Two-Part BS Report w/Bill Simmons & Chad Ford
Just wanted to endorse a listen of this two-part podcast, which had some really entertaining and insightful analysis by both Ford and Simmons. Lots of complimentary things to say about the Kings' draft (Ford at one point says that Whiteside is the only guy after 19 with superstar potential), lots of analysis of free agency and GM situations.... very very entertaining listen.
And I have to say - we all kind of love to hate Chad Ford, but his draft analysis has gotten better and better over the years and he comes across really well in this podcast.

He gives very good insight on how the 'rumors' work
Good listen if you have the time.
"Children want what they want when they want it." ... Andy Sims
Agreed on Ford
He’s been consistently great at the rumor game for years. Years. And he knows the prospects better than anyone not employed by a team.
And for the crap Simmons gets, he’s entertaining. Usually.
when do they start talking about the Kings?

I actually take that back, It's within the first 4 minutes

That's because what the Kings did is potentially a landmark moment.
Lotta people wanna know not just how the 6’9 cartoon plays out, but how the skinny ADD Carolina kid plays out. Should be intereseting.

No mistakes in the tango, Donna. Not like life. Simple. That's what makes the tango so great. If you make a mistake, and get all tangled up, you just tango on.....
Hahahahaa
Yeah.

I agree 100% with Simmons too
this isn’t a team anyone will want to play this year. We will have about 8 WTF games too, where we beat a team like the Lakers by 20. Everyone’s going to get a preview of how good we can be.
I’d add to his thoughts that we will be so freaking physical and huge now that no team is going to look forward to playing us. Win or lose they’re going to know they will get the crud kicked out of them for 48 minutes.
The thing with Ford
He does do good work, and he knows more about all this than we do because he does know people in the buisness.
I just get frustrated because he is much like people on here when they post something saying that their was a rumor or a source did something. I wish he would just show his work better if that makes sense. For example, I wish he would change his answers when he changes a mock or something like that.
But your right, for all the shit he gets, he is still knowledgable. Simmons…I don’t know about him.
Ford can't always "show his work"
Sometimes when a source gives him info the only thing he’s allowed to say is “a source gave me this info…” It’s not necessarily his fault. Apparently every potential NBA source thinks they’re fucking Deep Throat
#vfettkefordraft
That's because NBA teams can't let it go.

I meant more of
The mock draft’s I suppose, I can understnad the sources.
But as a fan, I want to read about why a certain player is going where he is, or why something is happening for that team. I just feel he leaves out some other details that would make the read of his better is all. I have a little extra spite just because I am an Insider and pay money too find out stuff and read his reports.
If you want a team's thoughts before the draft.....
….work for a specific team. Otherwise, you’ll have to wait.

True
Hence why I go to this site. I can get info on my favorite team all the time.
Even if we make it all up as we go along.

This.
Plus
does anyone else notice that Ford using uses the plural. As in “my sources indicate ….” He doesn’t usually just use one person.
Hey! What're you kicking me for? You want me to ask? All right, I'll ask! Ma'am, where do the high school girls hang out in this town?

Surprisingly insightful.
They manage to stay borderline decent for once. But there are several things I didn’t like from it:
1) Simmons has the notion that Cousins will get bounced around in the league due to his issues.
2) Both Ford and Simmons agreed that while Cousins will not bust but he will likely follow the career of a guy like Rasheed Wallace. The whole “coulda woulda” situations.
Other than that, I like their analysis today.
Rebuilding the Kings.
KF
In all fairness, he did not say he thought he would. He said that was his worst case him bouncing around.
Ok, that's a fair point.
Rebuilding the Kings.
I heard what Sptsjunkie said.
I’ve said the same thing myself.

It is like predicting the weather
80% chance of precipitation.
Will it rain? If it does, you are right. You are a genius. If you are wrong, well, you didn’t say it would rain, but it is most likely to rain. It is only when you speak with conviction that we have reason to argue and be upset.
Is Chad Ford the equivalent of Doppler radar? If described properly, yes. What the players become is beyond the scope of reasonable prognostication. To come out as authority on what should be when assessing a team inaccurrately is where he runs afoul.
Example that is close to home: Tyreke Evans. To say he is a bad pick, that he doesn’t belong, that he is destined to be subpar from his drafting position is a step over the wrong side of the line. Given his sphere of influence, this can often set a precedence of hwo that player is percieved. And thus, Tyreke Evans – naPG.
The media is a strange bedfellow.

Bill Simmons manages to be wrong but right in his mind at the same time with all the qualifiers and restrictions he puts on his comments.
It makes me laugh, and he knows a lot. But I can’t take him seriously.

Interesting discussion about the Jazz and DeMarcus Cousins
Along with the Pistons, another team that was hot for DMC. From listening to these two discuss Detroit, it sounds like the Motor City is where the Kings were two seasons ago. Hanging on to a making a playoff teamr that will not work, when I full scale rebuild is what is in order..
It would be interesting to get a poll of the GMs: Who do you think “won” the draft? and why?
by betweentheeyes on Jun 26, 2010 10:38 PM PDT reply actions
I don't know if many GMs would say the Kings
They’d say Petrie did well to draft Cousins but many of them probably wouldn’t think Whiteside’s a big steal. Remember, he was passed on by just about every body.

I like HW just cuz he can probably play PF.
Wish I had thought of that. That’s changed my entire POV on HW.

PF almost seems like his perfect position
Very quick, great shot. Still needs to up the strength but whats new.

Maybe Marcus Camby. Maybe Kelvin Cato (I hope not, and not THAT contract /shudder)

if HW
Can develop into starter, we will never lose a jump ball
LaMarcus Aldridge is the most over rated and over paid player in NBA. Tyreke Evans will be better than Brandon Roy this year.

That's what I would have thought about Spencer.
If you want to be your best, you have to do your best, otherwise you are only second rate.
Yeah
but then again, with you Whiteside point you could say that about any team. I mean by the same logic the Wiz, 76ers Nets and Wolves wouldn’t vote for the Kings because they wouldn’t think Cousins was a steal since they passed on him. In one case for a almost 23 year old SF who can’t create off the dribble. That one will keep getting funnier over the next couple of years.
Lol, at them talking about the Blazers.
Simmons asks Chad to talk Blazers’ fans off the ledge and Chad says Jump. Classic.
