StR Community Free Agent Board, Pick 14
Raymond Felton and Paul Pierce led the field yesterday. So now we have LeBron, D-Wade, Bosh, Joe Johnson, Dirk, Gay, Amar'e, Redick, Ray Allen, Morrow, Salmons, Felton and Pierce off the board. (Note: Players with a strike through their name have since been signed or have come to terms)

I voted other
to express my desire that the team not pick up anyone at this time due to team development and CBA positioning. I think the team would do well to look for free agents next year (when they are cheaper) or event 2-3 years out (when the younguns are ready to be a playoff team for a while)
Childress then flew to Greece and asked the team if they would pay him in gold bars, hookiers, weed, and marijuana. The rest is history.
Agreed
If I had to choose from one player from that list though, I would go with David Lee. Not the greatest defensive player, but serviceable. Improved his rebounding skills and has always been a great scorer.

Congrats to the Dutch.

I think the Kings should stand pat for another week and see if any of the free agents get desperate and will sign on the cheap?

Boozer.
talent has to win sometime. even if its pick #14. Plus if we went with Childress we would have to give him a huge contract judging by the contracts already given out.
"I have missed more than 9000 shots in my career. I have lost almost 300 games. On 26 occasions I have been entrusted to take the game winning shot...and missed. And I have failed over and over and over again in my life. And that is why... I succeed." Michael Jordan.
Looking at the contracts that were signed yesterday, no wonder NBA owners are losing money. Spending 20-30 million on Darko, Drew Gooden, and Channing Fyre is idiotic.

were those teams
that desperate to fill a specific need? I just don’t get it.

Same here
Yesterday, under an article blasting the Darko signing there were comments from Wolves fans defending it by saying things like “we really needed a Center, and there weren’t any better options out there”. I’m thinking if that’s the case, not signing any Center is a better option than overpaying for Darko. Your team is still going to suck for a couple of years anyways, why spend a good chunk of change on a guy who maybe makes your team slightly less sucky? Before last season, we were all sure that the Kings were going to sign another Center because the only one on the roster was Hawes. But there weren’t really any good options there, so we just rolled with a bunch of PFs, tried out JT at the 5, and now we have potentially our Center of the future and a reliable vet Center that’s a large expiring contract. How would that be different if we had signed some big stiff as a backup center before the season, other than to waste some money and possibly get a worse draft slot?
Build through the draft, use your cap space to trade for players that fill needs, sign a FA only if it’s low risk (big money for an obvious star, or a little money for an unproven commodity or one-dimensional player). Do they really think Darko will be their starting center when/if they’re ever in the playoffs again? Will he ever really be worth his contract?
I don’t get it either.

If only there was a center available in the draft for the Wolves to pick.
Because talent? You want to add a guy like boozer because hes talented? I’m sorry i just don’t see that as a valid reason. -- fffindeed

The Suns alone
spent $48 million for Frye and Hakim Warrick. I know they are losing Amare but damn. $30mil for Frye and $18 for Warrick?? Really??
You didn't hear, sarver wants to shed his cheap title by overpaying two guys who have done nothing to prove themselves in the league?
according to sarver warrick>5 time all-star!
When in reality Amare>frye, warrick, clark, barbosa, lopez
I'm about 93% sure that Marion did Marijuana, the other 7% is probably weed.
What I also find mind-boggling
is the length of contract’s being offered to players 30+. Paul Pierce is 32yo and he’s getting a 4yr extension. Don’t the Celtics realize he’ll be 36yo in the last year of that deal?? And Mike Miller (30yo) getting a 5 year offer from the L*kers?? Well I don’t mind if they kill their cap. Actually make Mike Miller’s contract 5yrs 82mil L*kers!

Just read that the Suns in order to make room for Warrick
had to renounce the rights on Soudemire. Now they couldn’t do a sign and trade with whomever Amare signs with. Wow…I hope Warrick is worth it. I bet Kerr is glad he’s not around for this mess.
he is not worth! warricks left nut

Salmons (who is two years older than Boozer) got 5yrs $39M. Anybody still think they’d prefer him to Carlos?

A lot has been said about Boozer
My two cents, presented as part of a piece that I did 12/31/08 –
Carlos Boozer is an NBA all-star, a career double-double man (21/11 over the past two plus seasons). He is a low post beast that finishes at the rim with either hand, and he can hit the mid-range jumper. He runs the pick and roll with the best of them, and he is currently 27 years old. He has already told the Jazz that he is opting out of the final year of his contract.
Oh yes, that. Carlos Boozer has the reputation of being a "mercenary," a gun for hire, a player with no loyalty. This was born out of his nasty exodus from Cleveland. And there is no way to candy coat this – when an agent thinks that you’re too sleazy to work with, well, that’s sayin’ something. Add to that the announcement to opt out and the fact that he has missed significant time to injury in three of his seven seasons, and you have all of the ammunition that you need to call this guy a selfish pr*ck.
Except that his teammates have never really castigated him for any of this. It is the nature of the beast of the modern day athlete. They all play in glass arena’s and none of them will throw stones, as they are all prepared to take a similar path if the opportunity presents itself. Boozer played out the required length of his first contract, as smarmy as the termination of that contract may have been. And now he has nearly played out the second contract, and he will be available to the highest bidder.
It’s almost two years later and the stats have changed a little, but the crux still holds true. Someone is going to pay this man, and he is very, very likely to deliver on what he is paid.

No mistakes in the tango, Donna. Not like life. Simple. That's what makes the tango so great. If you make a mistake, and get all tangled up, you just tango on.....
Only if Boozer played for a #5 picks salary.
"Seriously guys, why are they pissed off? Because of the rape... are you sure? That doesn't add up." - Daniel Tosh on Kobe Bryant
No
At age 28-29 and for what he is going to cost, I would only want Boozer if he were the piece that put you over the top, and he would not be that for this Kings team.
That said, my selection of each of the free agents has had more to do with them as assets, and not really considering the contractual obligations. In Boozer’s case, he is an easy addition to the current roster if you are going solely on talent, because he is better today than anyone we have today. That is not to say that Cousins couldn’t be better in 4-5 years (Cousins could also be out of the league in 4-5 years).
In other words, I disagree with those that would not have him here because our front line is set. It is not. It’s just better than the woeful excuse for a front line that we’ve had for the past several years. I would take him right now for 4 years and $40-45 million. But he’s going to get paid larger and longer than that, so we get to watch the youngsters grow up, and that’s OK with me.

why was haywood even considered?
Is there a player from this group that could be less valuable to us?
