playing today? or are they resting him

They better not be resting him...

…It’s the last game of VSL, why would they rest him?

by DiegoKing on Jul 18, 2010 2:23 PM PDT up reply actions

Boogie needs to be a lot wiser on his shot selection.

The big fella needs to start posting people up and stop with the long jumpers, and intensify his defense. That’s all I really ask of him, is that to much? lol

Brennan Huff: I have a belly full of white dog crap in me, and now you lay this shit on me?

by DiegoKing on Jul 18, 2010 2:22 PM PDT reply actions

LOL

for now it is.. he’s a young kid who’s straight fatigueeedd.. it’s hard when the other team collapses on him and double/triple teams him in the paint lol.. what’s weird is that they’re doing that in SUMMER LEAGUE. he’ll learn. he just needs to work on his conditioning. maybe lose another 15lbs to get a little more up

by D00M on Jul 18, 2010 2:25 PM PDT up reply actions

I agree, just wishfull thinking is all.

I would like him to turn the 15 pounds you want him to lose in to muscle instead, obviously he needs to work on his conditioning and stamina while he’s at it too. How would exactly would that work, I don’t know. Maybe he does need to lose 15 pounds, I just him to be a power house monster.

by DiegoKing on Jul 18, 2010 2:43 PM PDT up reply actions

yea , it's pretty hard to post up someone when the guards give you the ball 15ft from the rim.

And, you have to dribble your way to the paint thru double and triple teams. None of the guards are helping, and the few real nice moves we’ve seen have come from feed by the other big.

by DiegoKing on Jul 18, 2010 2:45 PM PDT up reply actions

The PG's are feeding him the ball where he positions himself.

He calls for it a lot of the times 15 away from the rim.

Brennan Huff: I have a belly full of white dog crap in me, and now you lay this shit on me?

by DiegoKing on Jul 18, 2010 2:47 PM PDT up reply actions

i'm not worried

this guy is gonna be BEAST status.. only thing is his defense is a little suspect (could be fatigue..) cousins needs more up ’cause there are a lot of players that play well above the basket.. he does have a knack for stealing the ball though

by D00M on Jul 18, 2010 3:09 PM PDT up reply actions

There is no disagreement there, I know he will be beastly.

I trust Westphal and his staff to help Cousins and Whiteside maximize their potential. They know a hell of a lot more than I do about the game.

Brennan Huff: I have a belly full of white dog crap in me, and now you lay this shit on me?

by DiegoKing on Jul 18, 2010 3:24 PM PDT up reply actions

Oh, I agree, but the question is why?

Is he getting it there because he doesn’t know how to post up in the paint?
or, does the coaching staff what to see how he can play away from the basket, in anticipation of him playing some PF.

or, is he just too tired to put up a fight, closer in and is just taking the easy route?

I feel like we say this about every big man we get..

I’m starting to wonder if Elie is telling them to shoot more, I already know the coaching staff loves it when big guys shoot, and it drives me insane. If they ruin Cousins for me, I think my head will explode. Can we please have a strong interior guy who plays in the interior?

Darko Milicec passes just as well as Vlade Divac... Vlade would be the first to tell you that

Really?

I rarely post on this site, but I read it daily and I really respect the content turned out by this community. I come here for good information and insight on my favorite basketball team. Today I got home from the beach and I was very excited to read this thread and get an in-depth recap of what has gone on this game. Instead I have to read through this silly, childish argument between two grown men. Truly a sad sight.

I know pookey is an old timer on STR and that he is well respected here. Hell, I respect what he usually posts. I really enjoy his input. But this is just ridiculous. If he wasn’t a veteran on this site, I think that he would be punished for this.

I’m not going to respond to whatever anyone writes in regards to my comment. I just want you guys to know what a casual poster feels about this kind of thing.

Thanks for your time and GO KINGS!

I don't doubt you've seen 10000 times more of Lin than I have.

But there is a reason Lin went undrafted. And my other point is many 6th men in the NBA are quite often top 10 picks, sometimes top 5 picks, and will go in the lottery quite often too.

Jeremy Lin wasn’t drafted at all for a reason. No reason he can’t make the L, but if a team wanted him badly he would have been picked in the 2nd round.

I think it's more that Cousins is in Cousins' head

These guys aren’t real competition. He just needs to prove that he can get in the right head space when he’s frustrated and battle back. He’s taken himself out of SL as much as anything else. He’s hypercompetitive, but needs to find a way to get back in a rhythm when he’s struggling.

He looks tired as Hell and uninterested in being there.

I disagree

Mahinmi is real competition even if he’s not a big name at this moment. Cuz is gonna struggle awhile with backup bigs then he’ll figure them out. Then he’ll figure out how to deal with the starting bigs eventually.

I think his problem is, and I’ll say this for a long time until it’s proven otherwise, that he just isn’t used to quality competition. But the attributes you list are good qualities and I think he can persevere. Especially in Sac. I’m not so sure he would do as well in other markets.

The Diamond Line

I think the reason you “sorta” like Neil Diamond might be because of the thing I call the Diamond Line, pookey.

See, there’s a dividing line in pop music and on one side of it (The Good Side) there’s stuff that ranges from just plain catchy (like say, "I Love Rock & Roll by Joan Jett, or “Crazy” by Gnarls Barkley) to full on genius (e.g. “Hey Jude” by The Beatles); and on the other side of it (The Bad Side) things range from cheesy (“YMCA” by the Village People, to absolutely brain cell destroying crapola (“Don’t Worry, Be Happy”)

Neil Diamond exactly straddles that line, which is why it’s named after him.

Songs like “Solitary Man”, or “Shilo” are brilliant, perfect pop songs that can change how you feel about life, and yet he still turn around and can write cheeseball stuff like “Song Sung Biue”.

You could love many Neil Diamond songs and have great taste in music, but if you loved all of them, even “You Don’t Bring Me Flowers”, well you’d be pretty fucked up.

Wow

There was a TV show? Go Figure

"It's just like the story of the grasshopper and the octopus. All year long, the grasshopper kept burying acorns for winter, while the octopus mooched off his girlfriend and watched TV. But then the winter came, and the grasshopper died, and the octopus ate all his acorns. Also he got a race car. Is any of this getting through to you?"

But I was thinking of the movie and realized I’d made a mistake on her. Although she looked somewhat similar.

Highly skilled, but with a ton of question marks.

I do think the euphoria after a couple of summer league games (and the giddiness over not getting stuck with Greg Monroe) has now been tempered a bit. That’s probably not a bad thing.

Exactly

I’m glad he struggled too. It’s not gonna be easy once the real games start.

I’m also glad Elie played him a lot of minutes. I truly believe he wanted to send him a message for DMC to realize getting in better shape is a serious thing.

Cousins struggled these last three games, but hopefully, he is getting the message that it isn’t going to get any easier for him. DMC needs to get over this pouting thing. He did it last game, too.

I just got back from Vegas...

I was there for a bachelor party so didn’t get an opportunity to see the summer league games. I WAS however at the Encore hotel at 3:30AMish last night when I saw Tyreke, Hassan, and Boogie leave a night club together. I am assuming they were at the club XS. I saw Jerebko leaving as well. I wasn’t sure if I was happy they were all bonding, excited to be 10 feet from Tyreke and co, or thinking maybe they shouldn’t be partying so late. (Apparently DMC didn’t get carded…maybe it’s because he doesn’t have a driver’s license so he had no card to check) but that could explain why i got home to see the final score I saw. But hey, “it’s just summer league”…

I realize he is in Vegas, but he should be taking good care of himself to play well.

Doing an all-nighter (if there is any truth to this), the night before a game, is not taking his commitment to his new team very seriously, IMO.

I get they has to be a professional and all but Whiteside just literally became a millionare a few days ago and they both played quite a few games in a row. I would rather hear about them going to a club than hear about them going to a strip joint.

i wasn’t saying in response to what. Personally, I don’t think DMC or Reke did anything wrong. That’s me. Young men do that kind of thing all the time. Nobody busts their nuts about it. It’s Summer League. Players are getting to know each other. One way is off the court in a setting they feel comfortable. But there’s a couple things here to remember.

1) Most problems here would stem from alcohol consumption. Neither Reke or DMC are old enough to purchase alcohol yet.
2) DMC could have spent his time in the Palms (or whatever hotel) and had the same performance.

Not that this is any justification, but i'll add

that none of them were acting overly intoxicated. In fact it looked more like they were walking out of a movie than a club (Jerebko stopped by the bar I was at just outside the club, briefly, then walked away). There wasn’t any fanfare at all, unless you count me ignoring the girl I was hitting on as I acted like a little kid in excitement.

As for the strip club comment, I can confirm that none of the Kings players were at Sapphire “Restaurant” Friday night:-)
