F#ck Kobe Bryant.
F#ck Shaquille O’Neal
F#ck Phil Jackson
F#ck Rick Fox (twice)
F#ck Sasha Vujacic
F#ck Robert Horry
F#ck Derek Fisher
F#ck Dick Bavetta, Bob Delaney and Ted Bernhardt – I’m still waiting for them to have their jerseys retired at Staples.

Pooh Jeter is technically a Rookie at age 26.

Having only played internationally and one year in the NBDL.

Wow, we're playoff bound now.

Never seen Jeter’s game. I hope he’s decent. At the very least, I hope he’s the speedy change-up point guard I was wishing for.

by clicc916 on Jul 23, 2010 1:09 PM PDT reply actions

We had Pooh on our VSL team

a year or two ago. I remember he played pretty well. Certainly better than any of our PGs this year. Basically a more experienced version of the Sloan/Rice pu pu platter we nearly invited to camp.

by SPTSJUNKIE on Jul 23, 2010 1:15 PM PDT up reply actions

Jeter did perform quite well in the Summer League

14.4 PPG on 48.2% shooting (although only 25% from 3), 2.0 RPG, 1.0 SPG, 5.4 APG, to only 2.4 TO.

Looks better than Donald Sloan anyway.

With these signings the Kings roster looks like this:

PG: Tyreke Evans, Pooh Jeter
SG: Beno Udrih, Francisco Garcia, Antoine Wright
SF: Donté Greene, Omri Casspi
PF: Carl Landry, Jason Thompson, Hassan Whiteside, Darnell Jackson
C: Samuel Dalembert, DeMarcus Cousins

That is the minimum 13 players needed. I would not be surprised to see the Kings opt for one more player as insurance, perhaps Ryan Thompson. It also looks like they might keep Darnell Jackson instead of waiving him as I once thought.

by Aykis16 on Jul 23, 2010 1:15 PM PDT reply actions

Jeter quietly made a nice impact in SL.

I had read that he looked like an NBA player- the improvement over last year was very apparent. He is undersized but at this point, he looks like a lot better option than Sloan.

On the Darnell Jackson front- Petrie made the exact statements last year about Hilton Armstrong. Jackson has very little chance of sticking IMO. The Kings are better served with a young player like Thompson, even if that player spends some time inactive or in Reno.

The world is not your Trade Machine.

I like the idea of Jeter backing up at the point.

It’s a natural fit for him, he seems like a solid distributor who can still score when the opportunity arises.

This is the best Pooh this organization has taken in years.

“Jeter is settling in nicely into a feature role with Hapoel Jerusalem after starting off the season coming off the bench for Euroleague team Unicaja Malaga. We may be a bit biased in this case, but in our mind there is no reason not to think that he’s right on the cusp of the NBA with his terrific quickness and creativity. He proved as much by being one of the best point guards in summer league playing for Portland. His improved perimeter shooting ability is a major plus, as are his strong intangibles, and his size may not be as much of an issue these days considering the success that many sub-six-foot point guards are having in the NBA right now.” – Jonathan Givony

It must be very close to reach it.

Wright last year contract was 2,110,550$, Jeter will probably get minimum (around 0.5 million, he is technically rookie), so if Wright’s contract will remain on the same level as previous that will pretty much do it.

Team salary is calculated at the end of the season

the only limitation going into the season is that you can only have less than 13 players on your roster for a max of 2 weeks. So I believe we have 13 if you count Sloan, Jeter, Wright and Jackson.

I understand that

I’m not asking them to overpay someone or go after a max player. But it wouldn’t have put them in a financial bind to go after someone like Farmar or Ridnour. This team needs more experienced players. Obviously Petrie didn’t see anyone he loved. I’m still hoping he has something up his sleeve

by chrysty on Jul 23, 2010 2:47 PM PDT up reply actions

Guh, Farmar & Ridnour

I’d rather go the route we’re going and be sitting pretty in 12 months than overpay for those average-at-best talents.

We aren’t making the playoffs this season. We’re going to improve, and get Cousins’ legs under him, while Evans grows his game. Everything else is secondary.

It is my understanding...

That Kings Fans are Split… between your opinion

“we aren’t making the playoffs this season”

and This Opinion

“KIngs got a shot at the 8th spot”

for the record… I would rather another year of Lottery Picks. But your right, Improve we will.

A man who understands the plan. ^

You don’t have to agree with the plan but I agree with andy sims, this is the direction the Kings have decide to go, and very clearly.
If the opportunity for another acquisition, a lä Eric Maynor to OKC comes around the Kings are in position to accept it, providing they leave room on their roster. The time from the start of the season to the trading deadline may present some good discount deals and the Kings will be in postion to accept a variety of offers for the most part or participate be a part of a deal to make it work like they did with Larry Hughes (aka Tyreke’s ceiling).

The position of just clearing the minimum salary bar makes it possible for a max type player to join the squad. May not happen, probably won’t happen, but at least it could happen.

while receiving Brandon Roy and Emeka Okafor’s contract

Portland gets CP and Landry and moves Camby to N.O.

I had him as one of my top 3 PG's FA's

In the Best Shooter of Summer League thread, I posted this

A couple of guys that might be worth bring back. Pooh Jeter who was on the Kings SL team in 2006 & 2007. With very good PG skills and shot 41% from three in the EuroCup, while playing in Isreal last season. He’s 5-11 and 26years old, but could be that quick defender that plays situational minutes against the quick PG’s that give Beno trouble.

I also like having an experienced player at the 3rd PG rather than some undrafted rookie. He’s going to come out and do his job and not try and make a name for himself at the expense of the offense.

PG: Beno/Jeter

SF: Greene/Casspi
PF: Landry/Thompson/Whiteside/Jackson
C: Dalembert/DMC

Does everyone think that Landry is starting at PF w/ Cousins behind Samy? I think the starters by mid-season will be Samy and Cousins. And I also think that Garcia may start with Tyreke. I can really see Thompson and Landry coming off the bench together on the second unit.

PW isn't likely to make wholesale shift changes like in Hockey

and because of all the games we lost in the 4th quarter last season, I can see Westphal playing Cousins and Dalembert in the last 6 minutes of close games to control the boards. Letting the shooters shot and having the two big centers clean up the glass and score on the offensive rebounds.

So, unless DMC can make a leap in his conditioning, I’d expect him to backup SD at center for maybe 12 minutes per half. I expect situational rotations for the PF’s. And, I expect to see a little less iso as part of the offensive scheme.

They liked him before enough to give him a contract, guaranteed or not

and if they waive Jackson, they’ll need someone to fill the 13th roster spot. Sloan is already getting the league min, so why drop him and try to find someone else who’ll sit on the bench for min money. Besides Sloan is a combo guard like Beno, so it gives PW some additional flexibility in his lineups.

When he is getting subbed out: “And Pooh has to come out…right now.”

If he gets dunked on: “He threw it down on Pooh with authority!”

If someone is unsure of who scored: “When it looks like Pooh, it must be Pooh.”

If he loses by a large margin: “Well, I hate to say it, but Pooh has been blown out.”

While playing good D and being active: “Pooh seems to be everywhere!”

When he is being out-played: “That guy is eating Pooh up.”
