Greene and Casspi Battle it Out for the Coveted Starting Position

This week, beginning with today's Vegas Summer League game, Greene and Casspi are each trying to prove that he has the right stuff for the starting position this upcoming season with the Sacramento Kings. With the signing of Dalembert and the drafting of Cousins, the game has changed, so far as the starting lineup, from last season.

It is expected that Tyreke Evans and Beno Udrih will fill the one and two spots, while some combination of Samuel Dalembert, DeMarcus Cousins, Carl Landry and Jason Thompson will take the four and five spots. That leaves the three spot up for grabs, with Casspi and Greene the anticipated competitors for the coveted starting position. Who will get it? After the jump.

Greene played in the Vegas Summer League last season, coming off of his rookie season. Greene showed that he made a lot of gains in his skills, versatility, and maturity in his 2009-10 NBA season. Casspi played as a rookie last season. He garnered a lot of attention for his skills as a rookie, in the first half of the season, but was seen to have slowed down in the second half.

Both of these guys are fairly comparable in their current stats, Casspi being somewhat higher, but he also played a few more minutes on average, than Greene. Their performance in the Vegas Summer League may play a part in the decision of who starts, at the three position, in the upcoming 2010-11 NBA Season. Both of them are anticipated to play in the summer league starting lineup, along with DeMarcus Cousins, Hassan Whiteside, and Donald Sloan.

If you have a favorite, I invite you to make your choice on the poll that follows. I am favoring Greene, but only by a small margin.
