Kings Extend Qualifying Offer to Jon Brockman
According to Twitter (link here), Paul Westphal came onto 1140 today and said that the Brock Ness Monster has been given a Qualifying Offer, officially making him a Restricted Free Agent. This means that the Kings can match any offers from other teams, or retain him for that amount ($937,195). It's not a surprising move, Nessie is a great guy to have around the locker room and an extremely hard worker. I'll update this with the "official" link when its announced.
UPDATE (H/T to pookeyguru): Voisin confirms in a Live Chat. Here's the transcript.

I was worried about him. With all these new bigs, I was afraid he was going to be lost in the shuffle. Glad that his services are still wanted.

Seems like a good guy, works hard, plays hard.
Why wouldn’t we hope he sticks around. Just like I wanted Pollard to be around, just like I wanted Funderburke to stick around, just like I wanted Ronnie Price to stick around, just like I wanted Jon Barry to stick around, etc….

Pollard & Barry are douchebags.
Ronnie Price got a better offer and opportunity. He should have gone. I like Nessie, but if he gets an opportunity somewhere else he should jump on it.

Dang
It also appears the Kings were going to sell the 33 pick, but kept it when Whiteside amazingly fell to them. Sweet.

And that Petrie isn't a big believer in the NBDL
Which has been shown in the past (How many D-League prospects have the Kings called up? Donte Greene only went down there for a game or two). So expect Whiteside to stick with the team.
Grandmaster of the "Never let AnotherStupidSN forget what a Sham-Wow is" Order and Originator of the "Brock Ness Monster".
I don't really blame him.
The core of any team, and any great team, is with top picks. On top of that, it’s mostly about finding fringe prospects and bottom of the rotation players. No major rotation player has really come through the NBDL. Squawk all you wish about Ramon Sessions or Marcin Gortat, but they weren’t major projects. They went down for a few months and showed they should be at the NBA. And neither guy is an earth shattering talent as good as both are. (Especially Gortat.)
The NBDL is a sexy idea but has very little use for how Geoff Petrie picks players and sees them developing. After all, how are you going to be effective against NBA players if you’re playing against NBDL players who are, mostly, not NBA players?

It also helps when you're Petrie
and you do so well in the drafts, that you dont even need to worry about the NBDL. With the types of players we get in the draft every year, we dont have any need to pull “prospects” from there.
Part of it is that the Kings draft higher than teams like the Spurs or Rockets have
It makes sense they would look for rotation players there and send their players down when they might be in a bit of trouble. It’s a cheap way to develop their lower rotation talent long term. But you can do that when you have stars you’re building around like Hou & SA have. Sac isn’t anywhere good enough to worry about developing a rotation player for cheap yet.

good points there
rec’d.
I think with Donté the NBDL was more of a disciplinary “time to get serious” move than anything.else. He wasn’t performing, his locker room presence that first year sounds like (I have no idea, of course) he was cutting up more than game facing, and remember that is with BJax on the team. Bighorns to give him some focus and direction. It might work well with Hassan, it might not.
Now that Hakeem has pronounced it a no-no, my guess is that Whiteside will consider it same. But the coaches here may decide and convince him otherwise if at necessary.
I don’t think the Kings drafted Whitesdie with the intention of sending him to the NBDL.

Maybe she doesn't but I think she undervalues him.
She talks about Beno being the playmaker and the point, the floor leader. Then goes on to say that our weakness is perimeter shooting, etc.
She doesn’t like the death by dribble offense, and she thinks Tyreke is NaPG, so in her mind Tyreke is a 2. But then you lose all the mismatches etc.
I’m not saying that everything she says is wrong, but I certainly don’t agree with everything she says.

they got a bit burned by being too hasty last season
The second round played out oddly last draft. They committed the #31 for Sergio and the #38 which turned out to be Jon Brockman. I am Mancake fan but even a Nessie advocate has to admit that DeJuan Blair in a Kings uni would look nice (and a very different looking draft position as I believe Blair would have enabled some extra wins and no DMC this draft).

Also being able to take the offensive boards he grabs
and just put it straight into the basket. Too much of the time he’d grab it and then get his shot blocked or lose it trying to get it out to the guards.

But if he can initiate contact on putbacks — even if he misses, he could get to the line and that’s cool too (if his FTs have improved. Otherwise it’s just cruel).

Agreed
Qualifying offer = 1 mil or less, but no one will offer more. As much as Brock is a fan fav and a great scrappy complement to our front line, he offers little more value.
Brockman can be a great player in spurts
when you keep him chained to the bench and then let him loose on occasion. He played worse and with less energy when he started getting semi-regular minutes last season.
"I know we certainly gave up a lot to get him, but we do have other players on the perimeter who we can plug in. We haven’t had anybody who we feel is a go-to guy in the post. So we gave up a lot to get a lot, and we’re real excited about adding Carl." - Paul Westphal

Interesting, I heard her on the radio once an got the same impression
I was listening to Grants Show (new to Sac and didn’t know better). Anyway, Grant was bad mouthing her really bad. Something about a column she wrote concerning how the Kings weren’t handling some player (a guard I believe) very well. And, Grant just went on and on, and eventually one of the callers turned out to be Voisin herself.
Well, She gave it right back to Grant. Made a great case for her point, and Grant backed away like a puppy from an owner with a rolled up newspaper. That’s when I first realized that Grant was a douche and wasn’t worth listening to.

Yeah, I thought she made some really good points
Especially about Tyreke. As much as people act like it’s tratorious to suggest that Tyreke is not a point guard, that’s not really the argument she’s been making. She’s basically saying that he struggles to make plays for others, which is absolutely true. Yes, he can handle the ball, yes, he’s a matchup nightmare for other PGs, but he’s not someone who has yet developed the skills to set other people up to score. That may come with time, but it’s not there yet.
So whatever you call him, I still think it makes the most sense to accept this fact of life for now and pair Tyreke with another guard who can set other people up, whether that’s Beno or a 2 guard who can facilitate the offense like Doug Christie did. The latter scenario is ideal because I love the mismatch opportunities, but there aren’t many 2s in the league who can handle the ball, pass, and defend like Christie in his prime.
Jon brockman=lou amundson; hustle type player that rebounds like a machine. In this case though, brockman won’t be able to show that he is worth a 2 mil contract like amundson, so he’ll be in sac for a looooooooooong time, imo
Draft Day 2009: I was in a Detroit theater about to watch the Hangover when my cousin texted me telling me who the Suns had drafted. I texted him back asking him who the F*ck that was. I shed a tear and told myself: The Suns are going to suck next year and Amar'e is going to be traded and my life ruined. 12 Months later to the day I am looking back at the Suns incredible playoff run to the Western Conference Finals.
Amundson was on the Kings VSL team a few years back actually
And I think he was on the preseason roster as well. I can see a similar path for Brock; bouncing around to a few different teams in the summer and then finding a home for a couple of years.
Then the X-Files being, looking like some kind of blue-green Jackie Chan with Isabella Rossellini lips and breath that reeked of vanilla Chig Champa,
did a slow-mo Matrix descent out of the butt end of the banana vessel and hovered above my bug-eyes, my gaping jaw, and my sweaty L. Ron Hubbard upper lip and all I could think was: "I hope Uncle Martin here doesn't notice that I pissed my f***in' pants."
What I don't see is him not being able to show he is worth 2 mil, so he stays on the kings for a long time
That makes no sense.
Then the X-Files being, looking like some kind of blue-green Jackie Chan with Isabella Rossellini lips and breath that reeked of vanilla Chig Champa,

You see, Lou was never thought of as a "good" player, but this past season he should that he is worth at least a 2 mil dollar contract, so as long as Jon is not part of the rotation
I dont see him signing elsewhere; as he won’t be considered a player the caliber of lou amundson; you need to prove yourself to other teams before you are signed to a larger, longer contract. (something that i don’t see brock doing as long as cousins, whiteside, dali, landry, and jt are on the team)
Yes I understand Lou's situation, and it involved trying out for several different teams before finding a home
Jon already has a contract and I’m pretty sure he’ll be happy with the same deal as long as he can get them. I really don’t see him remaining a king for a looooooong time though as you said, but if he does he will be a happy man, I’m sure of it.
Then the X-Files being, looking like some kind of blue-green Jackie Chan with Isabella Rossellini lips and breath that reeked of vanilla Chig Champa,

If he does I will be a happy man, brock is the quintessential type of player that you root for in the NBA.
playing pf at 6-7 is a tall order (no pun intended) and being able to grab rebounds in bunches deserves a lot of respect. Plus, he is the ideal complement for this new, tough team that petrie is constructing. Like Lou, I wish him the best and hope that he remains in the league for a while.

Agreed indeed
