Kings trade the #5 & #33 pick in the draft to the Grizzlies for Hasheem Thabeet, the #12 & #25 pick.
I believe Thabeet was taken way too high in the 2009 draft but I still believe he will still be a very good defensive center in this league. Maybe even great. He did not look to be like a skinny kid when the Kings played the Grizzlies. The guy is huge & with playing time could be fully developed by the end of next season. Just in time for us to take the playoff leap in the 2011/2012 season. I think Thabeet has more potential to fill our defensive hole up front than Ekpe Udoh, Hassan Whiteside, or Cole Aldrich.
Then we can draft Xavier Henry with the #12 pick. A great defensive 2 gaurd & a deadly 3 point shooter to play alongside Tyreke Evans.
The Grizzlies don't need Thabeet with the emergence of Marc Gasol. They will need a great small forward when Rudy Gay bolts for another team. This draft is not deep with great wing players/small forwards. It just so happens the 2 best not named Evan Turner are Al-Farouq Aminu & Wesley Johnson. Both will most likely be picked at or near the #5 pick.
Swapping the 25th & 33rd picks are just sweeteners. Trading up from #12 to #5 should take a sweetener. Maybe Memphis will consider Thabeet enough of a sweetener but it can't hurt to try.
