Kings Announce 'Rowdy Rookies' Program
As referenced in a recent FanShot, the Kings have unveiled a "Rowdy Rookies" program in which season ticket packages near the visiting team's bench will be heavily discounted next season. Good on the Kings for the program -- the full details in the form of a Kings press release are after the jump.
But I will caution fans to not get this twisted with what Milwaukee has done with its excellent Squad 6 program. Those tickets aren't near the visitors' bench, but they are free, and they are rotated among a set crew of fans, and they come with the stipulation you wear team colors and cheer your tail off.
This "Rowdy Rookies" program is more or less a discounted ticket plan. It's a great discount on first glance, and cheers to that! But it's still a purchased ticket plan.
Again, full release after the jump.
Kings Create Limited-Time "Rowdy Rookies" Season Pass to Draft New Fans to Join the Ride with the Team’s New Draft Picks for the Entire 2010-11 Season
"Rowdy Rookies" season pass offers seat locations in a newly-created branded section near the visiting bench, and is specially-priced between $45-$55 per seat per game depending on what pick the Kings get in the 2010 NBA Draft
SACRAMENTO, CALIF., May 12, 2010 – In honor of the upcoming 2010 NBA Draft Lottery, the Kings created a limited-time "Rowdy Rookies" season pass to draft new Kings fans to join the ride with the team’s new draft picks for the entire 2010-11 season.
The "Rowdy Rookies" season pass offers seat locations in a newly-created branded section near the visiting bench, and is specially-priced between $45-$55 per seat per game depending on what pick the Kings get in the 2010 NBA Draft. If the Kings get the #1 pick, the price is $45, $47 for #2, $49 for #3, $51 for #4, $53 for #5 or $55 for #6.
"At the Draft Lottery Party next week, we’ll find out what pick we have in the Draft, which is the first step toward adding our new rookie players to the team and building upon the bright future of this franchise," said Joe and Gavin Maloof, co-owners of the Sacramento Kings. "In the meantime, we thought it would be fun to have our new rookie season pass holders along for the ride so they can experience the excitement of the Draft Lottery with their fellow pass holders and find out how much savings they’ll receive on their pass."
There are only a limited number of seats available in this special section, so fans are encouraged to purchase their "Rowdy Rookies" season pass today. As an added bonus, every purchaser receives an entry into the Kings Prize Lottery at the "NBA’s GREATEST Draft Lottery Party" plus access to an exclusive VIP seating area at the event.
The "NBA’s GREATEST Draft Lottery Party," taking place Tuesday, May 18 in Midtown Sacramento (on 18th Street between L and Capitol), is free to the public and starts at 4 p.m. The live ESPN telecast of the NBA Draft Lottery begins at 4:30 p.m. The Lottery will be shown on a giant outdoor screen for all fans to see, and the party will include prize giveaways, the Sacramento Kings Dance Team, the Sacramento Kings Breakers, special VIP guests and special offers from Midtown-area vendors.
Fans should call 888-91-KINGS to place an initial payment or learn more about the 2010-11 "Rowdy Rookies" season pass and the "NBA’s GREATEST Draft Lottery Party." This exclusive offer ends on May 18, 2010.

yeah I am definitely trying to figure out how I can find the money...
I wonder what row/section they will be in?

If a few of you would be interested in splitting this
We could make it even more affordable. I don’t think I could do it by myself. I’ll call today and get more info.

I would love to get in on 4-5 games, if that would work.

More Info:
The Rowdy Rookies promo is for seats in Section 110, starting at Row T. The face value for a ticket in this area is $75.
I like that the tickets get more expensive as the draft pick falls.
Rocks are free, and slingshots easily stolen.
I still don't understand that reasoning
seems like a higher draft pick would be more likely to be an exciting player, and therefore the higher pick would = higher cost on the tickets.

Maybe they're banking on making more money from ticket sales
If we get a higher, more touted pick, so they can afford to have it be cheaper with the higher pick. Maybe John Wall causes a lot more people to buy seats than Al-Farouq Aminu (that would defnitely be the case I think)

My take as well
Higher pick gets more casual fans so they can afford to offer better discounts in other areas. They’re also rewarding those who sign up earlier; it’s a good discount anyways.

Yeah it is
I already know the spin the Kings will do if they get 5th or 6th too.

I couldn't figure it out at first either
but I think it’s just sort of a gimmick to link the promotion to the lottery, so you commit to buying the seats before we know what pick we get (or how much your seats cost) so you have another reason to be excited for the lottery and root for a higher pick. A Maloof quote from the article above:
“In the meantime, we thought it would be fun to have our new rookie season pass holders along for the ride so they can experience the excitement of the Draft Lottery with their fellow pass holders and find out how much savings they’ll receive on their pass.”
So you buy a “Rookie Season Pass” prior to the lottery and you get special treatment at the lottery party. The sliding-scale pricing isn’t based on any kind of supply/demand money decision, it’s just a marketing tool to try to get new fans to “invest” in the new rookie and the team in general at this point of the offseason. Seems a bit silly to me, but I suppose it’s creative and they should be given some credit for that at least.

Alright so I called my ticket rep
Here’s what the plan is now. The seats are available in Section 110, starting at Row T. You get a plan spanning all 41 regular season games, and 3 preseason games, so 44 in all. Ticket price is currently at $55 so it can only improve or stay the same, and will be determined by next Tuesday’s lottery. The total price for the package as of now for just 1 ticket per game is $2420. The best price it could be (assuming we get the #1 pick) is $1980, a fairly significant difference.
It still might be a little expensive for me (especially when you factor in the driving to and from ARCO) but I’ll think about it, especially if more people want to split a plan or something.

I'm all for mooching off of someone for their second ticket like I did with Ed for StR Night II
But I’d definitely be down to buy a ticket or two off of someone that gets these. I can’t really afford much right now but I do need to actually go to more than one game this year.

"The Kings will get a top 3 pick in the 2010 draft. Book it!"
if it is starting in row t it is NOT dramatically discounted. those tickets were $70 a game last year?
At USC we're not snobs, we're just better than you.
I'd be down for 2 tickets for about 8-10 games

They really should do ticket packages for this
Rather than limiting it to season ticket holders

"The Kings will get a top 3 pick in the 2010 draft. Book it!"
you might want to double-check but...
i’m assuming that comes with 20 games of free parking because that’s what the other sth are getting with their plans.
By the way
I got an email saying “only 100 seats are been made available for the offer”
"Children want what they want when they want it." ... Andy Sims
I really like this idea, but I wish it wasn't just for season passes
I can’t afford to go to games often, and it’s too far for me to drive for season passes anyway. Still, it’s a cool idea (although if they start in row T, they aren’t THAT close to the visitor’s bench…..) and it’ll probably be pretty successful. I’d love to go in on season tickets if, ya know, I had any money. Haha.
"That was the most offensive thing I have seen in 20 years of teaching and that includes an elementary school production of "Hair.""
I'm glad they're listening.
Looks like they really took our ideas and thought it through. I’m fine with the fact that they’re discounted tickets and not free. I understand it’s a business. I just think they’ll get a lot more people involved if they didn’t make them season-long commitments. Of course the option to purchase your seat for the whole season should be given up front though.
Nah
$10 Seats for the win. Maloofs always get $25 more on food and beer when I go.
