Honestly, As long as we are getting something in return, I am fine with this.

Brockman was a great player who knew his role last year. He was the symbol of how the Kings are trying to turn it around.

Fast forward 1 offseason, and there is no PT left for him with the acquisitions of SammyD, and the drafting of DMC, and Hassan Whiteside.

I would love Delfino as a physical backcourt mate for Reke and a deep ball shooter.
His contract is 3.5M for this year, then a 3.5M team option for the next. So Delfino would be just getting a little tryout here. And he is still just 27.

But really, when we arent going to get anything out of Brockman, a sign and trade involving him would be fine with me.

Plus I heard they sell pretty good pancakes in Milwaukee. Its a dream fit for both of us.

This is how i see it too...

I love Brockness, but he’s going to be absolutely buried on this roster by both solid vets (Landry/Dally) and young guys who need minutes (JT/DMC). I think it’s in the best interest of both Brockness AND The Kings to go their separate ways, and I hope they can find him a good home out there in the NBA to show off his stuff.

We will always be rooting for him.

by Cyg on Jul 19, 2010 10:57 AM PDT up reply actions

next year

he will be missed. whiteside is 2-3 years off i think. looks lost most of the time on the floor. next year i’m guessing kings won’t want to ink samuel to a long-term deal so he may be gone. that puts you down to JT, Carl & DMC in the rotation – an injury and you’d like to have a 4th guy. I don’t think Whiteside will be that guy next year but JB could.

Cut the cord beetches...

Personally, Jon Brockman is a guy you want on your team for intangibles. He has strong character, great locker room chemistry and drive on the floor.

From a business standpoint the guy is undersized, and as mentioned above, is now ABSOLUTELY BURIED on the depth chart to where he isn’t going to see many important minutes behind all of our other 4’s and 5’s. It doesn’t hurt anything but heartstrings if he leaves.

Also, I thought Nessie was an unrestricted free agent. What is all of this sign and trade mularky? Wouldn’t he just take MIL’s offer instead of ours?

With all of that being said, I can be happy for Brockman if he goes to Milwaukee or any other city where they might utilize him more. On a personal level (one of the magnitude of seeing Scot Pollard leave or Jon Barry leave) yeah it sucks a little bit.

I guess the point of my rant is, when watching the games next season he will hardly be missed at all.

by unfair weather on Jul 19, 2010 9:52 AM PDT up reply actions

I think the only concern

is he plays the game the right way and was very effective in spots as a rookie. Then you see the way Cousins act sometimes in comparison and it makes you want to hurl.

If that’s the “future,” I hope Cousin cleans up his act. Jon Brockman could certainly teach him a think or two about composure and class.

"I know we certainly gave up a lot to get him, but we do have other players on the perimeter who we can plug in. We haven’t had anybody who we feel is a go-to guy in the post. So we gave up a lot to get a lot, and we’re real excited about adding Carl." - Paul Westphal

by Dub_TC on Jul 19, 2010 9:40 AM PDT reply actions

CDR is nice, with big upside, but.............

Carlos Delfino would be a much better fit. Nails defender, doesn’t need the ball in his hands to be effective, and is a very effective 3 point shooter. Would be a major score for the Kings providing this story has any legs at all.

They really need Bogut to keep playing like he was before he got hurt and if Jennings can develop quickly they might be better than people think. The two of them plus the guys they signed this offseason makes for a pretty good team in the East, even if they are overpriced

Chism feedback

I was lucky enough to watch all the VSL games he played in and was def underwhelmed. He is a 4 year college player, who played big time minutes at a big time program (Tenn). I think he has a poor shot selection and really seemed lost at times with his help defense and post presence. I expected him to be vocal and more of a leader give his college experience and did not see that. He does not seem like the kind of guy who would be able to make a impact with limited minutes, which I think we can all agree that is all he will get. Does not seem to have a huge upside like a few other guys.

"Does not seem to have a huge upside like a few other guys"

Like what other guys? We’re talking about a potential sixth big and 13th man here, not someone we’re hoping is going to come in and be a superstar. Chism has good size, strength, skills, and hustle. He’s not supposed to come in and be vocal and be a leader, he’s supposed to show that he can be a good fit and be a good energizer, which I thought he proved he was more than capable of.

He shot 57% from the field and 75% from the line, so I don’t know where your concerns about his shot selection come from, and he had 5.4 boards in 17.4 minutes.

Agreed

I aways thought he had a better deep-ball game, but looking at his stats he takes and makes very few 3 pointers, which surprised me, because I remember him being a deadly shooter at Memphis with Rose.

I hate to see Brockman go but I've been wondering why he has been taking so long to sign his qualifying offer

Little surprised because it was for more than they had to offer him by roughly 200k or so. I wonder if they bumped his qualifying offer to make him a slightly more valuable trade piece if that makes any sense. If the rumor is true, good for Jon, guys like him need to get on the floor to show what they can do in order to stick in the league. His style of play is a good fit for Scott Stiles. On the other hand the rumor was that the Nets traded CDR because he wasn’t a good locker room guy. His side says he was just frustrated because of the season the Nets had last year. Who knows?

He's a scorer.

He doesn’t have a bad shot, he just doesn’t have shooting range. I think he could develop into a better shooter overall but he would be a pretty nice find if that is the way this goes down. The Bucks acquired him when they got wind that Salmons was opting out. Then they traded for Maggette and Salmons resigned. In a sense, CDR was nothing but insurance on Salmons and now they don’t need him. He is almost identical to Ron Mercer IMO- another guy who could really score from mid range and who wore out his welcome a few times with his lack of conscience.

What’s Jon Brockman’s 3PT percentage??? It doesn’t matter we need guards, yes I agree we need guards that can shoot, but shooting numbers can improve bad percentages doesn’t mean a guy can’t shoot. I don’t even know if we are getting the guy, but he’s a good player and fits a greater need than our beloved Brockman. There was no arguement

I wasn’t trying to argue my point was Brockman isn’t a guard. We don’t need him we have too much in our front court to where he’s expendable so having someone like CDR as a guard is better than having Brockman who probably wouldn’t get on the floor enough to help us with all of our forwards. CDR if that’s who is coming our way will definitely get PT and help us as a guard, because that’s where we lack.

Yes, we Lack Guards... I get that.

and nobody is doubting that Brockman is expendable, however, PW has been quoted, as saying we need Shooters. I am not sold that CDR is a good pickup simply because he is a guard. I mean… Dont we want a guard that can shoot? and 3PT % is one thing we can key on.

I believe if a player is coming back to the Kings it's Delfino

Delfino is 28 and next years contract isn’t fully guaranteed, so his contract is one on which the Kings can take a gamble. And, he’s more of a outside shooter which the Kings need. Plus he’s not part of the Bucks future because of his age and he’ll be 30 when he comes up for a new contract. Plus the Bucks signed Maggette for the SF position and he has 3 years left on his contract. And, Salmons just signed a long contract to be the starting 2.

Redd isn’t expected back until Feb but that shouldn’t be an issue. He might not play for them again anyways, since his expiring contract might be the best thing about his return.

The Bucks do seem to have a good line up of PF’s with Gooden, Illyosova, and the rookie Sanders. But I’m guessing that Gooden is going to see some minutes at Center, so Brockman come be a nice piece for them.

Meet him last year after a preseason game an dhe’s a class act. It is (or was) an honor to root for such a hard working guy. If it’s true he’s going East, I will probably try to get his jersey and wear it proudly even after only one year here in Sac.

That being said, Jon Brockman isn’t winning us many games in the future. With what the Kings have up front right now, there just isn’t room for him. Hopefully he lands in a good situation where he can get some minutes and contribute; he deserves that. The Kings are just not that situation for him anymore.

Landry and Beno make them really fucking good. I like Ilyasova a lot and obviously love mid first rounders for Petrie to play with. But Landry and Beno? No thanks.

um yeah. me too.

(all lower case because i’m trying to say this quietly)

Truth is, on talent alone, and nothing else, I’d rank DMC 1st.

***Update***

Cousins can be a major star.

If Sam was the beat guy for the King still

He’d have dug up what the receiving piece(s) would be for the Kings by now. This has been linked for like 12+ hours now.

Get on this Jason “L@k%rs fan” Jones!

Woj confirms
@ WojYahooNBA Bucks are close to acquiring Jon Brockman in sign and trade with Kings for Darnell Jackson and a future 2nd round pick, league source says.

http://twitter.com/WojYahooNBA

Jackson is enh – big body, not very athletic and not very skilled. Seems like this is a way of getting more money for Brock – Bucks were over the cap and a S&T allows them to sign him for more than the minimum.

We'll miss you, Brocktimus Prime!

Brandon Jennings will need an enforcer like Brocktimus around in the playoffs.

RIP, Coach Wooden.

Thank you, Geoff Petrie.

Brockman and Ilyasova will have fun in practice

They are basically the same guy. Glue guys who fight like hell and do a lot of things that don’t show up in the box score.

On Darnell Jackson: I may be wrong, but seems to me he was a guy who really slid down the draft boards. I think he was initially listed top 10 or at least lottery-bound in the early mocks, but probably didn’t have a good enough senior season.

"I know we certainly gave up a lot to get him, but we do have other players on the perimeter who we can plug in. We haven’t had anybody who we feel is a go-to guy in the post. So we gave up a lot to get a lot, and we’re real excited about adding Carl." - Paul Westphal

Brockness go home boy, go...

It is logical, the brockness monster will have a good home with Milwaukee. Folsom Lake can’t compare with Lake Michigan. As long as he has a place to run around and be free and his new owners will feed him well and take care of him.
