Quick question for Morrow supporters

What do you anticipate Morrow’s contract would be? I’m honestly curious, because I suspect contract size is what is deterring people from Boozer.

Never forget: I am a complete idiot

by Exhibit G on Jun 30, 2010 2:49 PM PDT reply actions

I think that's what it's been for me

A lot of the big men listed will get paid way too much due to the market. I’d rather overpay a cheaper guy like Childress or Redick.

As far as Morrow’s concerned, I’m not all the interested. He shoots the 3 at an amazing percentage, but that’s about all he does.

I can't see him costing less than $12 million for three years and I mean at the very least. I would be very surprised if it was that low.

There is so much money ready to be thrown out there that it just takes one idiot team to make this guy overpaid.

Because of the Early Bird Rule

The most Morrow can make is the MLE. I doubt he gets that much. Maybe half.

Early Bird Rule was put in place

because of Gilbert Arenas. Arenas was a 2nd round player who ended up exploding into a star, and even though the Warriors could match anything, they couldn’t afford to give him the same amount of money Washington offered. So Early bird was put in place so that teams would always have the financial capability of matching contracts for those players. It hasn’t come into play yet because no player since Arenas has been good enough to command more than the MLE on their second contract, and Morrow isn’t that good either. 3 mill a year might be too much for Morrow.

by Aykis16 on Jun 30, 2010 7:10 PM PDT up reply actions

I seriously wouldn't be shocked if he gets more than that

only because there are a lot of teams with room to spend money and there is a history in this league of GMs paying ridiculous contracts to players.

No Early Bird was already in place.

The Gilbert Arenas provision keeps 2nd round picks like Boozer & Arenas from making bank.

How so?

Could you please explain?

by Mityt on Jul 1, 2010 7:43 AM PDT up reply actions

What it does is cap the amount of money they can make.

They can’t make more than the MLE amount for awhile. It gives teams trying to resign their restricted FA 2nd round picks a chance to pay them the same than a team with a lot of cap space who doesn’t have bird rights. That’s how Arenas & Boozer got away.

Cleveland & Golden St didn’t have the space to pay them what Utah/Washington endd up paying Boozer/Arenas. if that makes any sense.

I truly think people don't like Boozer

Remember that whole shady deal with him leaving Cleveland? He made himself look like a turncoat.

We saw him enjoy frequent rides on the bench due to injury in SLC, and then he went out and was seriously beaten by the [redacted] bigs in the playoffs this year.

If he had taken it to Gasol a bit more, perhaps there would have been an increase in goodwill toward Boozer. But truly I just don’t think people like him.

This is nuts

Fans of a team that finished 25 games out of the playoffs last season would rather have role players than allstars.

I believe in developing the young guys and playing the salary cap game intelligently, but there has to be a balance between young gunning and veteran leadership on a good team. And vets cost money. Thanks to the rookie scale, we already have a nice set of guys playing on the cheap. Why continue to shop the discount bin?

Let’s pull our heads out of our asses and not choose Anthony Morrow here.

Why continue to shop the discount bin?

Because we need a few more years before we contend. Given that, why commit and tie up all our resources?

We will be drafting young talent again next year and have some opportunities to build on that. Buying a big-time free agent now doesn’t make sense. We are not winning a championship next year.

because i believe he is a realistic get for us also if you think about it he is very reasonable. I (most of the time Unfortunately) was subjected to alot of warrior games last season and when he is on the floor the other teams best defender would come out and try his damnedest to get in there and block that shot. the crazy thing is, he would still sink that three CONSISTENTLY, he commands attention and on a team like ours where Tyreke is Focus one he would thrive imo. i always say that GS stats are inflated because of the Offense but hey. if he sinks that shot all the time like that then i say why the hell not.

I'd like to see Ridnour here. When is he going to make the list?

He’s a true point, which we need, and he and could play with either Reke or Beno. His D is suspect but his ability to break down a defense and get easy looks for the bigs is right there with some of the best PG’s in the league.

by rico 59 on Jun 30, 2010 4:00 PM PDT reply actions

amen

I’d prefer Blake, but Ridnour would be a nice addition. Kid has his head on straight, would be a solid locker presence, and brings some vet experience. And of course the additional skill set you mentioned.

by chrysty on Jun 30, 2010 4:16 PM PDT up reply actions

The Morrow bandwagon is a little ridiculous

The kid played 29 minutes per game last year and hit 2 threes per game – in Nellie’s system. If you can’t drain a couple threes each game playing for Don then you suck. And I doubt that opposing teams were worrying about Morrow last year – we’ll see how he does now that defenses will key in on him. If the Kings throw a couple mil at him fine. But we have enough young, unproven players on this team. Let’s land a vet or two, especially a pg who can push the tempo, create shots for others, and hit the open shot.

by chrysty on Jun 30, 2010 4:05 PM PDT reply actions

Morrow shot 46% from 3 the past two seasons!

We have guys that will draw double teams – see Reke DMC. Morrow will be the last worry of an opposing team’s defense. What we need is a knock down shooter (e.g. young Peja) that will be able to sit in the corner and knock down an open three after the defense collapses on Reke or DMC. Morrow may be the best/most economical solution to fill that need.

Morrow has been shooting 46% from three for 2 years in the NBA (not three years)

Azubuike is a good three point shooter regardless of the system, shooting 40% for his career. That 45% was off of just 79 attempts. Morrow’s numbers have come off of two years where he throw up 184 and 307 three pointers.

and not one post explaining why?

I actually considered this earlier today when I saw that he opted out. He is a two guard (who when not forced to be one of the top options) who can create for himself and others. Good midrange game, and can score at the basket. Also, as we know, he can handle the ball a bit.

Also in 51 games with Chicago last year he had a 42 FG% and 38 3pt%. In 30 games with Mil he increased both of those numbers to 46% and 38.5%. A two 6’7" guard, who defends, creates his own shot, creates for others, and shots 38% from downtown is exactly what the Kings are looking for. Question becomes how much Salmons wants? My only dillema on bring him back on the Kings.

We can teach any of our wings to do the “spin into the lane and get the ball stripped” move if we miss Salmons that badly.

If his knee is OK, I think he’d be a good fit here. With Reke at the point, I’d be OK with rotating T-Mac, Cisco, & Beno as the other guard.

Morr…wait a sec….
Boozer may be an upgrade to Landry but how much of an upgrade? Based on their
salaries, is Boozer 3-4 times “better” than Landry?
….Morrow…..not too concerned about his defense….Donte’s guarding Kobe, Melo, Bron…. use Morrow to spread the floor, sets, someone to kick the ball out to, he’s coming off the bench (like Landesberg, Christmas, and sparkplug Rice).

Not a fan of paying max to gay

And if we have to overpay for morrow wouldn’t do it either. He is strictly a role player.

Personally I wouldn’t mind trading for (a) assets that are already under contract. Players with bloated salaries set to expire but packaged with draft picks or (b) just hoping we can trade for someone like Lee just because the team wants to get under the salary cap immediately.

Other than that I would be fine just offering a short term deal for a veteran SG or PG.

He just needs to synthesize that shit

maybe wear some sun glasses made out of cigarettes and pretend he has a vagina

young, angry, and male = old and broken
androgyny, synthesizers, audio tunes, wearing inadimate objects = new hotness

Jesus Christ... When is this summer going to end?

Thread derails, unfunny use of memes, not as many awesome Section214 comments, bizarre capitalization habits from new posters, Ray Allen and Paul Pierce somehow getting votes… It started so well, what with a promising young team, Geoff Petrie stealing the draft, etc.

I think I might go into STR hibernation until summer league starts…

the meme started funny until someone came in with no clue what rhyming was

Oh no, I'm more referencing the cheezburger stuff. I enjoy image macros when there is an actual joke in them.

But when there is just a picture of someone and it says “cheezburger” while they are literally holding a cheeseburger in their hand, I don’t see the humor… I guess I’m just an old, cynical fart that can’t wait for basketball to start again.

but I didnt see any cheezburgers?
