"We’re excited about the acquisition of Samuel Dalembert. He will certainly bring a defensive presence and increase our ability to defend around the basket with his rebounding, shot-blocking and athleticism. I think he’ll add a very different look to our team defensively and we’re really excited about having him. I also want to thank Spencer and Andres for their contributions here and wish them well with Philadelphia. It’s been an enjoyable time with both of them."

Hope this doesn't mean they have given up on the idea of acquiring Cousins.

very nice Memo, Now have the DRAFT OF YOUR LIFE
Statistics are like a girl in a bikini. They show a lot, but not everything.
Perhaps Dalembert
would help mentor Whiteside (on the defensive end) if we end up with him
"I have missed more than 9000 shots in my career. I have lost almost 300 games. On 26 occasions I have been entrusted to take the game winning shot...and missed. And I have failed over and over and over again in my life. And that is why... I succeed." Michael Jordan.
Dalembert never worked to develop great defensive skills and footwork
He’s just a athleticly natural defensive talent. Whiteside is pretty similar, so I’m not sure SD has anything to actually teach anyone.

The same could be said of Hawes
And I think most GMs would take Dalembert over Hawes based on the last couple years. This is not to say that Hawes can have a great career from here on out.
I think he is. Name 20 centers who are better or equal?

Wrong Analysis
I don’t think Mike Murray is wrong about most of the guys on his list, excepting the list of power forwards, because I don’t really find that relevant.
But it’s wrong question. It doesn’t matter if Dalembert is better than Howard or Bogut etc. What matters is that he’s better than Hawes, particularly in the areas of defense and rebounding.
Dalembert is better than Hawes.
Now let’s try to get better at shooting guard and small forward. Draft Johnson or Turner and sign Joe Johnson or Rudy Gay. Or make one of those moves and strengthen the other position next year.
Eventually we’ll come back around to the center position, but this is an upgrade.
"I know we certainly gave up a lot to get him, but we do have other players on the perimeter who we can plug in. We haven’t had anybody who we feel is a go-to guy in the post. So we gave up a lot to get a lot, and we’re real excited about adding Carl." - Paul Westphal
Eh
If Turner would be available it would be awsome. Besides that I gotta go with Cousins.

he's not a top 20 center
but he’s what the Kings lack … someone who can get boards and block shots. He’s the best defensive big man we have right now. He might be “all world” but he’s perfect for what the Kings were lacking.
if we get cousins or monroe
wont there be a logjam of bigs. draftpick/dal/mandry/JT/hisbrockness/Greene(the PF version). Just saying someone is gonna cry and sooner or later someone on here is gonna campaign for brock to get some minutes….on that note i hope they get cousins
It's all Jim Les' fault
if we draft a big
i dont see BrockNess resigning with the team, too much of a log jam.. he’d get minimal minutes.. barring an injury.
I agree, but, I think it is up to him.
They would not want to pay him much, but keep him for insurance, as you said, or injuries.
But if he gets a better offer, then we might have to find another minimum contract big man to fill out the bench and roster.

Felton will get a bigger payday, and Tony Allen will be overpaid based on his performance this post-season.
You could add Nate R. to this list, but again, he is going to cash in on all the salary cap money available. I think Petrie would love to have him on the Kings bench, but I don’t think he will be worth the pay day.
"The Kings have nothing to lose but their games."
my thinking...
there are a lot of UFA i would want on the kings, but I’m thinking they would cost too much money, so basically my list is the lower 2nd tier, 3rd tier players willing to play for cheap, and for the kings to fill roster spots.
Lakers won't let Fisher walk
So you can take him off of the list. I like Tony Allen. He can give the Kings more energy…positive energy.

He's out there
I’m trusting GP to go out and find him..
I don't know about that
All I know is that he’ll give 100% on every play. He knows how to defend, which is something the Kings need. His jumpshot needs work, but he can drive and get to the basket. I’d be happy to see him in a King’s uniform.

I'd skip this whole list
I don’t see anyone who is an improvement on what we already have, or if they are, it’s a miniscule different and open to debate. I’d rather go for the guys who are a clear upgrade. Yes, they cost real money, and I only see 3-4 who I’d both want and who might also consider coming here:
- SG: Joe Johnson, Ray Allen.
- SF: Rudy Gay.
- C: Tyson Chandler, Brendan Haywood.
And getting Dalembert takes us out of the hunt for Chandler and Haywood for now. I don’t really think Ray Allen is the right fit at this point, either. That leaves Johnson and Gay as possible targets who would be upgrades over our incumbents.

Don't see Johnson or Allen coming here at this point their career...
They want to contend.
If they did come here, they’d want a max deal, which I wouldn’t want to give.

No doubt
Johnson will want more than $10 mil a year. I think he’s worth it. Not so with Allen or Gay, but Gay is worth $8-10 million.
They may want to contend, but they also want to get paid and they are not the premium tier guys the other teams with money will be fighting over like LeBron and DWade. A lineup with Tyreke, Joe Johnson, Wesley Johnson, Landry and Dalembert with possible backups like Beno, Cisco, JT, Donte, Casspi, Udoka and Brockman is not too shabby.

While I still back the trade and agree with the decision, i still believe Hawes will be a good player in this league and will find his niche eventually. That being said, here is my BOLD STATEMENT for Spencer Hawes.
Before Hawes retires, he will have at least 1 all-star apperance .
My reasoning behind this….if Brad Miller can make an all-star game, Spencer Hawes WILL make an all star game

I called this a few days ago!!!
because of this trade it’s a lock that we are going to draft Monroe! I would love to go after Korver, but no way Utah lets him go.
Reke, Udka, Greene, Laundry, Dalembert
Beno, Garcia, Casspi, Monroe, JT
Yes i’m calling that we are going to draft Monroe. How do i know? Because we just traded the white Monroe today. Monroe, Beno and JT will work great together, they can pass, hit a 15 foot jumper, and lets not forget how Garcia and Casspi will open up the lane with the deep ball.
if Cousins or Monroe
are both availabe at #5, which i think they both will.. i’d have to go with Cousins. I think the Kings are going to a differenty style of playing ball… gone are the days of the passes from the high post, and welcome to throwing it down low to bang…

this year it was Tyreke’s team.. next year.. “should” be his team, but he better earn it… that goes for all the other guys on the roster next year.. but again.. this is Tyreke’s team to lose.. just like it was Kevin Martin’s last year.
You guys traded Kevin Martin
Because the Kings want to build around Evans. I agree, he has to earn it, but that trade make Evans the man on the team.
Quitter's Proud United Member #11
In a way
Evans ran Martin out of town. But I am leery of this becoming a one-man team. All that 20-5-5 stuff at the end of last season was bush league. Now it’s about wins and getting better as a team.

What is Sammy’s contract like?
Life is every mammal's journey from very very wet to very very dry.
i think
its 12 million this year?? i may be wrong about that $$ amount, but it expires after this season.
I like that trade for the Kings
Dalembert is also a great character guy, as e.g. his actions around the Haiti earthquake have demonstrated. After seeing all that tragedy and pledging a significant amount of his own money as well as raising awareness among the media and other NBA players, he flew back via Miami not in a chartered plane, but in the economy class of a regular flight to Philly. Which was late. Then they drove him right into the arena 10 minutes before tipoff, where he entered the court to play against my Blazers. And not even badly, putting in a 10 points and 15 rebounds performance completely tired.
Good trade...
Sammy gives us defense and rebounding, and no matter what happens in the draft either Cousins, Favors, or Johnson will be there for us at 5. Can’t go wrong with any of those picks.
Except when the Kings Take Monroe
or Hayward, Gross
Why do I think I am gonna be “not excited” on draft day.
Statistics are like a girl in a bikini. They show a lot, but not everything.

im scared things are gonna be obscure on draft day and a lot of “in petrie we trust”’s are gonna be thrown around….until said draft pick is traded 4 years later

oof, Spencer did suck
But hey, he got us one year of Sam Dalembert and Bird rights to resign him.
Life is every mammal's journey from very very wet to very very dry.
To be honest...
I’m a little worried myself…..please be Cousins or Favors.
I think this trade
works out for us well right now. Gets us the defensive presence we’ve been lacking, and gets rid of someone who didn’t want to be here.
As far as losing Spencer, i don’t think it hurts the Kings next year. But I do think he’ll turn into a good NBA player. Not an all-star, but he’ll be good.
As far as the draft goes, I STILL would like to see Petrie pull the trigger on Cousins if they stay at #5 … you can never have enough big men. I fully expect him to trade down (no reason why, just a gut feeling), but if they stay, I’d want Cousins still.

Yes, but what is the move within the move

Scenario #1 (Philly takes Turner):
1. Wall
2. Turner
3. Favors
4. Johnson
5. Cousins
Scenario #2: (Philly takes Cousins)
1. Wall
2. Cousins
3. Turner
4. Favors
5. Monroe
Me too.

Turner > Johnson > Monroe?
Sending JT to Minny with the 5 for Love works for me as well. Maybe it’s too much, but I think Love > JT. Besides Dalembert, though, it may make us too small. Maybe we trade them JT and filler for the 4. That would help their frontline situation and get us another pick to turn into Cousins, Turner or Favors.
"I know we certainly gave up a lot to get him, but we do have other players on the perimeter who we can plug in. We haven’t had anybody who we feel is a go-to guy in the post. So we gave up a lot to get a lot, and we’re real excited about adding Carl." - Paul Westphal
Since I think Love > JT
it’s not as lopsided as it looks. Maybe we get a sweetener to make it more even (their No. 1 the following season).

Maybe they throw in Nathan Jawai :)

Oh, Jawai!?!
Well NOW I’m totally onboard.

Love was a No. 5 draft pick in the same draft as JT
Love is two years younger and beats JT in career scoring average (only by 0.5 points, though), rebounds (by 2 a game), assists (barely, which is surprising), free throw percentage (80 to 70), 3 point percentage (30 to 6), win shares, offensive ranking, defensive ranking, fewer fouls, etc. Turnovers and field goal percentage (JT 48-46) are pretty much a wash.
Love is better, but not clearcut better, but I think he can/will be.
I think Love is also locked up longer at fairly cheap salaries.

Uh Love is actually locked up on a more expensive rookie scale deal.

Yes, but more "expensive" is like $6 million tops and he's inked for 4 years, correct?

Yep, two more years at about $1.5 million more a year, not a lot in the overall scheme of things

I see it this way too
Of course, anything can change, but that’s I agree with those two scenarios
"Children want what they want when they want it." ... Andy Sims
I agree though Johnson at #5 would not be out of the question
And of course we take Favors if he is there, but have to agree that is not likely..

Or Senario #2 leads to Cisco/#5(Johnson) for Prince/#7(Monroe)

Hell and Naw, please.
I like Johnson better than Monroe and Cisco better than an aging Prince.

Right.
But, I’m just saying “Hell” and “naw.”
Argentina put the hurt on you guys today. Not a knock on your squad, rather a testament of how good Argentina is. They could def win it all.

I see it as 2 scenarios as well
But Scenario 1 being Philly takes Turner (which I think will be the case) and Scenario 2 Philly takes Favors. They just lost their only defensive presence. Hawes and Favors up front actually sounds pretty nice. Cousins isn’t known for his defense.

I just can't imagine them taking a PF when they have Brand and Speights
Speights is really much more of a PF than a C, and Cousins at least gives them two good centers.
Favors can play Center.
Might end up being there long term too.
Grandmaster of the "Never let AnotherStupidSN forget what a Sham-Wow is" Order and Originator of the "Brock Ness Monster".
Maybe when he gets bigger
But for now he’s really much more of a PF. I don’t think it’s out of the realm of possibility by any means, I just think a C fits that roster a lot better than a PF. But if they feel that Favors is the best big they may just draft him and figure it out later.
Certainly, Cousins would have a greater immediate impact at Center
But, if there trying to rebuild, they might not be that concerned about the immediate future, and think that 3 years down the road Favors will be the better Center. And, for the time are willing to struggle at Center while he develops his low post game. As far as shoot blocking and rebounding goes, Favors may be closer to producing Dalemberts numbers than Cousins.

scenario 2 is more likely

I see Favors as more likely than Cousins to Philly
Pair Hawes up with a Defensive minded guy who can develop offensively.

Interesting...
My thoughts were that they get Cousins who starts and Hawes comes off the bench.
I didn't major in Common F-cking Sense, but ...
thats what we would do
Surely Philly would too

I just looked at their roster..
Not sure where they are at with Francisco Elston. He doesn’t seem to play much, but they have Speights and Jason Smith. So maybe they don’t got for Cousins… Speights may be starting and then Spencer could come off the bench. I am not that familiar with their bench though.
I didn't major in Common F-cking Sense, but ...
I guess the real question is "what does Doug Collins think?"
"If you don't have anything good to say, LIE" - Mom

So, it's definitely Favors, unless it's definitely Cousins, unless it's definitely Turner
My head hurts.
I wonder how Doug Collins fit into this decision?
You could be right Aykis, especially if Philly is more concerned about rebuilding the team instead of immediate impact. Are they willing to wait for Favors to develop into a Center?

Unless they trade down cause the guys they want are all gone...
I didn't major in Common F-cking Sense, but ...
our draft board should be......
Favors
Johnson
Cousins
Monroe
depending on who is there. Keep the 5th pick and draft whoever is left in this order. If we go big in the 1st round, we go small in the 2nd round (Crawford, Randle, Warren, Rautins) and if we land Johnson in the 1st round we take Jerome Jordan in the 2nd round. He will be there.
I prefer (excluding Wall and Turner)
DMC
Favors
Johnson
Whiteside.
Imagine Whitside next to Daly? The other team would never not get blocked.

and on offense, we would have...
A: a clogged lane
B: a lot of missed jump shots to rebound
"The Kings have nothing to lose but their games."
I just kinda meant that as a tandem that would only play a few minutes a game together.
Obviously, you want a front court that has one of Dal/Whiteside & one of Landry/JT.

The second round pick isn't likely to amount to much. Trade it.

Adios Noc
I may have missed it in the other posts as I read quickly, but looking on the surface it is hard to get rid of Hawes and his potentila for just Dally, but getting rid of Noc is really great!
"If my aunt had a set of nuts, she'd be my uncle"
Is Philly now our official big man dumping ground?
First Webber, now Hawes.
Effect on overall team rebounding.
If everything else remains equal – say we play Dalembert the same number of minutes as Hawes, same number of games, everybody performs the same as last season – then Dalembert would get about 50% more rebounds than Hawes. That alone would place us in a tie with San Antonio for 3rd best rebounding percentage (we were 15th last season).
354 consecutive game streak.
Dalembert isn’t much of an injury risk, at least.
Thanks for the info, Jinxy McJinxterson.

y would the kings draft Monroe when we just traded a player like him that didnt turn out to be what we wanted; well in these past 3 years
monroe sucks
after goin’ back n forth for weeks, the one thing I know today is that Monroe does nothing for me as Kings fan -
he seems too small to play C – I know he’s listed at 6’10", 250, but he looks really small on tape
nothing explosive & exemplary about his game … except maybe his passing?
guy disappears on tape – I can’t even find “highlights” of Monroe – it’s like he can barely dunk, no monster blocks, no nothin
Anybody else, and I mean ANYBODY, I’m okay … trade up, trade down, boycott the pick …
"boycott the pick"
