Stephen A. Smith bags on Dalembert
I found this article thanks to Jason Jones' Twitter. Stephen A. Smith bags on Dalembert pretty hard, and at one point blames all of the Sixers woes on him, going so far as to say "[Dalembert's] negligence contaminated a chunk of the roster into adopting the same [depressing] attitude, which explains most of the Sixers' problems."
Yikes, wait until Smith gets to see Hawes up close and personal. He's not going to have nice things to say.

Okay, I think Smith was really harsh on Dalembert here.
There’s a lot to like about Dalembert. He’s already mentioned the rebounding, blocked shots and athelticism.
There’s also the suitability to the team. Last year, the people we used at C and PF like Hawes, Thompson, Landry, Greene and Nocioni were all geared for offense. There’s only one ball and only one person can score at any given time. With Dalembert concentrating on defense and rebounding, Thompson, Landry and Greene will have even more opportunities to score.
My best case scenario is that Dalembert become Rodman (with the Bulls). My worst case scenario? Dalembert becomes Luc Longley (still with the Bulls).
There can only be one Noce!
Fact is, Dalembert was a young big man when they resigned him to a large contract
The fans (heck maybe the organization) were enamored with his physical talents and saw something greater than what he really was. All the Dalembert frustration there is based on some idea that he was going to be a far greater player than he proved to be.

Glad you're still here Noce.
If you’re going to watch the Sixers this year you can give us updates on Hawes.

No wonder Dalembert wanted out, he became the scapegoat for all the Sixer's problems.
He is going to feel like he died and went to heaven when he gets here. Dalembert is going to be so appreciated, that he is going to have to pinch himself, to know that he is not dreaming. Just wait until the Sixer’s wake up to Spencer, I think some of their excitement will subside. Nocioni is going to be so happy to leave Sacramento, that he could end up being a pleasant surprise for them. All-in-all, I think it was a good trade for both teams. The only thing that really concerns me is whether the Sixer’s take Cousins at the draft, because of this trade. I hope we didn’t shoot ourselves in the foot.

Dalembert wants to be here, which is great
He even waived part of his trade kicker to make the trade work. He could’ve refused and the deal would’ve had to be re-shaped.

this is the first i've heard about him waiving part of the kicker
got any link or details?
Screw you Knicks! LBJ to the Kings!!!
Shows he is very motivated to be here.

OR he could have forced the team to wait until July to trade for him.

Wow, I really didn't need a reason to like and respect Stephen A. Smith even less, but thanks.

As long as Dalembert gives us 10-10-2 in 30+ minutes next season I will be happy
I think Philly expected this guy to be Dwight Howard or Shaq. Sactown just wants him to be Marcus Camby.
It’s funny that Steven A. Smith slams Dalembert for never developing an offensive game but the other Philly sportswriter on the radio the other day slammed Daly for not knowing his limitations on offense. Saying if he stuck to rebounding, defending, & shotblocking he would have been ok. So which one should it be?
I figure it like this, 1/4 of the discontent is Philly fan & Philly media frustrated with the team as a whole(understandibly), 1/4 is on Dalembert, & 1/2 of the issue was his contract.
I love beating dead horses.
Stepehen A. Smith could not even meet ESPN's "exacting" standards
He is Ailene Vosin, though not nearly as masculine.

It's nice to have a center
with a one-shot repertoire, especially when that one shot is the dunk. I think Hawes thought he was playing H-O-R-S-E out there when what he needed to do was master 2-3 solid go-to moves down low.
Ask yourself, how many times did you scream at the TV last year to JT or Hawes: “Just dunk the damn ball already!”
"I know we certainly gave up a lot to get him, but we do have other players on the perimeter who we can plug in. We haven’t had anybody who we feel is a go-to guy in the post. So we gave up a lot to get a lot, and we’re real excited about adding Carl." - Paul Westphal

Too often sportscasters and sports columnists play the duality of love the one you're with, crap on them when they are out of range
Sometimes they just trash talk to be known that they are “keeping it real”. There are two such personalities that come to mind locally. There are always fingers to point when you field a losing team. Some have bigger (and different) fingers than others.
Often their cojones aren’t so big when they are called on it – I don’t see anyone calling out the Maloofs, Stefafanskis, Petries, etc. As for facing up to players: Jim Rome built his career over being taken to task for his rude antagonism (Jim Everett) which was labelled as brave and brazen. This perversely propelled his status by those who appreciate such behavior.
Did Sam Dalembert privide disruption in the locker room? with the fans? With the coaching staff? Poorly represent the team to the community? If not, its just bluster, and weak sauce bluster at that.
I've said this before about Sammy and I'll say it again
Sammy is what he is. But he doesn’t come out without baggage, and for all the moaning of what Sammy didn’t do in Philly, he was good at what he did. The problem was he didn’t always play with that knowledge. It’s not like the guy is Reggie Evans or anything who plays willingly without the ball.
Sammy is a good rebounder, defender and shotblocker. But he is a well below average offensive C and is not a guy who will get this team a bucket. Like SAS said, Sammy didn’t always realize that. I listened to Sammy’s interview with Peaches, and it didn’t strike me as a guy who was really that self aware of his criticism. He’s not a mean fellow by any stretch, but self aware? Sammy Dalembert. I once had a Sixer fan tell me that Sammy is a Haitian slum lord. Somehow, I can believe that as strange as it sounds.
I like the acquisition of Sammy D for a lot of reasons. But, the criticisms coming from Philly are just as wise to take heed of as well.

stephen a smith is just mad
that he aint on espn anymore..
"I have missed more than 9000 shots in my career. I have lost almost 300 games. On 26 occasions I have been entrusted to take the game winning shot...and missed. And I have failed over and over and over again in my life. And that is why... I succeed." Michael Jordan.
IMO
SAS is miles ahead as a columnist than a talking head. His abilities as a columnist are pretty good IMO.

SAS was really a really good talking head
when he first started out. I remembered him on the fox sports report and he gave a lot of of good information and opinions while being actually pretty mellow. Then he went to ESPN and the whole Screamin A Smith persona started and it went all downhill from there. Oh well, at least the screamin persona lead to those great draft videos with the sock puppet.
I give it two weeks into the season until SAS says “SPENCER HAWES IS THE U.S. EQUIVALENT OF SLAVA MEDVEDENKO!”

well the only reason i never liked the guy is..
when i first heard of the dreaded C-Webb trade, it was Stephen A. Smith that was reporting the trade and all the details of it. i was also younger then so it probably stung worse.

I predict Dalembert to be behind JT and Cousins in the rotation by the end of the season.
Let’s see how he takes it.
I think he will be fine
And I think he will be more than fine when he is traded to a team poised to make a deep playoff run.

stephen a smith's comment was shitty AND ridiculous
look at it from this perspective:
dalembert was the senior member of the philadelphia 76ers, a nine year veteran playing for the team that drafted him…he was the #26 pick in the draft, a not very highly regarded player who turned out much better than anyone thought he was going to be – a guy who played 82 games 5 times, a guy who PLAYED himself into a nice contract…
he saw all the good and bad (mostly bad) from the philly front office over a nine year stretch…but he was always a defensive player, the last option on offense – he got paid big bucks to DEFEND, which he did at a pretty high level…by any standard, dude did his job – year in, year out
for dumbass smith to blame this lunchpail rebounder/shot-blocker for “most of the sixers problems” is an insult to even an idiot’s intelligence
on offense, his weak area, dude takes 6 shots a game and makes 53%…what, was he taking shots away from alan iverson who shot 20 times a game and made 8?
in other words fuck stephen a smith
