I was making my plans on how to experience this year's draft, and I decided to find out approximately when the actual picks start being made by reviewing last year's draft thread. In addition to answering my initial question (it appears that the clock starts on the first pick at 4:30), it was fascinating and often hilarious reliving last year's draft through the eyes of StR (I missed the live thread last year). In a strange way, reviewing the roller coaster of anticipation, excitement, jubilation, horror, disbelief, skepticism, and various coping methods left me feeling even more excited for this year's draft but also less nervous. I've been telling myself that I'll be okay with whoever Geoff chooses, but I think this is the first time that I've actually felt it. I also plucked from this thread my new sig line, spoken by one great philosopher and retold by another.

The words that I am sure to forget when the #5 pick is announced:

As I browsed and scrolled down minute by minute

reading all the disappointment about Rubio, I felt a huge urge to press the reply button and say “WE DRAFTED THE ROY FOR GODS SAKE!”

Good stuff

That whole sequence after Harden was drafted through the Evans pick aftermath is GOLD.

"Matt Cain's better at this than I've ever been at anything in my life. He's better at this than you'll ever be, at anything. Matt Cain has a gift. He has a gift, and when you acknowledge that, then maybe we will have something to talk about."

Fuck all the sports pundits, I want Ed's draft prediction

He predicted Petrie passing on Rubio in that thread and was the one who predicted the Kings 35 point comeback against the Bulls

look at the SacTown Royalty Draft Contest board..

Ed…..which I would assume is edm7 picked us to take Cousins and Randle

"I have missed more than 9000 shots in my career. I have lost almost 300 games. On 26 occasions I have been entrusted to take the game winning shot...and missed. And I have failed over and over and over again in my life. And that is why... I succeed." Michael Jordan.

Hey now

Someone else predicted Evans too and was actually excited about it and if you think I’m going to let anyone forget it THINK AGAIN PAL.

I may try again on Thursday

But I was thinking Rubio all along. I’m thinking DMC this time but gotta get that feeling at 3pm on Thurs… We’ll see

No clue

I’d have to go into work early which doesn’t always excite me. I guess it kinda depends on who’s going. I’m thinking about it since it’ll be my last Kings event in awhile.

thats a funny thread

seemed like everyone wanted rubio..

I wasnt a STR member at the draft last year but I had been pulling for Evans over Rubio for a while….

Dominique Jones is my sleeper this year.
DeMarcus Cousins is who I want to draft.

Just proves

we are all fucking idiots of the highest order and we should all stop reading our draft commentary because we obviously have no idea what we talk about.
Still fun to read though

There are some guys smarter than me, some guys better looking, I take comfort in the fact that there is no guy that is both.

Great read.

Thanks ASSN.

You guys should read the 2008 draft thread.

Here. That thread is my favorite one. The reaction when Jason Thompson is announced is priceless. Everyone figured we’d be “settling” for Anthony Randolph, or maybe Hibbert.

And the 2007 one where we landed Spencer.

2008 was fantastic

Carl’s haikus:

Asleep at the wheel
Geoff Petrie cannot decide
Artest forever?
Augustin plays point
Randolph is skinny but good
Draft a new swingman?

Or some of my comments. Like being excited when the Pacers were up and how they didn’t need a PG. Then they draft Bayless and trade him to Portland. And then, at 5:41… an explosion of WTF!

I like Exhibit G’s comments. Not enough beer in the keg . . . LOL

Yeah, the '08 thread was epic

From getting “Pritch slapped” to drafting a guy that no one had even remotely considered at #12, to the drafting of Patrick Ewing, Jr. in the 2nd round, that trilogy of threads will always be my all time favorite.
