The Asinine Offseason Thread - El Tres

I shouldn't have to explain this anymore but apparently I do: If you have an idea for an offseason move such as a trade or free agent signing, post it here. If your "FanPost" (notice the quotes) would be better served as a comment somewhere else, post it here. If your "FanPost" is barely long enough to meet the 75 word requirement, post it here (and yes, I get the irony, fuckers). If you think LPA might murda U 4 how bad UR grammer and speling is, post it heer!

This is really asinine

I think we should not make any trades until we near the deadline and then hopefully it will be clear that we should move Sammy’s expiring contract because DMC, JT and Swat have shown so much.

Sign and Trade Brockman

to the Nuggets for Arron Afflalo. Afflalo is a great SG pairing for Reke. Great 3 point shooter and extremely good defender.

The Nuggets really need big man help even with the signing of Al Harrington. Brockman could provide a lot for Denver.

Maybe a few draft picks and cash could be somewhere in the deal. I would try this out on the ESPN Trade Machine, but Brockman isnt on the roster so I cant.

And if Afflalo works out

we could re-sign him next year. But the lockout makes everything complicated..

They would know we would never accept

JT and Landry could both net a lot more than Afflalo if we dangled them in the trade market.

I think that can work....

I’d send out Landry if we got back Lawson and Afflalo.

New roster:
C: Dalembert, Cousins
PF: Thompson, Whiteside, Brockman
SF: Garcia, Greene, Casspi
SG: Evans, Affalo
PG: Udrih, Lawson, Sloan(or whoever makes the roster)

I like the balance of that team.

Lawson is severely underrated and I think he’s a better shooting version of Felton. Affalo is an ideal 3rd or 4th guard and brings a lot of what we need in one player.

We could incorporate Toronto in the deal to move Martin’s expiring to Tdot, and bring Calderon, Evans and Belinelli to Denver. I’d think Toronto would be on board ditching that salary of Calderon’s and for the Nuggets they get Calderon to replace Billups and Lawson for that huge upgrade at PF.

Denver’s roster:
C: Nene, Andersen, Butch
PF: Landry, Evans, Williams
SF: Melo, Balkman
SG: Smith, Belinelli, Karl
PG: Billups, Calderon, Carter

Toronto’s roster:

C: Bargnani, Alabi, Jones
PF: Martin, Davis, Dorsey
SF: Kleiza, Johnson
SG: DeRozan, Weems
PG: Jack, Barbosa, Banks

I think everybody’s roster looks better and more balanced after that trade

by Smills9133 on Jul 15, 2010 1:22 PM PDT up reply actions

This is a great trade.

I like Landry and I think he is moving more towards sticking around after this season but finding two young, talented, backcourt guys to fill out the roster for the next 3 years is pretty intriguing. I don’t think the Kings are ready to move away from Landry yet and I think they believe they can steal minutes with inferior young player alongside Beno, Evans and Garcia. Before doing something this drastic, the Kings need to see how the big rotation of Cousins, Landry and Thompson mesh- Dalembert is one and done in my book. If this trio is as good as they look like they might be, then I see the Kings making this the front court for the next 5+ years with players like Brockman and Whiteside (and Greene in a pinch) among others filling the voids.

Affalo and Lawson would be nice but the Kings might only have 20-22 minutes to give away after Evans and Beno. Those minute might be better served with Garcia and band aid solutions or on cheaper options like Rudy Fernandez/Udoka.

Truth is, on talent alone, and nothing else, I’d rank DMC 1st.

Cousins can be a major star.

Your last paragraph is very important

In Smills lineup above, he slots Garcia/Greene/Casspi at the SF. We finally got out of our SF logjam, now we go and get ourselves another one?

by LPKingsFan on Jul 15, 2010 10:12 PM PDT up reply actions

Not really

Garcia can swing down to the 2, Evans to the 1, Greene up to the 4 and even Casspi can play spot minutes at the 4. I think that roster is just VERSATILE. And we can match up or create what we view mis-matches against other teams line-ups. I would fully expect the top 8-9 players to see the bulk of the minutes.

by Smills9133 on Jul 16, 2010 6:34 AM PDT up reply actions

coool, Greene and Casspi can play the 4!

so can Landry, Thompson, Whiteside, Brockman and possibly Cousins and Dalembert. We need quality, not quantity.

by LPKingsFan on Jul 16, 2010 2:11 PM PDT up reply actions

What I'm saying is...

…that roster has versatility. Minutes can be squeezed from multiple spots, depending on match-ups, flow of game, foul trouble, injuries, etc etc etc.

Pigeon-holing each player into a finite set of minutes at a certain position is both myopic and unrealistic.

Yeah I agree Landry, Thompson, White and Brockman will see bulk of their minutes at the 4. But if we’re playing a team with a stretch 4 and they get hot, why can’t Greene AND Casspi play simultaneously to help slow that match-up down.

Or if Thompson gets injured why can’t Greene see 10 minutes backing up Landry?

Stuff happens during the seasons. Weird things, weird line-ups are needed. Why not have a flexible and versatile line-up to help off-set those things to give yourself the maximum chance to win on any given night.

by Smills9133 on Jul 16, 2010 2:18 PM PDT up reply actions

I know this is supposed to be asanine and logic has nothing to do with most of this.

But I don’t think that Denver wants another scoring PF like Landry since they signed Harrington for 5 years.

If this had been proposed a week ago, It’d be perfect.

I wouldn’t. SGs are a dime a dozen. Can’t really say that about 6’11 SFs.

Gasol will destroy Cousins in that matchup.

Westphal said that he doubted that Cousins could cover PF’s. There will be a lot of cross-matching in our lineups no matter what. We will be putting Sammy on Gasol and Cousins on a less versatile Bynum. Neither will win their matchups most nights, but that set-up is much better than most teams can put up against LA.

Well yes there is that (There is on every forum, ever.)

But some people had some fan-posts right after the season that just blew me away. I never felt inclined to track the intricate defensive stats, and I remember right after the season there was a chart (Ziller may have posted it.) that just blew me away. I had to read it over a few time to understand it and it helped me figure out a lot about our team’s dynamic and what we needed to improve on beyond the obvious stuff.

Seriously, I disagree... strongly

We don’t necessarily “bad mouth.” We talk some smack, yes. But most if it is filled with quite a bit of snarkiness. Yes, we make fun of idiot GMs and coaches. But a lot of people do. We’re not the only ones guilty of that. On top of that, other people get paid to do it. None of our “bad mouthing” is really mean spirited. We jokingly refer to a certain championship team as the [Redacted] because we “hate” them. It’s not like someone here is threatening to give Kobe Bryant food poisoning or anything… at least not seriously. Almost every form of bad mouthing here is half hearted and joking. Hell, Pookey and I trash each other constantly? But we do it all in jest. The reality is, our “bad mouthing” is just in fun – with a little bit of truth smattered here and there. I think our sense of humor sets us apart from other blogging communities.

Dalembert I am sure did not get beaten too badly in that match-up if you watch the whoel game. Cousins also has much more offensive skill than Sammy, so your argument is based off nothing but highlights pretty much it seems.

Are we talking healthy Bynum?

Because he’s been playing on a bum knee for years now. He hasn’t played a full season since 06-07. In 2008 he missed the playoffs completely. In 2009 and 2010 he was limited because of the same knee and played like garbage. So if Bynum’s healthy, Cousins will struggle. Luckily for Cousins, Bynum hasn’t been healthy.

Would any of these benefit the Kings?

D. Cook and Maynor for Landry
—Maynor may be valuable to OKC, so I could see them pass

Sessions and Ellington for Landry
—They want to shop Sessions and Ellington could a good shooter/scorer

Bayless and Fernandez for Landry
—Portland would probably not accept, but Bayless would be nice

Pietrus and Ryan Anderson for Landry
—Anderson can play 3/4 and Pietrus the 2/3 and Orlando might want to win now.

I don't mind those trades

but they seem a bit one-sided. I wouldn’t be surprised to see Orlando dealing though. Their front line needs shoring up, that actually might not be a bad fit for Orlando either, having Landry start and PF and Lewis shift to SF.

by MichaelMack on Jul 18, 2010 11:10 AM PDT up reply actions

I know moving Lewis to the SF is the conventional wisdom of what's wrong with the Magic....

…but I disagree. I think Lewis does fine at the PF and better than he ever did at the SF while playing for Seattle. Especially defensively.

What I think the Magic need to do is balance their court offensively. They didn’t have problems defensively against Boston; it was largely offensively and it was mostly spacing and where they were taking their shots from.

Most people say midrange shots are inefficient, but the fact is that they aren’t. They just don’t have the same amount of points in theory as a 3 ball does. The problem is that theory doesn’t work with reality and you have to balance the floor appropriately to take what the defense gives you. If the defense gives you 15 footers all game, as Boston’s defense often did with Orlando, then you have to have players take advantage of them. Namely Jameer Nelson and Rashard Lewis.

I like the last two, but not for Landry

I’d do it for JT and another piece, though.

I think Ryan Anderson would be a great pickup. Nice game in limited minutes. He’d be a star on the Suns.

"I know we certainly gave up a lot to get him, but we do have other players on the perimeter who we can plug in. We haven’t had anybody who we feel is a go-to guy in the post. So we gave up a lot to get a lot, and we’re real excited about adding Carl." - Paul Westphal

Is anyone opposed of bringing Matt Barnes back?

Then we should have shortened him to "Boobichowdersmith" instead of "Peja".

Yeah he always comes back in the summer

Used to play in a summer league out in Carmichael every year. He goes to Folsom to party sometimes too.

I just had a softball game vs him last Tues

Second summer in a row I’ve played against him in softball. He is a real cool guy. I play with his brother on my basketball team as well. They look like twins!

It's a good idea

Ijust think Matt would rather go to a contender. He is a good role player in a good winning situation. Kings are not there yet.

Lets get Asinine

Samual Dalembert for Kevin Martin.

Gives us that high efficient scoring 2 to play along side Tyreke we have needed since last trade deadline, and barely makes a nick in our frontcourt. Kevin would fit in well with Sacramento, and might even be familiar with our system. Reke/Martin/Greene/Landry/Cousins looks damn good right now.

Yao is back and they just signed Brad Miller, so no

besides PW is all about defense and Martin, well let’s say that defense isn’t Martins strong suit. Probably one of the reasons we traded him for Landry in the first place.

Yep

Because that Tyreke-Martin pairing really rocked last year.

Plus all of sudden you’re back to having no defense up front.

Yeah it did rock during that 10 game strech they played together....

…during Reke’s rookie year and with K-Mart coming back from injury. And also because the Kings became an instant playoff contender with Landry. Seemed like a fair assesment of a Reke/Kmart background.

Pistons Bynum is still a RFA
  • He averaged 10 points and 4.5 assists/1.8 TO in 26 minutes
  • He is 27 years old
  • His current salary is ridiculous for such a player
  • Pistons current 2010 payroll is exactly on the cap (58.5 millions)
IMO he can be an excellent addition
Ok, Ok, they will sign him eventually, but maybe the fact they still didn’t do it (waiting for other teams possibly) is a good sign?

Landry for...

Haddadi, Arthur and Rights to Xavier Henry.

Why for the Kings – Get the guard we’re looking for to hit 3’s and D it up. Replace Landry with depth in Haddadi and Arthur. WAIVE JACKSON.

Kings roster:

C: Dalembert, Cousins, Haddadi
PF: Thompson, Whiteside, Arthur
SF: Greene, Casspi
SG: Garcia, Henry
PG: Evans, Udrih, Sloan

Garcia aint starting

Good influence on the bench, zero in the game.

by mike murray on Jul 19, 2010 8:35 PM PDT up reply actions

That's a depth chart

Beno and Tyreke will start in the backcourt barring an unforeseen pickup, but both of those guys would be labeled a PG for depth chart purposes. Kind of like having two shortstops and starting one at 2B, but then having someone else at the “top” of the 2B depth chart.

Garcia does have more than zero influence in the game…I think you’re underrating him. Awesome player he is not, but he’s a solid basketball player. Remember the thread to build a Tyreke Backcourt Buddy? The criteria pretty much described Francisco Garcia.

Like the idea of going after Henry

especially considering that their contract impasse continues, but I’d keep it simple and offer a future 1st.

This is how I want to finish off the roster this summer.

Trade Landry and Casspi to Memphis for OJ Mayo and Sam Young.

Waive Darnell Jackson, sign Wayne Chism and Tyrese Rice

Sign Matt Barnes to a 2 year 8 million dollar deal(5 and 3).

Kings new roster:

C: Dalembert, Cousins
PF: Thompson, Whiteside, Chism
SF: Greene, Young
SG: Mayo, Garcia, Sloan
PG: Evans, Udrih, Rice

TPE and 2 2nd round picks(ours and Milwaukee's) for....

…Rudy Fernandez.

The Blazers want to free a roster spot for Mills and Johnson, and Rudy is assuredly on the outs. 2 2nd’s likely in the top half of the draft looks like decent value along with the TPE to add trading flexibility.

Kings roster:

C: Dalembert, Cousins
PF: Landry, Thompson, Jackson
SF: Greene, Casspi
SG: Garcia, Rudy
PG: Tyreke, Beno, Sloan

by Smills9133 on Jul 22, 2010 12:01 PM PDT reply actions

i like this because it doesnt remove any of our core players, doesn’t really hurt us in the long run and with Landry, Dalembert in their final years, we can always pick up some more picks with on of them in trades this year(Most likely Landry)
