Who will Petrie see in the Euroleague Final Four ?
So, GP will be attending the Euroleague Final Four in Paris,France and he is going to check out some players...
But who in particular ?
The four teams that play at the tournament are : Regal Barcelona vs CSKA Moskow and Partizan Belgrade vs Olympiakos.
The winners of the semis will advance to the final...
Those teams have a lot of good players and I made a list of some players that could be on GP's notebook when he returns...
- Eiffel Tower : ( 1889 , 1.063ft , Pos: C, Drafted: - ) Paris, France is the location of the tournament and if you're looking for someone to fill up the middle then
look no further... Eiffel Tower is the answer , protecting the basket at all costs...
- Ricky Rubio:( 1990, 6'4'', Drafted: #5 2009 by the Wolves) A lot of people are saying that Rubio's numbers are bad and that he is not as good as everybody he is... 6.6 p,4.3asts,2.8 reb in 20 min is not impressive i agree but let's c another stat line....7.6 p, 1.6 asts,1.6 reb in 20min ... That's Jennings stat line from last year, when he played in Europe...u get my point ? The Wolves have his rights and he is under contract with Barcelona for another 3 yearswith no indication of an NBA buy out.
- Josh Childress(1983,6'8'',RFA): Childress has improved in every category this year- his second in Europe- as he adjusted to the European style of play(also his team-Olympiacos started playing an uptempo game this season , that allows him to show all of his skills). He has become a lock-down defender and enjoys the thrill of guarding the opponents best player.... He would probably head back to the NBA next year but he wont be cheap(rejected an MLE from the Hawks last summer so i guess he wants more...)
- Yiannis Bouroussis:(1983,6'11'', UFA): The Spurs wanted him this year, he decided to sign a 3-year/6.3mil deal with Olympiacos but he has a release clause for the NBA. He is fast for a big man, has very good shot and works very hard. Started basketball at 16 and he worked his way up to top player status. Wants to join the NBA but he has said that the Spurs will be his first option...Here's a clip with some of his highlights...
- Linas Kleiza:(1985,6'8'', RFA) : His contract has an NBA buyout and he would probably try to get a better deal then the one he is getting in Europe( 3mil p/y) otherwise he wont opt out. Kleiza has not changed in Europe. He is still a streaky shooter, tends to get mad if things don't go his way , although he is rebounding the ball at a higher rate in Europe then in the NBA ... Draftexpress has a name next to his best case scenario comparison : Andres Nocioni... nuff said!
- Patrick Beverley:(1988,6'1'', Drafted # 42 in 2009, rights Heat) Played his college ball at Arkansas and has been playing in Europe the last 2 years. He was signed by Olympiacos as the 3rd point guard and is mostly used in garbage time or games with minor teams... He is a spark of the bench though, plays very good defense and has a good wingspan. He can eventually become a back up point guard in the NBA , as i think that he has the tools... Not a good outside shooter but can finish at the rim with ease...
- Aleks Maric :(1984, 6'11'',UFA): He is in the Top 10 in almost every stats category in Europe this season. Played college ball at Nebraska but went undrafted. He is nonathletic and cannot block a shot but when you are averaging 14.4p and 7.6reb in 23 min you must be good, right?
- Sasha Kaun:(1985,6'11'',Drafted #56, rights Cavs)Signed a 3year/3.6mil deal with CSKA Moskow , right after he left Kansas(was in the championship team)2 years ago. This season he has emerged as the back up center and a great contributor to a top European team! He is a good rebounder and blocker, can defend very well the pick and roll and can score at a high percentage(72.0 TS% ). He is entering the final year of his contract and has a buy out for the NBA.

That Eiffel Tower looks awesome
I wonder if he’ll come over if the Kings draft him with the 33rd pick. I hope he drops that far IMO. I just wonder if teams have scouted him…..

IDK he is good friends with Tony Parker
and I heard he is pushing hard for the Spurs to draft him in the first round.
Yes but is he friends with the Beaubonic Plague? (Rodrigue Beaubois)

I'm very concerned about a lack of wingspan.

According to DraftExpress
Eiffel is not an unknown, since he has always played near to Notre Dame.
He has a strong frame, especially lower body, but is a bit rusty.
He moves very slow and barely leaves his feet. Although he draws a lot of attention and cannot be moved once he established position, he is very limited offensively. He uses his height and weight well, but lacks the athleticism and wingspan to parlay it into points.
Defensively, he has no lateral movement, but is very patient and will not be baited into jumping. At all.
He is a very quiet, even-keeled personality, although he loves to be at the center of attention. Because of that, his teammates have not prospered. For instance, the once promising Centre Pompidou still looks like a work in progress.
His age is putting off some teams, but one thing is sure: Eiffel does draw crowds.

Not so well
he did not actually break the rotation , is used as the 3rd point guard of the bench… still he is young and playing under coach Obradovic can only be good for his carreer …
His team is not in the final four….3.5 p , 1.7 ast in 14 min in the Euroleague…

fluctuation
For example, if they offered him 1 million in Euro’s he could just counter with 1.33 million in dollars. Same thing, just more security with the dollar. Believe it or not, Josh Childrish is actually paid in the dollars, the initial report about him being paid in Euros was incorrect.

I guess I have to add info for you (darn youngstas)
Mars is Mars Blackmon, a character from Lee’s first feature film She Gotta Have it, played by Spike Lee for the original Air Jordan ads. He kept on asking Jordan – Is it the Shoes? Is it the Shoes? Is it the Shoes? … Money, it’s gotta be the shoes." and “Do you know?, Do you know?, Do you know?”, always calling Jordan “Money”. His MJ’s) usual answer – “no Mars”. here is a youtube link

More added history on Spike Lee and his character Mars
This season, Spike Lee was featured on the NBC TV program, Who Do You Think You Are? He got the name for his character Mars from his grandmother, when he asked her help in coming up with a name. When he started tracing his ancestry, he was surprised to find that one of his ancestors, who had been a slave, had the name of Mars. Great program for those of you who haven’t seen it.
To be the best, you have to do your best. Otherwise, you are only second-rate.
interesting stuff
Names are always a wonder. Mars makes sense as a name, the Roman god of War (and sone of Juno and Jupiter aka Zeus and Hera and his Greek name is Ares). and the counter to the female name, Venus.
Nowadays names have lost much of their meaning and significance and don’t get me started on spelling.. Progress?

I think Childress is who we need in the backcourt with Tyreke.
Some experience, some athleticism and versatility, good defender, good size.
I think if the Hawks spend all their money to keep Johnson they will give up on bringing Childress back.
Also, I love the name Sasha Kaun. It reminds me of Chaka Khan.
“Sasha Kaun, Sasha Kaun” would be fun to play whenever he entered a game.

Other team will be after Chill as well.
The Bucks may go after him pretty hard for instance by offering him the full Mid Level.

He might be worth the full Mid level
but I don’t see the Kings offering much more. If many teams will go for him, it will drive up his price. He just looks like a guy who could give a contender a boost with smart plays and hard-nosed D.
Dunking Dutchman
weren't the Bucks going after him last offseason
Plus i dunno if i would want to come to Sac if i were him. If a few teams are offering around the same amount, i think he would prefer somewhere he can be sure he would get playing time and it seems that would be somewhere there are minutes available at the SF spot.

Although I sometimes float to the Cousins parade once in a while but when I do I cant get Kwame Brown out of my head, however that kid has some potential if his motor were better. I see Favors and think he could become a Dwight Howard Jr. which would make me incredibly happy should we land him

Milos Teodosic
is the Olympiacos’ PG and probably the best in Europe at the moment. He is better than Rubio right now, possibly in every way, even passing and he’s still 23 (only 3 years older than RR). Rubio is actually very mediocre this year and he hasn’t shown any significant improvement. In fact, judging by his numbers, he is worse than 2008-09. Anyway, this post is pointless unless you take a DeLorean and time travel back to June 2009. But if you like scouting anyway, take a couple of looks at him.

the question is the same for every Euro point guard
Can he defend?
by betweentheeyes on May 3, 2010 12:15 PM PDT up reply actions
He's an average defender.
He has a big frame (6’5) which is bigger than most NBA PGs and fairly quick for the height. He’s good enough to overlook the lack of defense at this point, given that generally the NBA is not known for its defense. He’s also a FA this summer. The only question is his salary ambitions, not the skill.

NBA PGs are especially not known for defense

Although there are some exceptional defenders at the position
Rondo, Paul, hopefully in the future Tyreke. I think a big part of it is the lack of size most PGs have and the speed of opposing PGs.

Here's part of what Sham wrote about Ricky Rubio's 09-10 season
and I think he’s taking a lot of misplaced flak here. All in all not a bad season for a 19 year old.
In the ACB this season, Rubio is averaging 6.4 points, 4.4 assists, 2.4 rebounds and 2.2 steals in only 19.0 minutes per game. He is shooting 45% from two point range, 42% from three point range and 77% from the line. If those numbers don’t overwhelm you, consider that ACB assists are far harder than NBA assists are. Indeed, 4.4 apg ties for fourth in the league alongside Stephane Dumas and Kristaps Valters; the three players (Omar Cook, 6.1apg), Marcelinho Huertas (5.2 apg) and Maximiliano Stanic (5.0 apg) average 24.7, 24.5 and 30.2 minutes per game respectively. Per 40 minutes, Roobs averages 9.3 assists, second only to Cook’s 9.7 and far ahead of the rest of the league. The Roobster’s steals per game rank second in the league only to Tariq Kirksay’s 2.3spg; his steals per 40 minutes averaged of 4.6 ranks waaaaaaaay ahead of Pablo Prigioni’s second placed 3.2 ap40. Rubio also has a PER of 23.3, tied for 6th in the league alongside teammate Juan Carlos Navarro and Greek shooter Costas Vassiliadis of Xacobeo Blusens. And even though he’s been around for 5 years now, he’s still only 19. 19 year olds in the ACB just shouldn’t do this. – Shamports.com Look under Where are they now. edition # 57

I was and I’m still a Rubio fan. Is he going to be succesful once he comes to the NBA? No one knows. I just hate when people pretend to know how he’ll do once he comes over. I’ll be rooting for the guy whether he turns into a star or a role player

You don't know that
They just didn’t like him more than Tyreke Evans. And they likely would’ve picked Jonny Flynn if Evans wasn’t available.

JR is only one guy though.
Not the entire Kings front office. I’m sure Rubio had his supporters as well. From what we heard pre-draft, it was basically Evans v. Flynn v. Rubio and then basically Evans v. Flynn.

do you think the Kings considered Harden?
They worked him out and seemed impressed. If Evans was taken by Memphis and Thabeet by OKC – I saw it as a possibility. I also think that the Kings truly liked Holiday but not at the #4. He is looking good btw.

I think they liked what they saw from Harden
But back with Martin on the roster, they were looking for a facilitator, as well as someone with star potential. Reke was the guy.
And Holiday is very nice. He did as good a job defending Reke 1 on 1 as anyone this year, 2nd only to Shane Battier I think.
