If FanHouse's polling of 23 of the 124 voters of the award is any indication, it's looking likely that Evans will be the ROY winner. Only first- and second-place votes were counted in this small sample size, with Evans leading in first-place votes with 16 followed by Golden State's Stephen Curry (six) and Milwaukee's Brandon Jennings (one). Curry led in second-place votes with 12, while Evans had seven and Jennings had four. Voters still have time to change their minds, of course, as the deadline for votes to be submitted to the league isn't until Thursday.

the thing that worried me about the article...
…was that tyreke was being considered for team usa for the summer. would rather he worked on his game during the summer, improving his outside shot, rather than playing and competing, where he will probably rely on the skills he already has.
Disagree
Tyreke can learn things by playing and practicing with the best players in the world. It’s been mentioned quite often that LeBron really made a jump after seeing how hard Kobe practiced for Team USA. While I’m not implying anything regarding Tyreke’s practice habits, it won’t hurt him to see how hard other stars are pushing themselves.

Totally agree
Isn’t playing with your peers, who happen to be among the best basketball players in the world, good for your game? I would think so.

No, I would not be described as “super-upbeat and positive.”
The upside has been stated, and eloquently. It could be very good for Evans’ game. The downside is he shows up to camp still worn out (at the very least).
I would suggest that spending the off-season with Mr. Thorpe might have upside as well.

But if he is
I’m totally buying an Evans USA jersey.

It may be less likely
But a player could blow out his knee in a team practice, or practicing with Thorpe. Injuries are always a risk.

So
If Tyreke played for Team USA and came back next season with no jump shot and any other skills he could have acquired during the off season but didn’t because he was busy playing for Team USA (and relying on his current skill set because there’s no time to work on new ones) you’d be happy? Wow, color me flabbergasted.

Did you read his first line?

Those things won't be skills development.
So he’ll learn from Kobe that he should practice hard (we talin’ ’bout practice?)?
Give me a budding jump shot and all the other skills the blueprint says he’ll be working on but won’t have time for if he’s playing for Team USA.

Team USA will not take the entire summer
There is time for both, representing his country and improving his game.

Are we under the impression
that Tyreke will not be allowed to work on his game while at Worlds, hanging out with the best that the game has to offer?

I didn't know there was a video game version

It will certainly impact the amount of time he has to work on his game
How much impact it will have is an interesting question. The impact on skills development will be negative that much is certain since it will take time away from that activity.

Interesting concept
But I would counter that shooting 150 jumpers and hanging out with the world’s best players > than shooting 250 jumpers with your family. I’m no basketball player, so I could be way off on this. But as a former baseball player, I would think that being around the best that the game has to offer would benefit me more than a few extra hacks in the cage. Then again, I am an idiot, so that has to be factored into the equation.

This is the plan for the summer
Which is precisely the plan. As has been the case since Evans was a toddler in Chester, Pa., his brothers will be pushing him to continue improving. They said he’ll train in Los Angeles this summer, with the main objective to improve his shooting and a number of other items on the to-do list as well.
Keith Veney will be his shooting coach, adding Evans to his client list that has included Dallas’ Caron Butler, Boston’s Paul Pierce and Detroit’s Ben Gordon, among others. Evans also will utilize a track coach to help with his conditioning and a boxing coach to push his physical ability and stamina to a new level. The plan calls for former NBA player B.J. Armstrong and professional trainer Rob McClanaghan to help with Evans’ cause as well.
I’m not sure where the motivation for the snide remark about shooting jumpers with your family comes from but if you think hanging around and shooting the shit with the best and brightest is a better all around activity than a focused, personalized program with professional trainers then hey, all the power to ya.

Snide remark?
His family is a vital piece of Team Tyreke, and this has been documented ad nauseum.
And why would you think that being invited to Worlds would entail nothing more than "shooting the shit?’
I was just asking a question, and you seemed to have taken it up a notch. I’ll leave this to you to finish up. Power right back at ya, bub.

And 1
While I don’t disagree that Evans would get value from playing for Team USA, I do question whether it would be the best use of his time.
