Haze's Offseason

Draft - One of these six will wear Kings purple next season.

1st Pick? John Wall - I hope either he or Reke develops a good jump-shot if we get the 1st pick.

2nd Pick? Evan Turner - Same analysis as Wall, except Reke stays at the point.

3rd/4th Pick? Derrick Favors - My choice in the draft.  A do-it-all PF, makes Landry a great trade asset.

4th Pick? DeMarcus Cousins - A bigger & better rebounding Carl Landry

If we get the 5th or 6th pick and none of these guys fall to us, I say we trade back and take Hassan Whiteside or Xavier Henry.

Trades - (Im Still on the Shock & Hawes bandwagon.)

Andres Nocioni - Get rid of Noc's contract. Don't even worry about getting back value, unless someone is dumb enough to give us anything for him.  He wants out, and we don't need him.

Carl Landry - If we land either Favors, Cousins (Draft), David Lee, Chris Bosh, or Carlos Boozer (Free-Agency) I would like to see us move Landry in an attempt to get a starting 2-Guard. He's a great low-post scorer, but that's all he does. Houston knew this, and they figured why not get a 25pt scorer over a 16pt guy.  We should look for the same kind of deal

My Roster - Landry & 2nd round pick to Washington, for Nick Young & Javale McGee

PG - Reke - Beno

SG - Young - Cisco

SF - Greene - Casspi

PF - Favors - JT

C - Hawes - JT - McGee

I doubt it.

Phil Jackson will complain about Reke getting preferential treatment and how we get 20+ FTs in the 4th Q to win game 6s. And the refs will listen.

Tanking? I don't know what you're talking about, tanking. I'm just losing more efficiently.

2nd round pick depends on who we draft in the lotto personally

If we draft a big man in the lotto, I like Jordan Crawford or Quincy Pondexter if the unthinkable happens and he slips out of the lotto. If we draft a 1-3 in the lotto, I like Parakhouski or Varnado. Possibly Lawal as well.

Think Andrew Bogut............

It took him 5 years to finally come around. Hawes had his good moments this year, just have patience.

LOL

Take a look at Bogut’s rookie season. It blows away any of Spencer’s first three seasons.

Bogut was not a bad player from the outset, he just broke out this season. Spencer is not close to Bogut’s caliber.

I am a much bigger fan of Spence than you Otis

but you are right, Bogut has been decent to good his whole career, I think the rest of the country was just late in giving him credit.

Trade Landry for a starting 2 guard?

as soon as i read

this line in the post this was my exact thought. Didn’t we trade a starting 2 to get him?

“He’s a great low-post scorer, but that’s all he does.” If you remove the low-post, this sums up our previous starting 2 quite nicely.

draft a good big, but don't trade Landry

even if we draft a bigger more dominant 4, I disagree with trading Landry. he is solid and consistent. but beyond the numbers he brings a work ethic that is respected league-wide; from day one he has been vocal about being happy to be with the Kings. his personality and aditude is perfect fit with out roster and the type of team we want around in Sacramento. as fans we always cry about players not being loyal, well this is the same thing but in reverse.

by gaindeyouth on Apr 16, 2010 12:23 PM PDT reply actions

Amen.

Carl is a class act – even is he is best used as a 6th man, you keep him for that purpose. And until he can be used most effectively for us as a 6th man, you keep him as a starter.

What's up with the hate on Landry?

The Kings finally have a low post player who can FINISH. I’d rather trade JT or Spence before we trade him.

by Josh L on Apr 16, 2010 3:43 PM PDT reply actions

The Kings are a rebuilding team, Landry will not get much better, JT and Hawes have huge upside

how about trade cisco or nocioni with Landry for Luc Mbah a Moute, Charlie Bell, and Dan Gadzurich. Luc Mbah a Moute is one of the top defenders in the league, the Kings need a guy like him. Then there would be enough minutes for Favors or Cousins should the Kings draft either. I will say Luc Mbah a Moute and Derrick Favors would be sexy.

I keep thinking about Doug Christie at the 2

Who would be a Doug Christie-like player the Kings could get in a trade? Maybe they could get (Christie) + mid/late-1st for Landry? I don’t know…

I would think that Landry for a Doug Christie straight-up would be slightly lopsided, but obviously we would have to look at the actual player to gauge value. I just don’t know who would fit the bill.

by MJ5 on Apr 17, 2010 8:53 PM PDT reply actions

Reason behind trade.

I never saw low-post scoring as our biggest need. I would rather have gotten a low-post defender rather than scorer. Also, I don’t see Landry getting any better in any other areas of his game beside scoring. Only being 6-8, 6-9, he’s not athletic or long enough to become a great low-post defender. I figure we could trade Landry while he has such good trade value now, and replace him with one of the many 4’s in the draft. If we did this we could fill all of our needs.

Needs- SG (3-point shooter) PF/C (low-post scorer/defense)

Landry Trade-
Young/Reddick (3-point shooter) McGee/Gortat (low-post defender)
Draft-
Favors(low-post scorer/defender)

You might be right, but here's a pop quiz

Player A = 7 ppg, 4 rpg, 1 bpg. 22 years old, 2100 NBA minutes.
Player B = 6 ppg, 3 rpg, 1 bpg. 22 years old, 1063 NBA minutes.
Player C = 9 ppg, 6 rpg, 1 bpg. 20 years old, 1882 NBA minutes.

Which players “suck” and which players are still young, learning, and maintain potential?

(Player A is McGee, player B is Brandan Wright, player C is Anthony Randolph.)

why are you using his career stats and not this years stats

Randolph averages 19, 10, 2.5 blocks, 2 assists and a steal per 36. Also he will be even more of a beast next year, he is bigger and will be working with CB4 in the offseason. Wright is full of potential, but has been injury prone. He can also be a very good power forward in the future as well. He now weighs 220. So he is not as undersized and should be good next year.

"Who Wants some pudding pops?, delicious and nutritious!

by MJ5 on Apr 18, 2010 6:11 PM PDT reply actions

I think that you're talking about a relatively small sample size with each of these players

And that’s part of my point. On a per 36 minute basis, none of these guys have even logged a full season.

You may have some great insight that I lack (wouldn’t be the first time that this has happened, by the way). But I think it is very premature to be assigning a “he sucks” label to McGee. Just my opinion.

Which players would you rather have

A&B C&D
combined per 36
33 points on 50% fg, and 74% free throw 28 points on 48%fg, and 69& free throw
20 rebounds 19 rebounds
4 blocks 3 blocks
2 steals 2 steals
A&B are better in every category against steals which they tied in. They are probably even better realistically, but I rounded the stats. A&B are randolph and Wright. C& D are JT and Hawes.

by MJ5 on Apr 18, 2010 6:26 PM PDT reply actions

I wasn't arguing this

Simply that I think that McGee doesn’t suck.

But since you asked, I’ll take Thompson and Hawes over Randolph and Wright, because Wright is a non-factor until he can prove that he can stay healthy. If Wright could stay healthy, I would take Randolph and Wright. That’s a big if, though.

Playing under Nelly he has matured a lot

and I am hoping Bosh’s maturity will rub off on him. His big problem is shot selection and passing. His is a terrific rebounder and fantastic defender if he tries.

McGee has a cool name, but is so raw and relies so much on athleticism and little on actual talent

If Randolph and Wright stay healthy and are consistent they can be all stars.
