Who Should We Go For in Free Agency; Maybe a Middle Class Rudy Gay
The Kings have 15 mil this offseason and have more than enough money to do a little something. Now that the Tayshaun fiasco is gone, WE CAN FORGET ABOUT IT. So this means we have a chance to do something at small forward. We Don't have a void but this is room for improvement.
If we draft Demarcus Cousins(which we probably are) We should go for Travis Outlaw in free agency. he is unrestricted and would be and immediate upgrade at SF. he is an athletic freak, and can hit the three, (sound like anyone Cough*Wes Johnson*Cough). You know he’ll shoot about 37 percent from beyond the arc, that he’ll finish around the rim when the paint isn’t too crowded and that you can count on him to get a shot off with that one-dribble pullup jumper of his. He is Essentially a middle class Rudy Gay, and i personaly think Rudy Gay is out of the picture, sooooo lets get the next best thing. if we go for him we should offer him a 3 year/18 mil contract. and if that doesn't work out we could Still get Josh Howard(we were going to trade martin for him, so that would be a steal)
Also: if we dont get a combo guard with the 33rd pick (Willie Warren, Terrico White, Jordan Crawford, Dominique Jones and in that order) then we should go after Will Bynumite or Ray Felton.
The thing with will and ray, we would be paying Felton about 4-6 and bynum about 3 million a year, so that means we would still be under cap by a million or two, and now that we got Sammy next year he will leave and that would give us another 15 million. How does that sound.
PG Felton SG Tyreke SF Travis Outlaw PF Landry C Sammy
Bench: Beno, Casspi, Green, Thompson, Brockness monster, cisco, whoever else we get with the 33
Thats a Playoff Contender

We already have Omri and Donte
Why do we need another 3. If we sign another 3 it will just cut into Omri and Donte’s growth. F that. We need to sign another 2 guard (someone like Anthony Morrow, he would be a nice fit for us)

You dont think reke, green, outlaw, landry, sammy would be fun to watch? i understand that donte and casspi are our SF but if we want to win some games NOW, we should pick up outlaw

Travis Outlaw...
is not an upgrade over Donte or Omri. This signing would be stupid and we would not win any more games with Outlaw. We don’t need to sign any small forwards this offseason.
i just say we invest in a player that has alot of upside, and see if he'd flourish in our system, i think he would

Defensively the 2 was Donte's worse position
In limited minutes he was better at the 4, especially in blocks & rebounds. But, unless PW changes how the Kings play, our SF’s need to hit the 3pt shot and Donte is the best we have from that range.
So, I’d see we need another playmaking PG who can defend not another SF.

I'm a proponent of grabbing Courtney Lee in a salary dump for NJ
Maybe something like Courtney Lee, Humphries, and Yi for our 2nd round pick. Terrence Williams can almost seamlessly step into their SG position; also opens up the 2nd max contract slot they so covet. What do you guys think?
Screw you Knicks! LBJ to the Kings!!!
Courtney Lee is nice, but the Nets might want to hold on to him

No way
We can’t get those guys without a multi-year deal I would bet, Outlaw is a good young player who will get a better offer.
Omri and Donte need to play consistent minutes this year, we just can’t prolong or compromise them not developing.
If we go for anything in FA, we go for a guard who plays off the bench to handle the ball an can shoot, like Steve Blake who would probably start.
I think if we get a 3 it would be in the draft since we got a big in Sammy in the trade, but even then we could still pick a big.
But I would be more inclined to think that they would get Hayward or AFA in the draft. Assuming WJ has his guarantee from minny.
Still hope we draft Cousins.
Travis Outlaw Averages 10 points a game and three rebounds; he was traded for Camby for heavens sake
i dont think people are going to offer him more than 7 a year, and he isn’t restricted so we wont overpay him. i once heard that Rudy GAy would thrive in our system. So why don’t we get the next best thing

Doesn't dismiss the fact
And you said it yourself. He is young, athletic, and can shoot from the perimiter.
Do you think he wants to play for a 6 mill over 3 years or 8 mill over 4?
The answer is easy. He is not what we should be going or in FA anyways.
We where just going for a experienced SF in Tayshaun, so why cant we still
best of both worlds

Why?
Don’t you want too see Greene and Casspi play? They are more athletic and exciting than Outlaw, difference being he has played in the league and developed much like what Casspi and Greene are doing, and than he started showing he was a good player.
I personally think Casspi will be better than Greene, but I think they are both going to be better than Outlaw if they keep getting playing time.
I want nothing more than to see Donte and Casspi to play; i would give them the same minutes. its not like this is the only year to devolp
but if Tyreke is are POINT GUARD of the future then we need a solid player in that could be the guy right next to him, we could still play them but Donte and Casspi and very versatile, they can play multiple positions. I WANT TO TURN DONTE INTO OUTLAW, WHAT BETTER WAY THEN HAVING HIM ON OUR TEAM.
i just want to have a big lineup to create mix matches .
how does this sound
PG Evans SG Outlaw SF Green PF Landry C Thompson/Sammy
and have casspi be 6th man.

Are you kidding me
1) Caps is on the left of the keyboard.
2) if he is our PG, and we need someone to run with him, than why another 3 when we can use maybe, idk…a SG?
3) I am going to Youtube myself in my backyard. I am going to dunk a shit ton and shoot hecka 3’s and make a video and say “Hey, im a beast, draft me over Wall”
And all this on an 8 foot hoop. Highlights are nothing, they show what all athletes are able to do and that is make plays.
Try maybe Anthony Morrow, a cheap and talented you SG who can stroke it, and we can continue the debate of this. But we DO NOT need another wing, though we have interest in some in the draft, Outlaw is not the guy.
We can put him at SG, We Can put Greene at SG, we can put casspi at SG
we shouldn’t even be catagorizing basketball players. its just two letters. he would let us be able to put a huge lineup on the floor, and still be able to be quick, run the floor, and make shots.

Well for starters have you seen Greene try and drive to the hoop or in fact dribble the ball by another guard
He can’t do it. Also Casspi flat out doesn’t have the lateral quickness to keep up with guards. They are put into positions of weekness here. I would fear they would regress big time if they keep playing minutes at the 2 spot. Greene was okay at doing spot D there but that is about it. Heck the only reason Udoka got minutes late last year at the SG and SF was because of Casspi’s struggles on defense. Just a bad bad idea.

We have that
In Donte or Casspi. They both project too be at least average perimiter shooters.
Just drop Outlaw, he would not work with this Kings team. He should go to a team that really has a need their such as the Clippers or just sign with the Wolves. He doesn’t want to sign with us and play limited minutes so other young players can develop.

Mind You
Best Possible Signing: Rudy Gay
Remember, best-case scenario for the Kings, not for Rudy…nor it’s not the most likely scenario.
Sacto has plenty of cap space and could use another playmaker on the wing. Gay provides athleticism, scoring, and thrives in transition, meaning he should thrive in the Kings’ up-tempo system.
A PG-SG-SF combo of Tyreke Evans-Omri Casspi-Rudy Gay? A frightening image for the slower, methodical teams of the Western Conference.

This is all wrong.
You have the wrong idea of how they want to change.
If they wanted to go up-tempo we would not get a guy like dalembert, or Cousins for that matter in the draft. Monroe can’t run either.
We are not going to a full up tempo offense. It would just be nice to have an actualy SG with Tyreke if he decides to run the floor.
Outlaw is a good player, but he is a role player more than likely.
Rudy Gay is a nice player too, but not nice enough to spend the kind of money on him he thinks he should get.
FYI, I don’t look at youtube videos, they have no relation to any point we are trying to make.
I will show you a guy who dunks without jupming and you might ask us to sign him too, except he is horrible.
Casspi could run SG

You keep making the same argument
Have you watched him run the floor with philly?
We have a line-up already suited except for the point position.
Felton is a nice pickup.
Felton
Reke
Donte
Landry
Sammy
Outlaw does not fit in that equation.
And Casspi would get devouered by quicker and stronger SG like Roy, Bryant, Gordon, Monta Ellis, etc…
He did a decent job on LeBron in a game this year, but that is because you play off him and let him try and shoot, which you can’t make him do every time anyways.

He would have already shown more flashes. He has been in the league for a couple years more than our SF’s.

I agree with this roster idea...
but do you really think Cousins should start over Landry? I say we have him come off the bench to sub for Dalembert. He can learn in the back-up role while Dalembert plays this season for us. I really think we’ll let Dalembert go after this year, saving us salary cap money for 2011. We Have JT who can play both the 4 and 5. We traded for Landry last year for a reason, and I believe it wasn’t for him to be anything less than a starter. After this year Cousins will move into a starting role at C, solidifying our starting 5 for the next few years. Just a thought though.

I like Outlaw
But I don’t think he’s a good fit. He’s at the stage of his career where he probably wants to get in as a regular contributor on a good team. If he were to come to the Kings there is a good chance he gets pushed aside by one (or both) of our younger small forwards. It would be a risky career decision for him to sign a multi-year deal and then lose all his playing time in the middle of his contract.

Mr. Know It All...
I logged into StR from work just to let you know this idea is stupid. Just FYI.
"You seen my cell phone?" "What’s it look like?" "Like two horses f***ing. It’s a phone, son. It looks like a phone."
i dont think anyone cares what you do in your free time
just for your information

You really should only speak for yourself
Once you get better at that, then you can speak for others.
"Matt Cain's better at this than I've ever been at anything in my life. He's better at this than you'll ever be, at anything. Matt Cain has a gift. He has a gift, and when you acknowledge that, then maybe we will have something to talk about."

If
you seriously decided the Kings should sign Travis Outlaw because he had a nice YouTube reel, I don’t think I’m the one whose free time we should be talking about. You just advocated us giving Nocioni cash to a guy that’s worse than Nocioni.
By the way, I hear Gerald Green is available…

Travis Outlaw?
No. Donte and Omri are both better than Outlaw. They are more exciting to watch. Outlaw has good youtube videos?? So does gerald green with his dunking lol We don’t need another SF maybe an SG but not an SF. I think that if the Kings were to go after a SG via Free Agency that they should either sign Anthony Morrow, J.J Reddick, (this one will get some negative feedback) John Salmons. Morrow is a freak. Athletic and can score in bunches. J.J. Reddick saw improvement in Orlando this year towards the end of the season and would be a nice bench player behind Beno/Tyreke. John Salmons is a scorer. There are guys out there the Kings should sign but I don’t think Outlaw is one of them. Go Kings!!
Travis Outlaw averages about a point per shot attempt.
That’s…horrible.
Hopefully we can avoid using FA
By getting Dominique Jones or Terrico White in the second round to give that running mate to Tyreke and Beno.
I think FA is a mid-season option to shore up a weak position or cover injuries.
How many 2nd rounders get minutes on any team
a 2nd round SG is only going to get garbage minutes and won’t play ahead of Evans or Beno.
Most 2nd rounders don’t even make it to their 2nd year. If you want to make the team better now, you trade or sign FA’s after the draft to fill in the holes.
Late 1st rounders and 2nd rounders are kids with potential that you take hoping that they will develop down the road into at least a role player. So, if they do draft a Anderson, Jones or White, they’re still going to look into filling in the needs with FA’s.

Last year,
2nd rounders that got legitimate minutes include DeJuan Blair, Jonas Jerebko, Marcus Thornton, Chase Budinger, Sam Young, A.J. Price and perhaps even Jon Brockman. Last year was an unusual year for 2nd rounders, though.

And, Blair wasn't 2nd round talent,
Certainly some 2nd rounders make it in the league. But, most arent like Thornton.

Right,
but I think that is the point that some are making in regards to Warren and White, and perhaps others. They are 1st round talents that have seen their stock drop. True, Blair dropped because of his suspect knees, while these guys have dropped for their suspect attitudes.
The Kings pick is the 33rd of this draft. It is unlikely that they will get a big rookie contributor here. But it is not impossible.
SACTOWN ROYALTY - Try our thick creamy shakes!
Not impossible
just unlikely because most are undersized and they’d need to out play the guards we already have . Isn’t that why Greene and Casspi got so many minutes at the 2. Do, we really want teams switching their SG or SF on to Evans, by playing undersized SG’s? If that ends up being the case, I’d rather see the Kings pick up a playmaking PG and move Evans to the 2.
At the risk of repeating myself, which never stopped me before, in the year of the big man draft I see Brackins having the best chance of contributing on the Kings from the 2nd round.

Still
They have 1st round ability. Terrico White could easily develop into the steal of the draft.
i wonder if he will fall

2nd most athletic SG in the in the draft after Henry
He’s still a project, and doesn’t go to the rim enough considering his leaping ability. But a decent enough shooter and has the length to be a good defender if he works at it.
I’d pick him if he falls to 33, but I wouldn’t move up for him.

Warren has the best chances
his freshman year was amazing, and was considered a top ten pick.

He was good when
Griffin was the star and he was the 2nd guy.
Warren is under 6'4" with average wingspan and the worst vertical of any SG measured at the combine
He shot under 31% from the college 3 and averaged almost 4 turnovers a game. I’ll pass.

but with tyreke in, he would probably be handling the ball
so more of a PG
