I'll make a bold prediction

If the Kings do use the #5 on anyone on this list other than Derrick Favors, DeMarcus Cousins or Wesley Johnson – there will be a meltdown in the draft thread unlike any we’ve ever seen (and that’s saying something).

I always think, this is the time. Something good is going to happen. And then things happen like, two teams below us jump above us in the lottery. We should always be optimistic. It just seems like initially were in for a let down. That being said, we dropped three spots the previous year and ended up with the ROY.

And if Petrie picks him then I’m golden. He’s not the player I would pick, but again, I’m not picking (thank heavens for that).

Ultimately, and after my meltdown last year, I’m satisfied with whomever the Kings pick this season. I would prefer Favors or Monroe, but will be happy with Cousins, Whiteside, Johnson and many other prospects.

The Kings may pick

any of these guys, but not with the #5 pick. If Cousins is available at #5, the Kings either draft him or trade the pick to someone who does want him. Whether that’s trading down or trading for a player, I can’t see Petrie wasting the value of the pick by not getting value when there are going to be teams willing to pull the trigger on Cousins. If the Kings make a good trade and pick one of these listed players in the teens somewhere, the meltdown migh be more of a low simmer.

Did anyone catch Jerry Reynolds interview yesterday?

He said the Kings would take the BPA @ 5. Didn’t say the best “big”. Basically saying they’re not drafting strictly for “need”. IMO if Cousins is there @ 5 he is the BPA. Bit he also said if not then they would trade the pick for someone better. Which is what thought was very interesting. I don’t know who’s available but I have to believe GP talks to other GM’s and may have an Idea on who may be available that’s might be worth the 5th pick. I know Kevin Love has been mentioned but I don’t think he’s worth the 5th.

by StevenG on Jun 15, 2010 10:29 AM PDT via mobile reply actions

They have always maintained that they would take BPA.

I’m not so sure GP talks with other GMs unless he is talking about a trade. After all, he does want to tell other GMs what he is thinking.

That's what I meant by "talking".

Seeing who might be available in a trade for the 5th. Or maybe he hasn’t. And that’s why Jerry put it out there. So other teams would know that the Kings are open to trading the pick in the right deal.

I'd rather have Kevin Love

Than Demarcus Cousins, but I don’t see how that happens unless Minny wants to have both the 4 and the 5 so Kahn can screw up two low lottery picks two years in a row.

Love is a known commodity and heady player, while Cousins possibly has more potential but is also a potential head case. And if we get an extra high lottery pick in that turns into someone like Babbitt or Henry, so much the better.

"I know we certainly gave up a lot to get him, but we do have other players on the perimeter who we can plug in. We haven’t had anybody who we feel is a go-to guy in the post. So we gave up a lot to get a lot, and we’re real excited about adding Carl." - Paul Westphal

by NewEraKings on Jun 15, 2010 12:38 PM PDT up reply actions

Although when you think about it

If Minny ends up with the 4 and 5 and gets any two of the top five guys most prominently mentioned, that could end up being a pretty nice haul.

In fact, it might be nice if Petrie is able to pick up another of those top 5 picks, particularly if he can do so without taking on a shit contract. Or maybe he takes on Dalembert and uses the picks on wings like Turner and Johnson. So we end up with a potential lineup of Tyreke, Turner, Johnson, Landry and Dalembert. Not a title team, but heading in the right direction and better than what we are stuck with now.

"I know we certainly gave up a lot to get him, but we do have other players on the perimeter who we can plug in. We haven’t had anybody who we feel is a go-to guy in the post. So we gave up a lot to get a lot, and we’re real excited about adding Carl." - Paul Westphal

stay at 5 and ....

they’ll end up with either Turner or Johnson if Cousins & Favors go 2-3 (which is possible), and the Kings do NOT need both Turner & Johnson … one of ’em, sure

but if GP trades out of 5 it’s gonna be to drop down, and probably only if both Cousins & Favors are gone @ 5

You wouldn't be surprised

if we picked Gordon Hayward or Eric Bledsoe…..with the 5th over all pick? Wow I would shit myself!!! If you think there is any way chance in hell we pick up on of the most unathletic SG in most recent drafts. ANd why in the hell would we pick up another PG who can come off the bench and give us a spark….then idk what we would do with Beno….

As to the draft and our picks...

I must not fear. Fear is the mind-killer. Fear is the little-death that brings total obliteration.

I will face my fear. I will permit it to pass over me and through me. And when it has gone past I will turn the inner eye to see its path. Where the fear has gone there will be nothing.

Only I will remain.

Ah… There now I am ready.

I don't know what the hell to think now

If the rumors are to be believed, we are looking at either Derrick Favors or DeMarcus Cousins available at the #5 pick.

Has there been any inkling from the Nets on whether they are dealing the #3 and trying to make the big splash in free agency? If Petrie feels that one of either Cousins or Favors is the guy, would he make a deal to move the #5 pick (and take on a contract) in order to get the #3 and be ensured of getting the player he wants?

it is not any kind of normal horrific team

because of the new exciting owner, historic imminent move of the franchise to Brooklyn, and the fact they actually do have some good young pieces on the team. If they can free up another $5m or so, they might look mighty good

Screw you Knicks! LBJ to the Kings!!!

Yeah

They stink right now, but their rebuild could happen pretty quickly.

nah, take the BPA

and then start wheeling & dealing if you end up with Johnson and 5 players on Kings who are best suited to play the 3 … LOL

there could be lots of player movement come July given CBA issues, FA, etc.

So, then

Either you’re saying that the only truly surprising thing would be if Wall or Turner dropped to 5, or that the Valium is working.
