My take on Hawes
So I figured I do a take on our players here is my take on Spencer Hawes. Certainly we know Hawes can pass the ball well for a big man and thats a good thing. While Hawes at times had some big games the most consistant thing about his game is well its inconsistant. I remember Hawes having a big game in LA a couple weeks latter he's benched than he goes back to having a big game followed by getting hurt and shutting it down. I'm not ready to write him off yet he only played one yr in College and is still young if he could ever learn to consistantly put up 15-10 type numbers he'd be a great fit for us moving forward. Its going to be interesting to see how he plays this yr. We all know he's in a contract yr if he wants to stay with us long term he's going to have to step up his play this season and prove that he can stay healthy and be more consistant.

This is a pretty rough read Anthony.
I don’t want to mean but you are going to get torn up with this. You are missing a word in the first sentence and you need about 20 commas. I would go back through this in Word with not just the spell check but also grammar turned on so you can fix some of issues.
Truth is, on talent alone, and nothing else, I’d rank DMC 1st.

If you read my comments you would understand that I did read his post.
And instead of ripping it apart for lack of substance, which is also a major concern, I chose to point out ways for Anthony J Peters to make his post consumable for the rest of us. If you choose to write here, you are putting your work up for ridicule, like it or not. If you are going to make a fan post, it should follow basic writing standards which includes things like commas and sentences that are not obviously missing words. This post was not proofed by the author or he would notice these issues.
You are picking a fight with the wrong guy Mr. Know it all. If I hadn’t posted what I did, there would have been a handful of people ready to do it and not just on the grammar. Again, if I was being a dick, I would point out all the issues in your response. I would prefer to point out the issue of editing for Anthony and hope that he would edit this post, which wold take all of 5 minutes and use Word to help with both grammar and spelling issues.
Truth is, on talent alone, and nothing else, I’d rank DMC 1st.

You are special, gansta. You are the living, breathing epitome of why the internet was invented, so that democracy may reign, and that even people too dumb to vote can still somehow express feelings about things that they are incapable of fully understanding.
We absolutely love you around here, because even though we have the Maloofs, your presence is a comforting reminder that things could be one hell of a lot worse.

I kinda side with Peters.........
I like Hawes as a player, and feel that the only thing slowing him down is consistency. And not all of it was his fault. Our whole team went in a diff direction last season, and with a new coach, came changes. I know I wasn’t the only one to notice how short the leash was on Hawes. And whether you want to admit it or not, messing with a players minutes can affect their play from night 2 night, and that’s what we saw last season. After the All-Star break, and everybody got settled with their roles, we started to see a more consistent player out of Hawes.
What if we brought in an established veteran big who can play 20-25 min a night. That way Hawes(only 22yrs old) can learn behind someone and still get minutes on the court. Somebody like Shaq, Brendan Haywood, or Jermaine O’neal. Then we could use the 5th pick to Draft or trade down, and pick up a partner for Reke in the back-court.
Kings get- OJ Mayo, 25th pick
Grizz get- 5th pick, (Maybe Noc)
Reke/Beno
Mayo/Garcia
Greene/Casspi
JT/Landry
(Shaq-Haywood-JO)/Hawes
KINGS WILL BE 10-11 CHAMPIONS
Why Would Memphis do this?
I could only imagine the ‘oneliners’ from Jerry in regards to Mayo
Statistics are like a girl in a bikini. They show a lot, but not everything.
Aminu
They may want a replacement for Rudy Gay if he leaves, and they have Ronnie Brewer to replace Mayo.
KINGS WILL BE 10-11 CHAMPIONS
????
Could Rudy Gay play the 2 like McGrady, & if so, maybe we could just sign him.
Reke
Gay
Greene
JT
Cousins
KINGS WILL BE 10-11 CHAMPIONS
that would make the kings a playoff team
its possible, but i heard he may want a max contract and fuck that

The problem with signing Gay...
which I am personally all for, is that he is a restricted free agent which means that if the Grizzly make a qualifying offer of $4,422,784 then they retain the right to match any offer for his services. Why is this important? Memphis is not going to let Gay walk away if all he is offered is 5 years and 50 million dollars. They may not want to go to 5/60 or 5/70, but then you start competing with other people who have loads of money. It is a dangerous game to try to sign a RFA. While your money is tied up in an offer, other FA are going off the market. The only way to really sign one of these guys away, is to over pay greatly so you insure that the other team will not match because basically, you are placing all your eggs in a pretty shaky basket.
Again, I would take a risk with Gay if the Kings can sure up the front line @ #5 and the back court @ #33. Gay is better and will be better than any small forward the Kings currently have and he’s only 23. He’s going to cost but if you can add something like Cousins, Gay and Jordan Crawford to an already young and talented roster, you should be able to improve pretty quickly.
Truth is, on talent alone, and nothing else, I’d rank DMC 1st.
PookeyGuru- June 1, 2010.
Only if Gay plays the 2.....
I wouldn’t pay him the money if he can’t. Either Greene or Casspi will fill the 3 role next season. We need a back-court mate for Reke, & a big-man capable of playing in the post, both on offense and defense.
KINGS WILL BE 10-11 CHAMPIONS
We also need a three
Not saying Greene-Casspi can’t become that, but right now you are correct, they fill the role. And that’s not a complement. That job is open and is currently a Kings weakness.
"I know we certainly gave up a lot to get him, but we do have other players on the perimeter who we can plug in. We haven’t had anybody who we feel is a go-to guy in the post. So we gave up a lot to get a lot, and we’re real excited about adding Carl." - Paul Westphal
I think you missed my point.
Rudy Gay is substantially better than either Omri Casspi or Donté Greene- that I can back up with statistics. He is better today and he will be better over the next 5 years. That isn’t a knock on either player, it is statement or an opinion. If the Kings were to sign a player like Gay, it would spell the end of the Greene experiment. Omri Casspi is too valuable as a player and marketing tool to go anywhere. I think both Gay and Casspi can steal minutes at the two but neither player would be a natural fit there. The reason you add Gay is because you want to be a better team. Omri can develop but realistically, he doesn’t have the natural athletic ability to hang with a player like Gay and I am a huge Omri fan.
Jason Thompson isn’t Dwight Howard.
Beno isn’t Darren Williams
Spencer isn’t Vlade Divac
Omri Casspi is not Rudy Gay
and so on…..
Is Gay the perfect free agent signing? Probably not but he could be a great with Evans and a player like Cousins.
Truth is, on talent alone, and nothing else, I’d rank DMC 1st.
PookeyGuru- June 1, 2010.
I can't back up this opinion but I am going with my gut
Rudy Gay strikes me as a guy who coasts on excessive talent and athletecism who plays for his stats and the paycheck it produces. Rasheed Wallace without the fire.

I just think he has a lot more game than he is shown. Is that bad?
Nope
I like Spence too.
Grandmaster of the "Never let AnotherStupidSN forget what a Sham-Wow is" Order and Originator of the "Brock Ness Monster".
Haha
I think different peoeple have different expectations for different players. Spencer just happens to be, IMO, a polarizing figure because of his position and the way it’s viewed by many. He hasn’t helped his case either a couple incidents.
But there’s still some people who believe he can still help the Kings down the road.
"Children want what they want when they want it." ... Andy Sims
I like Spencer too, but feel he MUST show significant growth this year for me to have any more faith in him.
Screw you Knicks! LBJ to the Kings!!!
No doubt, Shizzo
But I’d change the word from “growth” to “consistency”
"Children want what they want when they want it." ... Andy Sims
Some nights
When I watched them play, he looked like the best big man on the floor, even against some teams.
We forget, he played his best ball against some of the best big men, remember the games against the Lakers. He crushed their twin towers all year long.
So I do believe he could be a very good Center for us, but edm7 said it “Consistency” is the thing we need from Spence.
well I mean strength and back-to-the-basket skills too
I guess i’m one of those fans wanting to shove a square peg into a round hole. I just see that half hook, soft touch around the basket, good IQ and think about how great he could really be.
Screw you Knicks! LBJ to the Kings!!!
I think we all hope he turns into Gasol
But I think he will eventually turn into Gasol-lite. Good enough for a role player.
Umm... I thought we were officially referring to Voison as the Chick Replacing Amick at the Paper? or CRAP, for short.

Hawes
I agree Hawes has been jerked around, but if he was playing better consistently, that wouldn’t happen. Make-or-break season for Spencer. I hear the Tea Party calling.
"I know we certainly gave up a lot to get him, but we do have other players on the perimeter who we can plug in. We haven’t had anybody who we feel is a go-to guy in the post. So we gave up a lot to get a lot, and we’re real excited about adding Carl." - Paul Westphal
I agree
I think the only reason we don’t draft a big is because the Kings would really want to see Hawes excel and become a better player than the past this year.
I think if they do pass on a big, and he does not perform, the draft will give us a big next year, or in FA. But I also think this may be a make or break.
I also like the comment earlier this post about Hawes at the 4 and DMC at Center, that would be a tough front court to match up with.
I think the only way we pass on a big is if Turner somehow drops to 5.
So, we’re getting a big with our first pick, methinks.
Rocks are free, and slingshots easily stolen.
Yeah
I don’t think we pick Johnson even if he falls to us.
Grandmaster of the "Never let AnotherStupidSN forget what a Sham-Wow is" Order and Originator of the "Brock Ness Monster".

"I know we certainly gave up a lot to get him, but we do have other players on the perimeter who we can plug in. We haven’t had anybody who we feel is a go-to guy in the post. So we gave up a lot to get a lot, and we’re real excited about adding Carl." - Paul Westphal
the same post, edited with better grammer!
So I wrote a fanpost yesterday that was almost universally bashed, and so I decided, to get myself back in good grace with the readers, I would do my fair share of community service. Here is Anthony J Peters’ thoughts, posted in my words. Enjoy:
***DISCLAIMER: The following post does not necessarily reflect the views of gregsactly*
So I figured I would write my opinion of each of our players. To start the series, here is my take on Spencer Hawes: Certainly we know Hawes can pass the ball well for a big man and that’s a good thing. While Hawes has occasionally put up big numbers, the most consistent part of his game is his inconsistency. The season was a roller coaster for Hawes: He went from having a monster game in LA to being benched in a matter of weeks. He returned to have a few more big games, but by the end of the season, he had shut down. Because of his youth, I still think he could have a solid future on this team. I see him eventually putting up about 15 and 10, and, as we know this is a contract year for him, these numbers had better come sooner than later. If he is able to stay healthy and develop some consistency, I think we will have a much better idea of who Spencer Hawes is by the end of the year.
