PrintThe Kings go up against the Raptors this afternoon at 3 PM PT. The Raps are led by athletic wings DeMar DeRozan and Sonny Weems, and also have lottery pick Ed Davis inside. The Kings are unbeaten, thanks to stellar play from DeMarcus Cousins and fantastic support from Donte Greene and Omri Casspi.

TODAY'S GAME
is not gonna mean too much if we lose. our backcourt rotation is new every single game, so these games aren’t necessarily about gaining chemistry.. just showing the feel of the game n what-not. i’d like to see sloan step-up, though. afterall, we did sign the guy (for cheap) to a contract! i’ve liked devan downey while he’s been in.. not so much tyrese rice.. christmas is also showing me a lot more than ryan thompson.

anyway, it was great to see the team play in person, and now that I’m back in LA, I’m excited to watch it online (sad to say I missed the Webber commentating)!

If you’re going to have a repeatable FT shot, you need to maintain the same routine. Bouncing the ball 10 times before the 1st shot and 2 before the 2nd is just to radical a difference too me.

that's a bullshit stat...
Martin and Noc, and Landry for that matter never pass…and with the exception of Martin, neither Noc or Landry hold on to the ball for long, they usually launch a quick 3, or make a quick/simple post move. They don’t create so their chance of creating a TO is way lower. Martin is obviously VERY good at controlling the ball as he drives the lane, but almost never looks to pass so it usually ends up in a made shot, trip to the line, or a missed shot. That being said, I don’t like that stat and don’t think it validates your point otis.

I've always thought it's better to look at it like this.
If a players TO’s are high, but the team’s are low, than the player is not really TO prone. He just handles the ball a lot for the team. Steve Nash is a prime example of this.
If a player is TO prone, and the team is also TO prone, than it’s an excellent reflection. Again, Russell Westbrook is a nice reflection of this.

It implied that Omri and Cisco were not big turnover guys because they ranked 4th and 5th on the team in that stat. My take was that the stat really didn’t speak to how protective a dude was w/ the ball based on the 3 ranked ahead of them. Anyways, I see what you were trying to say, I just think there should be maybe a different metric to judge this as pookey described above.

My point was in response to Marcus’ continued assertion that Omri’s a turnover machine (and #12’s assertion that it’s not surprising considering Cisco was Omri’s “tutor” last season).
If either of these guys are really a turnover problem on this roster, the statistics don’t really bear it out.

I say Greene is the Starter
Depending on that word “potential”. Greene can be the better player, but Omri hustles and plays with energy. I think Greene wins it all in the end and we either trade Casspi or make him a 6th man.

I personally have a hard time seeing Greene as a starter. I don’t think he is very consistent on the offensive end and his rebounding is brutal. He needs to work on one of those areas or his defensive needs to be insanely great.

“potential” I think it is. It has almost everything too do with that. Hence why I think he will be because I am hoping he develops into the player he can be.

long term this is potential based.
But even for next year. Greene is a 40% 3 point shooter, plays D, and is tall enough he clogs the lane Lamar Odom style which is a HUGE weapon for the Lakers. With say Cousins/Sammy, JT and him on the court the paint will be a big obstacle course for opposing teams.
Greene’s handles may never be good enough for him to break players down, but he is a pretty good straight line and “one move” dribbler which also lets him take advantage of off-balance defenses or mobility challenged PFs and Cs tasked with guarding him.
Odom is also a great rebounder, defender and ball handler.

I never compared Greene and Odom offensively. Their games are very different. Defensively though, Odom is a SF/PF who can guard swing players and whose length at SF lets the Lakers clog the lane. Part of the reason LeBron has always struggled against them. Bynum, Pau and Odom simply put a lot of length down there and as of last season James was inconsistent when he could not get to the hoop. At a minimum Greene can do that and hit 3s, which makes him valuable to me.
On a second note.
Odom is a good defender on certain swing players and clogging the lane. He is far from a good man defender though. True big men or wings abuse him. In the finals they didn’t even give him a crack at Pierce and Big Baby abused him with his weight advantage. He also is not a true shot blocker or smart team defender. Yet his height and mobility allows him to be an asset.
