Around SBN: Win or Lose, Boston Celtics' New Big 3 Era A Success

Play of the Year: Tyreke FTW

All told, this was not a difficult decision.

Tyreke Evans grew his legend with this brilliant play against the Nuggets in early January, ending a five-game skid and knocking off Denver for the second time.

Other nominees included Tyreke's game-winner against Milwaukee, Donte Greene stuffing Kobe Bryant, Tyreke spinning Ron Artest into oblivion, and the Donte-to-J.T. inbounds alley-oop (I cannot find video of this! outrageous).

Any more nominees? Fill the comments with them.

(Programming note: check the FanPosts for an open thread for tonight's Wizards and Warriors games.)

The Tyreke strip of Gilbert was pretty outrageously awesome as well.

Especially live at the arena.

Also what game was the Donté-JT alley oop at halftime?

I thought it was at home v. Knicks, but apparently it wasn’t.

I know I might be overstepping my bounds here

but I was thinking that since I made that parody video, I might be allowed to use a spoon to eat with tonight? Just tonight, and I’ll give it right back as soon as I’m done eating.

For me

the Arenas steal, announced him. Because it came with two FTs, converted to seal the game. Clutch.

After that, I started collecting his YouTubes.

Tanking? I don't know what you're talking about, tanking. I'm just losing more efficiently.

by elfboy_ on Apr 14, 2010 4:33 PM PDT reply actions

agreed

the Arenas steal was Tyreke’s coming out party. Plus, it was a nationally televised sold out game where the audience got cheap beer. That was the play of the year for me.

Could some of you maybe use a condom once in a while?

by wallywagon11 on Apr 14, 2010 4:37 PM PDT up reply actions

My vote

is for Tyreke’s 20 foot jumper as the shot clock expired to seal the 35 point comeback win against the Bulls. How can you go against the big balls dance?

Another underrated moment:

Spencers bounce pass from the high post to Beno to get us into overtime for our first win of the year.

One of the interesting things about that was that Tyreke wasn't on the floor.

other plays that I liked:

Tyreke’s steal on Arenas, Donte’s dunk on the Knicks, Reke’s swatting JJ Barea, and Omri’s posterization of Gallo in the Rook-Soph game

My favorite

The best play, in my opinion, was when Tyreke went behind his back and faked the ever-loving piss out of Kobe and then split Pau Gasol and Andrew Bynum for the layup. That’s the play that sticks out the most in my mind.

Against Toronto

Another goody.

I do agree with Ziller (brown noser! suck up!!!) – the Denver shot was the one that really delivered him. The Arenas pick was nice because it was done on a national stage, the Milwaukee game was his first game winner. But after failing against the Cavs and Lakers two weeks earlier, the Denver shot was Tyreke showing that he was the man in front of the home crowd. Gave me chills.

You classless group of amateurs

You assholes already forgot him. Hew was at one point the hope of solving our long-standing guard problem. Yeah, he wasn’t great on defense, but he had a flair for offense. And now you spend a whole thread talking about highlights, and choose not to even mention him? That’s not only disrespectful, it’s down right shameful. HOW DARE YOU FORSAKE SERGIO RODRIGUEZ?!?!

We’re talking behind-the-back passes to Spencer Hawes and making white boys athletic. We’re talking multiple alley-oops to Donte Fuck-if-I-need-An-Apostrophe Greene. Oh, yeah, and I forgot to mention: the kid can run the fast break like its nothing.

The man was built for the higlight reel. Not a game – we’re not talking about winning a game, we’re talking highlights! And you guys don’t even mention Sergio.

Shame on you all.

Tyreke on Gooden

Tyreke’s spin move on Gooden was probably prettier than the one on Artest. But Ron is Ron…

Like most everything about that video, including Arco thunder

but Ill never understand the choice of Arco music played over PA. I know its 99 percent white crowd, but could they play whiter music? What’s wrong with something funky, some James Brown once in awhile—something the players actually might listen to in real life. Instead of some cheezeball alt. rock or classic FM crap.

The drafting of Tyreke and Omri (and Brockman) defined much of this season. GP made the play of the year.

Honorable mention...

It wasn’t a game winner or even during a regular season game but one of my favorite plays this year was Tyrekes and-1 up and under during the rookie-sophomore game after receiving the pass from Omri… Sick
