I love how we all feel confident about our young team

We don’t need to huge names. We got our own future.

Voted for the NCAA legend JJ Redick.

Explain to me why you voted for Redick over Lee.

When I look at the stats, I don’t see any comparison. Maybe I am missing something.

If you want to be your best, you have to do your best, otherwise you are only second rate.

How about six reasons...

Dally, Thompson, Cousins, Landry, Whiteside, Brockman

Still amazed at this

Voted for Boozer.

Same here. I've been going all out Boozer since the last one (not an Amare or Gay fan).

Hey! What're you kicking me for? You want me to ask? All right, I'll ask! Ma'am, where do the high school girls hang out in this town?

by wallywagon11 on Jun 30, 2010 8:52 AM PDT up reply actions

I voted for Boozer simply because he'd be an upgrade to Landry

Since he could score and rebound, and then we can trade Landry for a higher caliber guard.

But I’m surprised at how much love JJ Redick is getting compared to Josh Childress, who is more athletic, has the potential to be a lockdown defender, shoots the 3 at a good rate, and he can handle the ball. I’ve watched him quite a bit with Olympiakos, and I definitely think he’s quick and long enough to guard NBA shooting guards (which means he can play shooting guard, because position only really matters on defense). Redick is alright for what he is, but he’s not a clear cut upgrade to Beno in my opinion, because although he shoots better, he doesn’t distribute the ball as well, and they both play defense about the same (as in they both try, but aren’t quick or strong enough to actually play). Beno actually gets quite a bit more steals too.

Another thing is that Redick is likely going to demand MLE type money. I’d rather use that type of money on a clear upgrade, which Childress definitely is.

My vote for Redick

was based on his capability to shoot the 3, and the fact we wouldn’t hurt our cap space as badly for 2011 (compared to everyone else on that list, except Childress). No one would argue his athleticism could stack up with Childress. Childress shoots the 3 at a “decent rate” (1 year he made a crazy 32 of 65, his other NBA years? 31.6%). Reddick over his career has consistantly shot 39%…and he shoots a hell of a lot more of them. We lost Martin and Nocioni and could use the 3 support. Plus his 86% FT percentage would be nice to have in our back pocket for tight games as well. (Childress nearly 80%, which i would also be happy with)

I agree Reddick’s D is suspect, and he isn’t the best ball distributer (in fact he really doesn’t do it at all), but “ball distributer” wouldn’t be his role on this team. His role would be to let Reke slash and distribute and knock down that 3 to bring us back to life or nail the coffin shut. Is that worth the MLE? Maybe, maybe not.

A question with Childress would also be the transition back to the NBA. Will he be the same player he was before he left? Is that risk worth the MLE? Maybe, maybe not.

As you said, Reddick is alright for what he is, and I’m alright with that.

by Gabraham on Jun 30, 2010 7:29 AM PDT up reply actions

Yeah but Reddick does a great job of putting gel in his hair, something Childress will never be good at.

Yeah JJ Redick would be last or 2nd to last for me from this list

He’s a complimentary player, not a star or even a potential star.

I voted for Redick

Basically, i’m happy with our forward positions, so that left Allen and Redick. I thought Redick would be less of a cap hit.

by markdog333 on Jun 30, 2010 9:56 AM PDT up reply actions

Paul Pierce anyone?

PP is a prolific scorer and an adequate defender at a position that the Kings have a need for. Omri and Donte are nice players but still developing and not nearly the polished player that PP is. I’m not really a huge fan of the Booze especially because we already have Dirk and Amare to play the 4. Carlos will be next off of my list, but the 3 needs a legitimate starter and Pierce is probably number 3 in the league at SF behind LeBron and Carmelo.

by Mityt on Jun 30, 2010 7:43 AM PDT reply actions

Why would Pierce come to us?

Plus I don’t like him. He wasn’t able to gear himself to actually play any defense till Garnett and Allen came in.

by Aykis16 on Jun 30, 2010 7:46 AM PDT up reply actions

I still like Pierce

He flops like a soccer player, but he’s a helluva guard. And before KG and Allen came to town, he had a pretty sad supporting cast. Ideally he should have risen above that, but it is understandable that he was discouraged and disinterested at times.

Never forget: I am a complete idiot

by Exhibit G on Jun 30, 2010 7:49 AM PDT up reply actions

Why would any of the guys on the lists so far come to us?

This isn’t about reality, this is about specific players and the Kings’ needs. If we were going to live in the real world we would have just started with JJ Redick as our #1 choice.

by Mityt on Jun 30, 2010 7:53 AM PDT up reply actions

PP

Is going to demand WAY more money than we should pay a soon-to-be 33 year old who scores 18ppg.

by Gabraham on Jun 30, 2010 7:51 AM PDT up reply actions

I went with J.J.

He’s the worst player as far as talent goes on the entire list.

I picked him, however, as he would be an excellent compliment to Tyreke in the backcourt. He hits the 3 at a good rate, plays competent defense (something I wish I could say about Beno), and moves extremely well without the ball, all necessary skills to play with NaPG. He is also the most affordable player and as the CBA will undoubtedly tighten up, why max out or overpay for one of these guys when the ramifications cannot truly be comprehended yet.

He is also young, can be in our long term plans, and fits the immediate needs of this team.

There now I've met the 75 word count. -pookeyguru

Just so you all know

I wouldn’t vote for Ray Allen, Paul Pierce or Carlos Boozer even if someone threatened me with having to eat at McDonalds, poorly edited published books, or having to mop my kitchen floor every day for a month.

…threatened me with:

a. having to eat at McDonald’s
b. poorly edited published books, or
c. having to mop my kitchen floor…

As much as i LOVE

JJ Redick; I still believe we should go after John Salmons. He has played in SacTown and now that we have a much better team he might actually want to come here. He can be our 2ed option (behind Reke) and wont have the pressure of caring a team. Though he is a little older I do feel like we can use this experience in our starting line up.

by shadowchicken on Jun 30, 2010 9:10 AM PDT reply actions

I have mixed feelings on this

I see what your saying, because we could his defense and he is a good shooter. My main concern is that he is not a team player. He always seemed to go out and get his and that was it. Plus, we already went down this road like a year and half ago. Dunno, just seems like going backwards.

John Salmons is a black hole that pouts if he doesn't start

So we’d have two guys in the back court that would run a lot of isolation plays. One of them is good at it, the other is amazing. I’ll stick with the one we already have

#vfettkefordraft

by vfettke on Jun 30, 2010 10:39 AM PDT up reply actions

Well

We had Salmons before this great Coaching staff came in, Maybe you’re right; But i think if he can play with Jennings he can def. play in Sactown. Maybe i will buy into the Team first concept it seems like we have going on. Maybe he wont, idk; I think he will be a cheap plug for the hole we have at SG right now. Reke, Salmons, Garcia…..talk about a good defensive backcourt. But again, idk

by shadowchicken on Jun 30, 2010 11:52 AM PDT up reply actions

I picked Reddick

because just about everyone else on the list would have to be overpaid to the extent that would risk an extension for the young core or force a trade down the line.

by sdfd on Jun 30, 2010 9:13 AM PDT reply actions

I went Pierce

ignoring the money issues, Pierce fills a need at the 3 with his shooting, overall scoring ability and defense (despite the fact he didn’t play any until KG and Ray Ray got to Boston, he does play acceptable D now.) Would he come here? That’s not really the question, is it…? I think he would be an excellent compliment to our existing roster. That said, I can’t stand anyone on Bean Town’s roster, especially Pierce…

exactly how I feel.

Its not realistic, and the timing might not be perfect, but he would be a great influence on our young guys because he knows what it takes to win.
