Kings Hosting Draft Lottery Party May 18
The Kings just announced a big NBA draft lottery party in Midtown on May 18. No baggy pants allowed. Full release below the fold.
Kings to Throw "NBA’s GREATEST Draft Lottery Party" May 18 in Midtown Sacramento
Fans can join the celebration at a festive block party on 18th Street between L and Capitol as the team learns what pick it will have in the 2010 NBA Draft
SACRAMENTO, CALIF., May 6, 2010 – The Sacramento Kings are inviting all fans to join them for the "NBA’s GREATEST Draft Lottery Party" on Tuesday, May 18, in Midtown Sacramento on 18th Street between L and Capitol.
"We’d love to have all Kings fans from throughout Sacramento join us for this exciting event to learn what pick we’ll have in this year’s Draft," said Kings co-owner Gavin Maloof. "Our Lottery pick last year led to Tyreke winning NBA Rookie of the Year, and we’ll have another high pick this year. The future of this team has never looked brighter."
The block party-style event is free to the public and starts at 4 p.m. The live ESPN telecast of the NBA Draft Lottery begins at 4:30 p.m. The Lottery will be shown on a giant outdoor screen for all fans to see, and the party will include prize giveaways, the Sacramento Kings Dance Team, the Sacramento Kings Breakers, special VIP guests and special offers from Midtown-area vendors.
Out of the 14 teams in the Lottery, the Kings have the third-best odds of receiving the number one pick in the Draft. Last year, the Kings received the fourth pick in the Draft and selected Tyreke Evans, who went on to win the NBA Rookie of the Year award and finished the season as only the fourth player in NBA history to average at least 20 points, five rebounds and five assists per game in a rookie season, joining Oscar Robertson, Michael Jordan and LeBron James.

I just read Tyreke tied in voting for 39th best player in the league!
Ok technically only 38 players got votes for All-Nba, but the good news is JT and Spence also tied for 39th.
BTW reading the top 15 players in the league shows there are 5 superstars at most, and most of the rest of the stars aren’t all that starry.
There are some guys smarter than me, some guys better looking, I take comfort in the fact that there is no guy that is both.
but see, with that logic
Evans tied with Eddy Curry.

excuuuuuuuuse me for not celebrating 3rd worst in the league
i dont know about you guys, but i have no problem celebrating ROY, or a playoff birth even if it means a first round elimination, but celebrating a high draft pick? that just seems a little lame to me, especially if we get a pick between 4-6, it’ll just make us look even more lame

seriously...
the team is trying to involve the community and you think that is a bad thing? Especially after we spent all week giving suggestions about events like this, and other ways the Maloofs can strengthen the Kings culture in the community, despite the struggles the team has had. Celebrating the future of the team and working to grow the fanbase is exciting, and I can’t wait for this event.

Hey you guys need to stop being so butt hurt
the possibility of the NBA fucking us over and giving us a pick between 4-6 is quite high, and i just think setting up the greatest block party of all time to celebrate the chance to getting a top pick is a bit pre-mature
I would much rather us keep the draft lottery low key, and make the draft day a block party, where all the fans can meet up in downtown get shit housed as we participate in the draft
but apparently im being a negative nancy and nobody is going to understand my train of thought

This team needs more talent
and the best way to get talent is through the draft. As mentioned by Vfettke, both the Blazers and Sonics build through the draft and the better the draft pick, the bigger the pool of players Petrie can choose from. Adding the right piece might help lead us into the playoffs in the years to come. We are not only celebrating a high draft pick, but the hope that comes with it.
"For five decades (and counting), these fans have been blessed with West, Baylor, Wilt, Kareem, Magic, Shaq and Kobe. Seven of the 15 best players ever. At some point, the gravy train will end. The Lakers will bottom out like the Knicks did last decade, submarined by bad moves, poor signings and unlucky drafts. Their fans will flee in droves. Jack will pass away. The buzz will be gone. That's how the NBA works -- in a 30-team league, you can't always get lucky, not even if you're a big-market team with deep pockets. I don't know if that day is three years off or 30, but it's coming." Bill Simmons

by The Guy on the Couch on May 6, 2010 10:03 PM PDT up reply actions
This is where you're looking at it wrong
It’s not celebrating an accomplishment, major or otherwise.
It’s a gathering to support the team, encourage excitement for the upcoming draft and the next season. It’s a group of people getting together to have fun and hope for a positive result in the lottery, and share the excitement/disappointment together. It’s also the Maloofs giving back to the community.
If it gets the locals a bit more excited and leads to more ticket sales next season, and increases support for the new arena, how is this a bad thing?

I didn’t go, but it sounds like it was pretty depressing. The thing is though, we had the worst record in the league and I think a lot of fans were expecting (foolishly) the #1 pick. There is a method to doing this on the lottery: We don’t have a clue of who the Kings are going to pick, and depending on where the Kings end up it could be loads of fun.

Listen to yourself, Guy
If people want to get together to have fun, what is your problem with that? If you don’t feel like joining in, then don’t. Don’t be a spoil-sport for others. The people here are just trying to say that they want to support their team and have fun doing it. That can include going to a block party to celebrate with other like-minded fans. That should be what being a fan is all about. Celebrations don’t have to be big things. You can celebrate the small things in life. When a basketball player makes a basket he may “celebrate” his small accomplishment with a simple hand gesture. Life can be a bitch, learn to appreciate the small stuff.
Peace.
To be the best, you have to do your best. Otherwise, you are only second-rate.
Who cares what you think?
I don’t need some troll to tell me when and what to get together for as a fan.
If you disagree, then you can sit at home and be the guy on the couch, and we’ll be having beers at a block party.

I’ll be the one in the purple speedo with a beer in each hand.

To be the best, you have to do your best. Otherwise, you are only second-rate.
Won't that be kind of embarrasing if we both wear the same purple speedo?

Draft Lottery Drinking Game Rules
- Any time Tyreke smiles uncomfortably into the camera, you drink.
- Any time any of the “team representatives” holds up one finger to the camera, you drink.
- If the Kings get the #6 pick, you finish your drink, say “In Petrie we trust”, finish another drink, “In Petrie we trust”, and continue until you’ve had six. And then you cry.

even though it’s straight in the middle of my finals. Seems like it will be fun. Hopefully a lot of people show up. Even if we get screwed it will still be a good time none the less.

but look at it this way, getting a bad pick while out partying is way less depressing than getting a bad pick sitting at home playing with yourself; and getting a good pick is WAY better while out partying with others, than just sitting at home, well, you know…

Yeah...I was wounded deeply that Wednesday night.
I thought all along that it would be a top three of Siobhan, Mamasox, and Lee.
Now, I’m pulling for Lee to win it, Crystal and Big Mike to round out the top three. I want Lee to win because I think he’s good, but also because I think the second-place contestants have more creative control over their albums (not bound by the Idol contract). I think Crystal is the artist I would like to see be able to exercise more creativity. Nothing against Lee.
BTW, I got a pic with Michelle Delamor at Moon (Playboy Club at the Palms) in Vegas. She was really cool and extremely approachable. I asked her if there was any new news to report and she said she is working on some things right now. She seemed interested in talking more, but I was super drunk and just walked away to make out with some chick of lesser quality.
I am dumb.

Anyone remember how long the 'lottery show' ?
I remember last year they kept having commercials and didn’t really get to it until later. I’d like to know to plan around work and make sure I make it to the viewing party.
