No doubt. But he’s a Dubs fan. Therefore, he can suck it!
This poster is kind of ironic though. He photoshopped Curry’s face over Eddy Murphy’s. In the movie, Eddy Murphy was trying to protect the Golden Child. Is Tyreke in some sort of danger we don’t know about that only Steph Curry can protect him from?

Steph Curry's defensive rating is 111
’Reke’s is 110. Steph’s defensive win shares for the season is 1.6, Tyreke’s is 2.1.
Neither are great defenders yet. Tyreke had a better year defensively than Curry.

Yeah -
The story is so packed full of non-truths regarding Evans’ game. I started a well-intentioned and even response for their thread over there, but decided that there was no point or use.
I find it interesting that we (as a whole) have respect for Curry’s game – most of us would even love to acquire him for anyone not named Tyreke Evans. But the simple fact is that Evans was better than Curry when you review the entire season – and this award is given for the entire season. Perhaps that is why they feel the need to denegrate Evans over there – so that they can knock him down to Curry’s size.
It’s too bad that they just can’t enjoy the fact that they got a steal in Curry, and that in many other years he would have been the clear-cut choice for rookie of the year.
And 1 – I have always had the utmost respect for Dubs fans. They have always been intelligent about the game of basketball and passionate about their team. Many of these Dubs fans still exist. But it seems that there is now a generation that knows not Thurmond, knows not Clifford Ray, knows not Franklin Mieuli, knows not Bill King. These are the posers that show up in threads here (or at ARCO) with no intention other than to inflame and perturb. And my bet is that these morons perturb true Warriors fans even more than they perturb us.

Plus
there have been a few articles on ROY where Tyreke won by a landslide (Fanhouse and ESPN) and we don’t feel the need to post them in their fanshots to rub it in. I doubt they would have given us the same courtesy.
It is a surprising breach of decorum
I can’t imagine Ben or Dave from Blazers Edge ever doing something like this. But I’m going to leave it up and let it speak for iteself.
SACTOWN ROYALTY - Try our thick creamy shakes!
I think it's because
this newer generation of Warriors fan came of age in a time when the smaller market franchise up the road was dominating them (1998-2004). Combined with their brief, but short lived glory (the “We Beleive” team that was quickly and summarily dismantled) I imagine that leaves some bitterness. Now, they finally have a hope, but once again he’s overshadowed by the supposedly inferior team’s superstar in the making.
That said, I’ve always pulled for the Warriors, in a sort of “they’re the Kings little brother, I hope they do reasonably well, just not against us” kind of way.
Well said section I would rec you, but I don't know how too!

and i really love the fact that they base the decision largely on opinions of analysts in the league and rumors about players not liking tyreke. I understand that being a factor (although really difficult to get conclusions out of it but whatever) but to say that is the most important stuff is pretty funny.

This article is a JOKE.
One of the reasons Tyreke shouldn’t win the Rookie of the Year: “1) He’s not a point guard.” Are you effing kidding me?? So if Blake Griffin had played a full season at PF, there’s no way he would even be in contention (if he had played well enough, that is) for RoY because he’s not a point guard?? What about LeBron? He shouldn’t have won because he doesn’t play the 1?
He then goes on to say, “Consider this: a few seasons ago, Stephen Jackson averaged 20.7 – 5.1 – 6.5 for the Warriors, and received no recognition at all from the NBA’s coaches or the national press.” Uhh… that was last year, his 9th season in the league. Tyreke’s putting those numbers up in his first. He’s 20 years old (haven’t you checked his ID?).
And according to him Tyreke is playing the game of basketball for all the wrong reasons but Steph is playing for the right reasons because Don Nelson said so. This article is so stupid. I like Steph’s game a lot and think he’ll have an amazing career in the NBA, but shit like this is making me become less of a fan.

Well, it is going to be sour grapes in Whine country when they announce the winner of the award. And as andysims (OMG has the world become so bizarre that I use the wit and wisom of sims as a reference?) has said repeatedly, who cares? The accolade is nice for the resumé but it is the impressive play of the kid and future it portends that makes Tyreke Evans and Steph Curry exciting players for our lucky teams.
by betweentheeyes on Apr 15, 2010 1:38 PM PDT up reply actions
They completely ignore a couple of major factors
First is any perusal of advanced statistical analysis. Second is November and December – they believe the season actually started January 1st.
When you mention the Kings improvement with Evans this season, and the Warriors decline, they cry about injuries, yet aren’t intellectually honest enough to admit that Curry’s numbers wouldn’t be anywhere near where they are without those injuries. Nor do they mention the benefit of Don Nelson running Loyola-Marymount North. Curry’s a decent defender, but he’s not really asked to play defense.
Run and gun, baby…run and gun. It’s a video game offense, with a college defense.
If it was “Rookie of 2010”, then you might have a dead heat. But add in November and December, it’s an easy choice.
I've got squirrels in my pants!
But commentators and coaches like him Otis!
And he plays the game the RIGHT WAY for the RIGHT reasons!
And everyone doubts whether Tyreke will lead his team into the playoffs many times, and earn many all-star selections. Stephen Curry is a frickine hall of famer! Steve Nash IQ = HALL OF FAMER while 20-5-5 is completey arbitrary!

If Curry wins ROY, but it doesn’t really matter because Steph is the better player anyway IMO. Kind of surprising that with a fully healthy team, and the anointed ROY, that Sactown ends up with virtually the same record as golden state. Reke is a good player, but to me it’s mind boggling that you guys end up with the same record as us, when Curry is playing with 2 D-leaguers in the starting lineup every night.

Reke's going to win the ROY
So you won’t be able to hear any crying. As to your other points, if total wins is really the criteria, shouldn’t Brandon Jennings get the nod?
How is the similar records between the teams “mind boggling”? You can use excuses for your record all you like, but you had Monta for 40 more games this season than last. If you want to play the injury card, this Kings team played without it’s best player for most of the first half of the season. We weren’t immune to the injury bug ourselves.
The Kings won 8 games more than last season. The Warriors were 3 games worse than last season. And yet, your tiny brain somehow sees that as a positive for Curry.
I've got squirrels in my pants!

Wow way to put words in my post
I never said total wins is why Reke shouldn’t win. I’m just making a point that with a fully healthy Sac team(healthier than the warriors) and Tyfreak, you guys should have been better. I mean we lost our WHOLE frontline(Beans,AR,Wright,Turiaf for a while) and had to sign 6 D-leaguers during the season. You guys have Thompson and Carl Landry, who was putting up crazy numbers, yet you guys still suck. I’m just saying Reke as pg, made you guys worst not better as he stat whored his way to 20-5-5. Oh and thanks for not mentioning that with the dubs being 3 games worse than last season, that we didn’t have our WHOLE FRONTLINE and Stephen Jackson was so pissed off at Nellie he had to be traded. Also Monta hated Steph in the beginning, so we sucked and Steph didn’t play PG full time during the first two months.
by Crashbranman on Apr 15, 2010 11:43 AM PDT up reply actions 1 recs
You said
It was “mind boggling” that we ended up with the same record as the Dubs, with the implication that the Kings should have had more wins, meaning Tyreke failed in that regard. How was I putting words in your mouth – you basically just said the same thing in your “explanation”?
You’ve made plenty of excuses why your team’s record stinks, yet amazingly none of that falls on Curry’s shoulders – yet you still somehow find a way to denigrate an 8 game improvement for the Kings, and place the blame on Tyreke (you said he “made you guys worst not better”).
Get off the lithium, dude. Or hell, get on the lithium.

Let’s list the Dubs players that would currently be heavy rotation guys for most playoff teams: Curry, Ellis, Maggette.
Let’s list the Kings players that would currently be heavy rotation guys for most playoff teams: Evans, Landry.
The notion that Curry has had less to work with than Evans is ludicrous. Additionally, I love the fact that when Evans proves out to have had the superior year statistically, Dubs fans are reduced to flinging unsubstantiated feces against the wall to see what will stick – doesn’t play defense, doesn’t make teammates better, etc.
This gets back to my main point. The case can be made that Evans had the better rookie year without having to resort to denegrating Curry. Unfortunately, you cannot make the case that Curry had the better rookie year without making (feeble) attempts to rip Evans’ game apart with crap that cannot be calculated or documented.
With all due respect, your argument is absolutely baseless and subjective. Curry had one of the great rookie seasons in recent history. Evans’ season was better. It’s really that simple.

Cmon…Maggette is a sixth man, if you think he’s so good you can have him. Curry makes his teammates better while having would have been a better statistical year than Evans if he played the same minutes in the first two months. Curry is already in the top 10 of many stats(2nd rookie pts, 1st assists, Ft%,3P%,etc..)in the LEAGUE not just rookies. BLah,BLAH,BLAH still can’t wait to hear you guys cry.

Maggette is a good player
who happens to be very overpaid, hence most teams won’t touch him. Put him on a reasonable deal and he looks very attractive.
Curry makes his teammates better while having would have been a better statistical year than Evans if he played the same minutes in the first two months.
Why didn’t he play as much in the first two months? Maybe because he wasn’t as good yet?

Let’s list the Dubs players that would currently be heavy rotation guys for most playoff teams: Curry, Ellis, Maggette.
So a sixth man is not a heavy rotation guy?
I have always thought of the Warriors as one of my favorite teams, love to watch Curry play, can totally understand the Warriors fan love of him, and can’t wait to see the guy play for many more years, but you suck.

Fully healthy team?
Both Martin and Garcia were gone for a major part of the season, two of our top guys (before Martin was traded). Plus for a stretch we lost Thompson for the first time in his career, another time we were missing Hawes, Brockman, and Tyreke all at the same time, do I need to go on or am I talking to a fucking wall? Sure we haven’t had the same injury issues as the Warriors, but to say a fully healthy team is way wrong.
AND… Another team by the name of the TrailBlazers had almost their entire team wiped out by injuries, but instead of bitching about it and using it as an excuse to hype their players, they made a great playoff push. You guys should take some lessons from them is class and respect.

People need to stop
with the Evans & Curry comparisons. It’s absolutely apples to oranges. Sure, they play the same position and are part of the same draft class, but that’s where the similarities end.
Evans is a physically imposing guard that bullies his opponents, gets to the cup at will, and thrives in pressure situations. He may not have a good jumper yet and can tend to get a one-track mind at times, but those are things he’ll figure out as he matures.
Curry is a wiry little guy who’s quick, crafty, and most of all a deadly shooter. He’s definitely on the small side and tends to be up and down, but again, these are things he’ll figure out as well.
Both will have long and productive careers with multiple All Star appearances and hopefully a few rings to boot. We should just put the debate to rest and be happy that Northern California as a whole will (hopefully) soon be relevant in the NBA again.

Ok let me take a stab at this
Tyreke doesn’t make his teammates better? Kings won 17 games last year with more veterans on the roster for more of the year. Only players really added this year were rookies or young guys.
Advanced stats are pace adjusted. I keep hearing Curry is a better passer, and he is a good one. Let’s take a look at these advanced stats
PER:
Tyreke 18.2
Stephen 16.3
TS%:
Tyreke .529
Stephen: .568
eFG%:
Tyreke: .473
Stephen .535
TRB%:
Tyreke: 8.1%
Stephen: 6.8%
AST%:
Tyreke: 26.1%
Stephen: 24.6%
STL%:
Tyreke: 2.1%
Stephen: 2.5%
TOV%:
Tyreke: 13.6%
Stephen: 16.5%
USG%:
Tyreke: 26.2%
Stephen: 21.8%
Offensive Win Shares:
Tyreke: 3.3
Stephen: 3.0
Defensive Win Shares:
Tyreke: 2.1
Stephen: 1.6
So what I’m seeing here is that while Curry is a much better shooter than Tyreke (hell, so are a lot of NBA guys), Tyreke finds his teammates more often, and turns the ball over less even though he’s handling the ball more. They’re also both great rebounders for the position they play.
Another argument I hear from Warriors fans is that Curry didn’t know his role at the beginning of the year. He has started 77 games and has ended up with 200+ minutes to Tyreke over this season. Since about 30-31 games were played before the New Year, I don’t know how you discount an entire half a year worth of statistics.

Dirty Di*k's and Shi% listen to this arithmetics
You can make stats say anything you want them to
Curry is 1st in rookie assists bottom line, while he did start in the beginning he defered to Monta, Maggz, and Jackson. He had no control of the offense besides being basically a spot up shooter. On top of that Monta and Jackson hated him. Tyreke was given control from day one.
by Crashbranman on Apr 15, 2010 4:01 PM PDT up reply actions
Lol
so the fact that when you take a look at pace adjusted assist rates and Curry is behind Evans doesn’t matter? For the record, Brandon Jennings has a better Assist rate than both Curry and Evans at 29.6% with a very good TOV% of only 13.0%. If I had to say who the best ballhandler of the group was I’d go with Jennings.
And Curry has Reke and Jennings beat in Assists by .1. With the many extra possessions Golden State plays at.

But once again Curry was basically not the pg in the first two months of the season. And also do you take away Nash leading the league in assists because of Phoenix style of play? No, he is still a great player.

The Warriors were 2nd in PPG to Phoenix
By 2 points. The Warriors were in 5th for APG (about .9 behind Phoenix), behind Phoenix at 4th, Dallas at 3rd, Boston at 2nd, and Utah at 1st.
So what I’m seeing here is that you guys are relatively similar to points per game, assists per game, yet Nash creates an assist more than twice as much as Curry, or even Reke for that matter. Assist Rate means what percentage of the time a player has the ball they create an assist for a teammate. I should have explained this earlier, failing to recognize that the only advanced statistic most of you guys have some sort of understanding on is TS%.

Stoudemire was assisted on 61.5% of his FGs this year.
Tolliver was assisted on 84.5% of his FGs this year.
Hunter was assisted on 69.7% of his FGs this year.
George was assisted on 76.4% of his FGs this year.

But what Curry had to go thru in the beginning and his ability to put up crazy numbers still. He has been without a doubt the better player, I mean his stats are better across the board except for the 3 more points Tyreke has for 20-5-5 obviously. ALL IM TRYING TO SAY IS, that Tyreke should not be ROY in a runa way victory. It should be Co-ROY’s.

What I think of the article is...
…that it’s a Golden State fan trying to justify why Curry should get the award. No more or no less. Regardless of the reasons that voters voted (some will vote out of fear for not voting for ROTY and being on the right side of the vote and looking stupid), or they simply don’t follow the game as much as you would expect and look at the core stats. Others who do watch the games, have the votes, and all that, may simply believe that Tyreke is the best player in the draft.
I don’t blame any fanbase for bias towards their players, but that’s exactly what this article was. Particularly biased in the HOPES of convincing a few voters. Most of the voters, I suspect, have never even heard of GSoM or StR.

There was nothing in that article that hasn’t been rehashed ad nauseum, and it had the requisite Tyreke bashing included along with the Curry praise. In other words, it’s not really anything we haven’t seen before.

It say something to me that Nellie of all people kept him out. Nellie don’t have a problem with attitude. He’s dealt with worse than AR.
Having said that, I like JT and think he’s a 3rd rotation big but no more or no less. I’m not of the belief he will make this David West leap in stardom. (I"m not the biggest West fan either.) The Kings have been healthy mostly
The Dubs have got a ton of big injuries to their key players. The Kings have been bad this year. Reke has not carried them. Stephen has carried the load and guided the team to victories. Brandon Jennings is more deserving of the award and so is Steph. Steph has come in, left his ego at the door, never complained, lead the team, and accepted his role. He plays a more efficient game and has dominated the last 4-5 months.

The NBA has to have their teams in the playoffs.
It wouldn’t be the NBA playoffs without the NBA rigging it.

How many games did Monta play last year vs. this year?
How many games did Kevin Martin and Francisco Garcia miss this year?

No way man
I’m voting for DeJuan Blair for rookie of the year, with Steph Curry second. Because I thought Blair’s performance last night was more impressive than Curry’s. And since the award apparently isn’t meant to cover the entire season, I think Blair deserves it the most.

I think Curry should get it
he is much better than Griffin. Griffin’s teammates think he is selfish for not playing this season. He didn’t play so he could go for RoY next season. And he doesn’t play defense.

I know he played this season, but I was wondering if maybe the number of games he couldn’t play due to his injury are enough to still consider him as one.

I thought Kriedler made a good point earlier today
Reke will get a lot of first place votes but when he’s not, he most likely WILL take the second place votes. Whenever a voter puts Curry first, Reke will probably be second, leaving Jennings in third place. Same if Jennings gets the first place vote; Reke ges the second one, and Curry the third.
The discussion is always is always Tyreke or Curry/Jennings, never Curry vs. Reke/Jennings or Jennings vs. Reke/Curry. This will help Reke in the overall scoring

I think it is ironic that the Warriors themselves may be the biggest impediment to Steph Curry winning RoY
If Brandon Jennings had not played the Warriors in November he would not have scored 55 points. With Jennings scoring the highest total for any rookie, or any player in the League this season he brought the spotlight (rightly) on himself. (one could also add Collison’s triple double – the first rookie to get one – against… the Warriors. This contributed to his getting a RotM award that neither Curry or Evans would otherwise have won). Believe.
With that spotlight he will probably take votes away from Curry and lower his RoY vote point total.
Irony.
by betweentheeyes on Apr 15, 2010 10:32 PM PDT reply actions
I've read that Collison is getting some 3rd place votes over Jennings too.

All of this stuff with GSoM about ROY has really made me realize exactly why I love StR so much.
Intelligent discussion in which we can voice our opinions about why Tyreke deserves to be ROY without ripping apart Curry’s game (or anyone else’s, for that matter) and without making outright lies (ie, GSoM’s assertion that Tyreke is a “very poor defender”). I think I’ll stick to StR from now on.
