Questions for Geoff Petrie
Jason Jones, via his twitter account, asked his followers if they had any questions for Geoff Petrie. I asked him if we could start a discussion over here and get him to ask Geoff some of the better questions and he said yes. So this is your place to do that. Ask away.
UPDATE: Jason Jones has conducted the interview and has used some of our questions. We'll get you guys a link as soon as we can. Great work all around guys and a big thanks to Jason.

What type of player are they most in need of? and if any of them will be able to be adressed through the draft?
Question
Have the Maloofs given you the go-ahead to use the team’s available cap space in the offseason to procure players?

G-Man is only ok on TV great on Radio
Grant who I think is ok on TV , sucked on Radio
There are some guys smarter than me, some guys better looking, I take comfort in the fact that there is no guy that is both.
Funny
I thought Grant did well on radio. Always have.

I love the G-Man Elron.
But I think G-Man and Jerry would be a terrific combo (also might keep Jerry around longer). Grant is a douche nizzle but he does well on radio. His loudmouth bullshit is a perfect fit for the radio side.

G-Man can paint the picture of the play in your head. You need that from your radio guy. He’s the voice of the Kings, ever since the dark days on KFBK.
Did I say G Man sucked? Once where did I say such?
I said Napear is better as a radio guy than a TV guy. I don’t even care if he’s better than G Man at it.
Having said that, wouldn’t you rather listen to TV with G Man than Peaches?

There was an article earlier about teams who employ statisticians
According to the article, having the statisticians on the staff have helped many teams increase their wins by a great margin. Are there any plans of doing this in Sacto?
Also, are there any plans of utilizing the D-League? I know that this has been debated here, but I am curious how the FO feels about it.

Multi-part question:
A) Which free agents do you want to talk to in the offseason?
B) Who do you want that you feel may legitimately be interested in coming to Sacramento?
C) If a player you covet wants a max deal, is there anyone aside from Evans who you wouldn’t be willing to package in a sign & trade?

Question for Akyis
I do not get your odds on the lottery picks…the Kings have 156 balls in the lottery out of 1000…so I get the odds of 15.6%…but say the nest get drawn…the Kings now have 156 out of 750 balls left slightly over 20%….if the number 14 team gets #1 then the odds are slightly better than 15.6%….how did you factor in the declinging ball count since over half the balls are in the first 3 teams? 70% in the first 5?
There are some guys smarter than me, some guys better looking, I take comfort in the fact that there is no guy that is both.
Because all 1000 balls are in the globe each time
And if a team thats already won is picked already, the balls are put back in. Last year for example, the Clippers won the lottery twice.
Grandmaster of the "Never let AnotherStupidSN forget what a Sham-Wow is" Order and Originator of the "Brock Ness Monster".
All balls may be back in in the Nets win
but effectively there are 250 inactive…making the odds 156/750.
What you are telling me is this is not a calculation that went 25% of the time 250 balls are deleted , 20 % 200, 1 % 1 ball eliminated and then figure out the statistical average of how many balls would be eliminated, and then continue that on down the line
There are some guys smarter than me, some guys better looking, I take comfort in the fact that there is no guy that is both.
You can't say that their inactive though
Because the way it works is that there are 14 balls in the globe. Each team is given a certain amount of 4 # combinations. Since there are 1001 combinations, 1 of those combinations is discarded. But you still have to draw each ball each time. It’s the combinations that are discarded, not the ball.

I will accept the numbers on the chart
but my spidey math sense is tingling, and its usually right….as an example in a 6 ball lottering going 3 2 1 worst team to best…and I have the 1 ball……I would have a 1 in 6 chance to finish first…..on the 2nd pick if I lost i would have a 60% chance of having a 33.3% chance for #2 (first team won ) and a 40% chance of having a 25% chance…my overall odds for chances for getting #2 would be 30%. In my mind these calculations don’t account for that…but I concede defeat as I am too lazy to figure it out.

During the drawing
Our odds go up, but these are the chances taking into account all the possibilities if you know what I mean.

Yeah. You also have to figure in when we win 1st place we are not in the mix for 2nd place.
So, yes the Nets balls would be effectively out if they won. That’s taken into consideration, but you also have to factor in the 15.6% of the time that when they draw for #2, that we already won #1. So, we have a 15% chance at #1, a 30% chance at top 2… and so on.

I am a fan of Kfan
I did not account for my own team being picked…which would change the odds of my above example to a 25% chance of getting pick 2…

If #3 wins the First pick, the odds of winning the 2nd pick are 0%.
ElRon and Aykis are both right. With all 14 balls in play the odds of our combination being picked stay the same for all three picks. So, Aykis is correct on the odds of being drawn for all three picks.
But ElRon is correct that the odds of WINNING change based on who wins each of the prior positions. Once #1 is decided, that teams combinations are out of play so they can’t win #2, and our odds improve. They improve slightly if the #14 team wins and they improve greatly if #1 wins. Roughly, if NJ win #1 our odds of WINNING go up to 20% for winning the #2 pick. And, if Minny wins #2, our odds of WINNING #3 go up to 28%.

It's a 15% chance that we end up #2, out of all the possibilities.
Not a 15% chance that we get #2 after #1 is drawn.

If Minny gets #1 200 combinations are eliminated increasing the Nyets chance at #2.
Here’s a for instance: If the Team with the worst record in the League sees the second worst team get #1 (but this team is tied for 2nd worst but loses the coin flip and has one less ball, so take 177 combinations out), then the chance for #2 increases. If the 6th worst team then gets the #2 pick then 75 combinations are eliminated thus leaving the team with the worst rcord a chance at the #3 spot with a (1000 – 252 (177+75)) or 250 combinations out of 748, or roughly 33% possibility: therefore they will end up with Tyreke Evans.
It is a lottery. You rolls the dice and you takes your chances. It is math and probablities. In other words – it has everything to do with luck. I would rather have 156 chances rather than the 121 chances the Kings had yesterday morning. So what new talisman should I use this year?

Name an ingredient in ice?
Hint: “cold” isn’t the correct answer.
Ephedrine, usually from cold medications like Sudafed, is the main ingredient in "ice," or methamphetamine.

based on what you already have seen on that player?
In other words, is there a more or less standard set of skills you want to see a player display, (taking his position into account)? Or are there very particular details you’re trying to assess about that player, (both strengths and weaknesses)?
How important is it that a prospect’s abilities fit in with and compliment the Kings current system?

I have to think about this and write it up in a piece. I have thoughts, but they need to elaborated on and pontificated completely.

Don’t know if he has the answer, but he seems the more relevant person to ask than Geoff Petrie.

Is trading down in the 1st round out of the question, especially with the sixth pick, the worst possible outcome with the lottery?
