Newest Free Agent: Me?
Wuddup, Sactown, my name is Chris, and I'm currently a free agent in the NBA world. I'm from North-Central Kansas but am currently living in Taipei, Taiwan, serving as a missionary for my second of two years. I'm a huge NFL fan (specifically, of the Kansas City Chiefs), but I'm not a huge NBA fan, mostly because I don't have a rooting interest. I've been halfheartedly looking for a basketball franchise to support, but I'm coming up short all over the place. However, I'm somewhat circling in on a few real possibilities. After this final year in Taiwan, there's a pretty decent chance I'll be living in North-Central California, and it seems to me like there's one of two teams to support: The Warriors or The Kings.
Which leads me to ya'll: after seeing the show put on for LeBron the free agent, I'm thinking I should put myself on the market as well. I'm offering myself as a Fan Free Agent to both franchises, and I'd like you to convince me why I should be a member of your nation. As far as things I'm looking for go, I'm really looking at a few different characteristics:
- Future: I know both teams aren't stellar now, but which way are they trending?
- Going to games: I love attending pro games, but I'm a teacher, so I won't have a lot of cash. Will I be able to pull off a couple a year? And is the game day experience worth it? What sets it apart from the pack?
- Players: What star's jersey am I going to buy? And will he still be playing on the team in 3 years? (Extra points: Do the jerseys change so often that immediately after purchasing, I'll be forced to rebuy 20 minutes later?)
- Team/Ownership: How do the organizations treat the players and the fans?
- Other things I should know: "There's a good chance this team worships the devil, so if you have problems with that, perhaps you should seek another option," etc.
Would love some help on the project. Thanks, ya'll!

Expect biased polls from either site.
Stay focused, and stay away from unknown females.
Why are you fanposting while on a mission?

We need more missionaries on the site. You can pray for the Kings to make the playoffs!

We will use this song to lure you.
Just replace the words LeBron with Chris and King James with King Chris. (We had to make cuts on the budget)
"I have missed more than 9000 shots in my career. I have lost almost 300 games. On 26 occasions I have been entrusted to take the game winning shot...and missed. And I have failed over and over and over again in my life. And that is why... I succeed." Michael Jordan.

Curry?
He was good, but he wasn’t Tyreke good. It’s nice if you support GSW. But you should realize that Tyreke had a historical season. And the team did the same as the Warriors, and by same I mean they both didn’t make the playoffs.
I like you
You seem smart.

No way Curry will be the better player and had a better second half!
Then the X-Files being, looking like some kind of blue-green Jackie Chan with Isabella Rossellini lips and breath that reeked of vanilla Chig Champa,
did a slow-mo Matrix descent out of the butt end of the banana vessel and hovered above my bug-eyes, my gaping jaw, and my sweaty L. Ron Hubbard upper lip and all I could think was: "I hope Uncle Martin here doesn't notice that I pissed my f***in' pants."
Umm...NO!
Curry is great and all, but you can’t teach killer instincts. Tyreke has the body, speed, and handles that make him a force in the NBA. Curry is a great future player, but is not going to scare any defenders or be able to get physical. Plus, Curry can only guard PG’s I would say, maybe some 2’s, Tyreke can handle 3 positions on D and offense. Versatility wins. Curry can stroke the ball though, and Tyreke has to learn that.
You can't say Tyreke will have a better career.
Heck I remember whey McGrady looked like a hall of famer and Nash was just a starting point guard.
Until Tyreke gets his jump shot going, he runs the risk of being somewhat limited. Other than that, just pray to the injury gods.
Because talent? You want to add a guy like boozer because hes talented? I’m sorry i just don’t see that as a valid reason. -- fffindeed

Ok
1) Apologies for the GSoM thing. Wanted to post this on Saturday on both blogs, but there was the 24-hour wait period, so I couldn’t pull it off at the same time like I wanted, and when I went to post it here, I copied and pasted. Sue me.
2) My name is truly Chris Webb, not just trying to rally for love from here.
3) Am on a mission now, but I’m on furlough for the summer in the States.
4) Not meaning to insult or piss of anyone here at all; honestly, I’m just in the market for a b-ball team. I can read the standings—if I wanted a 2010-2011 championship contending team, I’d find one. But I truly am looking for a long-term team to support, and while Googling this or that gets some basic facts, I think you can learn a lot more from the real fans how their team is and about the attitudes and tendencies. Seriously, I’m not trying to piss off anyone by being an attention whore or anything. If anything, I’m hoping/expecting you to talk about yourselves.
Tis all.

I'd like to help you out, webby
But ultimately, you need to make this decision on your own. Being a Kings fan is a lot like being on a mission – It is a largely thankless task unless you look within yourself. When you tell others of your efforting, they will nod politely but think that you are quite mad. You draw huge satisfaction from small victories, because you can’t yet count on the large victories. But in the end, you know that you are doing the righteous thing, because only the righteous venture down the road less traveled.
Oh, and with the price of food at ARCO Arena, the “Ghandi” approach is recommended.

And that's cool.
All I wanted to hear. I realize I’m making the decision on my own (I feel like I’m considering entering the Marines). Just want to know from fans that love the team about why the love the team. The ESPN only says so much.
Watching the 2009-2010 Chiefs 12 hours ahead of you (in Taipei, Taiwan).
Twittering my every move. Don't act like you're not even slightly interested.
I was kinda kidding about the attention whore thing.
Just found it odd that you were selecting a team to root for. For me, it’s just something that happens, usually based on geographic location and my interests as a kid. However, I now know that no matter where I live I will ALWAYS root for the Kings.
So, why do we love this team? Because it started as a team that everyone made fun of and then transformed into a team (not just individuals or players) but a TEAM, that went out and played basketball the way Mozart wrote symphonies, or Van Gogh painted, or Leonardo invented, or Steinbeck writes about California sunsets.
And they came as close to winning a Championship as you can get without actually winning a Championship while playing this style of ball.
We love this team because it is OURS. We don’t have another pro team in town (despite my emails to Major League Soccer), and so for fans in this town, the Kings allow us to come together.
We love this team because they broke our hearts and had their hearts broken, and we thank them for the beautiful and painful experience it was and continues to be.
But, right now, I love this team for what it can become. Laker fans and fans of other powerhouse franchises can only sit back and cheer their team on as it is presently constructed and hope like Hell they win the ’Ship. We get to fret endlessly at which players will do what and when. We get to speculate and propose asinine trades. We get to watch our young, promising players grow and take us to new heights.
Thus, if and when the Kings start becoming a perennial playoff force in a few years, not only will we have the excitement, hope and fun that other fans have, but we will have years of agony, promise and dedication as accompanying elements.
And if we reach the promised land, it will make the glory that much sweeter, better and epic.
So, if you’re looking for a team to get excited about, you’d be coming on board at the right time. Sure, you didn’t go through the 17 win season and the pain of “the shot” (which shall never be mentioned), or the Mikki Moore era. But at least you’ll be getting on board before the bandwagon really starts filling up.

I love being a Sacramento Kings
Future: I’d have to say the Kings have a much better future than the Warriors. We have better young players than the Warriors do; we have players such as Tyreke Evans, DeMarcus Cousins, Omri Casspi(my favorite for his toughness, can-do attitude, and his will), Jason Thompson, Donte Greene, and Hassan Whiteside, whereas the Warriors can really only boast Stephen Curry and a bunch of minor D-League players. Basically all of our young players are extremely likable and personable, players that a fan can really get behind and root for now and in the future.
Going to Games: The Sacramento Kings have a past of packing Arco Arena to the brim with fans, and it happened regardless of how bad the team was. However, I’ll be honest, right now going to games currently isn’t the best experience because the local economy isn’t the best and people aren’t as inclined to come. Often, however, the trend of an empty arena was starting to fade off, and people were coming. The team figures to be much improved this year, so this along with motivated owners who want to sell tickets (and for cheap!) should make going to home games the experience it was in the past.
Players: Tyreke Evans is the star in Sacramento.. I’ve heard the term “Purple Jesus” to describe him; this is because he is kind of seen as the savior of the Kings franchise; potentially the best player we’ll have to date and he couldn’t have been drafted at a better time. Evans seems to really enjoy the team and Sacramento, so I don’t see him leaving any time soon. Get that Evans jersey, you won’t regret it!
Team/Ownership: Joe and Gavin Maloof may not be the richest owners out there (Warriors fans are probably chatting up how rich their ownership’s going to be), but they do what the can to help the team win, as seen by their willingness to spend when the Kings were championship contenders. The Maloofs are basketball fans and they hate loosing; they are loyal to Geoff Petrie (GM) who is one of the most respected general managers out there today. Petrie has put many winning teams together and he’s in the process of doing the same again.
I will say that recently to sell more tickets, the Maloofs have picked up their old ways of treating their customers very well; reading about some interactions on this website makes me think they are great at recognizing customer interests. Overall I haven’t had too many problems with ownership at all, something Warriors fans cannot say about their past, present, and future (just because they’re rich doesn’t mean they’re good) ownership.
Other things you should know: We fans hate the L*kers, and for the most part we love the direction the team is heading and the vast potential we see. We are cultured in losing and winning; we know disappointment and defeat, but right now hope is growing in fans, and hopefully you can see that by hanging around here at Sactown Royalty.
The Kings look to be a very good team in the future with an actual game plan as laid out by Geoff Petrie.. looking at the Warriors’ recent actions they lack the direction and cohesive movements Kings’ management has made.
Become a Kings fan and you’ll be immersed in a very diverse group of fans who became fans for different reasons besides being the local team. Honestly I can’t tell you why you should be a fan; hang around and follow the Kings, and you’ll really see why we’re all fans.
