Traded a 21 year old Center with low cost

For a 29 year old under achiever with 23+ mil left on his contract. Stupid ass Petrie. Stick to drafting, not trading.

Negative

One year left on Dalembert’s contract, according to Sham Sports.

yeah i misread

But still. Should have told Noci to suck it up, and let him walk back to Europe. I hate this trade.

by mike murray on Jun 17, 2010 11:05 AM PDT up reply actions

Why?

I don’t think Hawes was really in this team’s future.

"Matt Cain's better at this than I've ever been at anything in my life. He's better at this than you'll ever be, at anything. Matt Cain has a gift. He has a gift, and when you acknowledge that, then maybe we will have something to talk about."

by otis29 on Jun 17, 2010 11:05 AM PDT up reply actions

How do we know.

He didn’t even get to play a season over the age of 21. When u draft a 19 year old center, you don’t trade him before he gets to the age of 22.

by mike murray on Jun 17, 2010 11:07 AM PDT up reply actions

seems like

having a big with shooting range would work long term with a driving PG, but that’s just a thought.

That's secondary in my opinion

I think Dalembert is a significant upgrade over Hawes.

I'm unsure of how laughable that is

How many years was it before Marcus Camby was a good center?

by TheFifthMookie on Jun 17, 2010 11:09 AM PDT up reply actions

Look at the stats

Camby was pretty good from the get-go (17.8 PER his first season, for starters).

"Matt Cain's better at this than I've ever been at anything in my life. He's better at this than you'll ever be, at anything. Matt Cain has a gift. He has a gift, and when you acknowledge that, then maybe we will have something to talk about."

Personally, I'm not interested in paying Hawes and wasting court minutes on him until he becomes Marcus Camby

Why not?

Spencer’s had plenty of opportunity – and if recent history is any indication, Petrie’s better off getting rid of a guy too early rather than hang onto him too long.

Too early?

He was an expiring contract as well. So we save like 2 million from this deal. Woo hoo. Sorry for not being to excited about dumping a young player with high potential for a 29 year old who had averages of 8.1/9.6/1.8 last season.

by mike murray on Jun 17, 2010 11:11 AM PDT up reply actions

Time will tell

But Spencer was in the doghouse most of last season, and the coach isn’t going anywhere. I’d rather watch Dalembert play defense all year than Spencer.

for spence, that was the real question for me

how much would the team have paid him when the extension came up? much more than what he was getting from his initial deal seemed like too much.

by mike murray on Jun 17, 2010 11:20 AM PDT up reply actions

they would have another year to evaluate him

knees or attitude could be great this year. But Petrie is in the buisness of pleasing Noci and saving 2 mil, instead of giving a 22 year old center a shot.

by mike murray on Jun 17, 2010 11:17 AM PDT up reply actions

"was in the doghouse"

name a 21 year old who wasn’t. As I remember, so was Dalembert in Philly. Has nothing to do with trade value.

by mike murray on Jun 17, 2010 11:15 AM PDT up reply actions

Well if you go the trade value route

I think the Kings win clearly on this thing. The only way they don’t is if Spencer becomes a stud in the league.

I’m happy Petrie is taking that chance, myself. And I’m happy for Spencer, if he finds himself in a situation that helps his career.

We lose our cap space this year, save only 2 mil, and have a bottom 5 center in the league in Dalembert.

Centers better than Dalembert

Obviously better centers (no order):
Bynum
Brooke Lopez
Perkins
David Lee
Bargnani
Noah
Bogut
Chandler
Horford
Dwight Howard
Yao
Marc Gasol
Okafor
Nene
Al Jefferson
Odem
Camby
Kaman
Biedrins

Arguable but I would take over SD:
Robin Lopez
Shaq
Big Z
Hibbert
Haywood
Jermain O’Neil
Dampier
Okur
B. Miller
HAWES
Thabeet

PF that could play center better than Dalembert:
P. Gasol
Scola
Boozer
Bosh
Zach Randolph
Kenyon Martin
Aldrich
Griffin
Amare

and if Dalembert is just the one year, it’d still make sense to draft a big.

Dalembert

Just turned 29, has one year left on his contract at just under $13 million.

"Matt Cain's better at this than I've ever been at anything in my life. He's better at this than you'll ever be, at anything. Matt Cain has a gift. He has a gift, and when you acknowledge that, then maybe we will have something to talk about."

Dalembert is an expiring. 12 Mil. Sixers save around 3 mil before luxury tax.

I like this deal personally.

By the way if I was Noc, I’d be pissed. Philly isn’t what comes to mind when I think “contender”. But I guess he’s another team’s problem now. But he should know that no winning team wants him.

I doubt he cares who pays his buy out. And, if he has already set a price, maybe Philly agreed to the deal because they already know he’s going to be cheaper than his contract salary.

I like this.

I think Hawes was kind of redundant next to Landry and Thompson, who did what he did only better and with the addition of other things. I don’t think he was ever that great of a passer, he just happened to be white and on the Kings so everyone sort of assumed so.

I definitely like the idea of a Landry-Dalembert pairing. And the team is getting tougher again. I like that.

by sdfd on Jun 17, 2010 11:09 AM PDT reply actions

1st Kmart.......

Now this. I’d rather trade Landry than Hawes. Especially if we are really going for low-post scoring in the draft.

Article up on ESPN.

Chad Ford

He writes:
“But the real ramifications may come during the draft. The Sixers have been deciding between Evan Turner and Derrick Favors with the No. 2 pick. While Sixers general manager Ed Stefanski is a Turner fan, head coach Doug Collins is high on Favors. With Dalembert gone and Nocioni in, it could push them in the direction of Favors.”

This doesn’t really affect the Kings in anyway, because I think Jersey will just take who’s left out of the two.

by sdfd on Jun 17, 2010 11:12 AM PDT reply actions

I'm more than a little floored by this trade

simply because despite my groans of Spence’s performance the last season, I think his ceiling will be more than Dalembert’s.

So… I hope we get more than just dumping Chapu & Hawesome/Hawful.

Bold Prediction: Whoever we pick 5th this year will have a better NBA season than whoever was picked 5th last year.

by elfboy_ on Jun 17, 2010 11:16 AM PDT reply actions   1 recs

The thing is though, what is it going to take to get Hawes to reach his ceiling?

There is only so much “development resources” (money and court time) to go around, and with all the youngins on this team and more on the way, how long do you keep investing in Spencer? Honestly, I just don’t think that Spence was ever supposed to be this much of a project, even as young as he is. I think Petrie thought we’d at least see a lot more offensive consistency from Hawes at this point.

Wonder what this means for our draft intentions.

Does this open up opportunity to trade down and draft Monroe? Does losing a wing open it up for WeJo. Or does DMC still fall to 5?

Addition by subtraction?

Good deal. Lord was Hawes ever a stiff. I feel kind of bad for the guy, though. They’re gonna murder him in Philadelphia. If he ever plays.

by jeffeff on Jun 17, 2010 11:19 AM PDT reply actions

Thinking Positive......

1. Noc is gone
2. No more complaining about the low-post

That’s all I can think of, this fucking trade sucks. We traded Hawes for about 3 extra rebounds, and a 1/2 extra block. I’d rather they just bought Noc out of his contract. And say we draft Cousins or Favors, then Dalembert is going to be in the same situation as Noc.

Except that trading our only true Center for a different Center still leaves us with only one true Center

Adding Cousins or Favors would not create a frontcourt logjam.
