Ryan Thompson Invited to Kings' Training Camp
I did a little digging (oh hell, who am I kidding, I just asked Ryan over twitter), but it appears the Kings have invited Ryan Thompson to training camp this fall. In his own words:
"Yes, but I am still seeing what decision is best for me."
This likely means he's considering offers from foreign teams (for example, Wayne Chism turned down his camp invite to play in Turkey) or perhaps playing in the NBA D-League.
Whatever the case, the Kings are definitely interested in Ryan, and I'd personally rather have him make the team than Donald Sloan (who according to ShamSports only has $10,000 of his contract guaranteed, meaning the Kings can cut him during camp for almost nothing), who was unimpressive to me in Summer League.
Of the Kings' Summer League team, Sylven Landesberg (Israel), Tyrese Rice (Germany), Devan Downey (Turkey) and Wayne Chism (Turkey) have signed with foreign teams. The only other player from the Kings Summer League team who I think would've (and probably should've) gotten an invite to Training Camp is Dionte Christmas.
The Kings' roster currently stands at 14 (with Sloan), a number the Kings usually like to stay at. They're only required to have 13 players but most likely they'll add that 14th player at a minimal cost.
UPDATE: As Mark from ShamSports mentions in the Comments below, its also highly possible that Ryan received a training camp offer from another team. Also, according to Dionte Christmas's twitter, he hasn't decided what he wants to do yet, meaning he also likely has a few offers on the table (no word on if the Kings are one of them, although I did ask. I'll update if he responds)

Maybe he doesn't pass up the opportunity to play with JT

Soon, we may be seeing both of them in Kings jerseys.

If you want to be your best, you have to do your best, otherwise you are only second rate.
Excellent!
I really liked what I saw from Ryan during summer league. He always played with good hustle and excellent basketball I.Q.. He just seemed to be very, very solid in all phases of the game. Nothing spectacular, but the kind of guy you want on your team.
nice
I think he should take it. Playing pro ball with your bro …. and he can shoot. He’s gotta take it.
This is great.
I agree. I would much rather have him than Donald Sloan. It will be a good thing to have Ryan on the team with his brother.

What it likely means is that someone else offered him a training camp spot too.

I love the optimism,
And I will say that Thompson was solid at best in Summer League. However, there will be a lot more open looks playing next to a point guard in Tyreke or Beno than playing next to Donald Sloan.
However, I am still not opposed to throwing a one year unguaranteed deal at Sasha Pavlovic as well and seeing a little competition for the backup shooting guard spot.

How dare you imply that we cut Darth Knell.

Or perhaps his nickname should be Death Knell.
Cause if he’s in the game, we’ve either already won or already lost.

I tried to find highlights of "Death Knell" in the NBA....

The roster number is an interesting strategy
The Kings have money – they have met the minimum (I am guessing, please correct me if you are wrong) the next question is:
Do they A) pick up a spare part in case they need it, B) a project to see if it works out or C) leave room for a future acquistion (which may recquire room for two – i.e. you take Harpring and his contract we will give you Eric Maynor as part of the deal)?
I think they are within 500000 of minimum
and may be at it…I’m assuming Jeter is at 500k and then Wright would need to be about 1.6 mil. I have not seen the salaries for these 2. That does not count Sloan but does count Jackson.

Someone explain to me what reply means.

With Jeter on board
I do not know how much Christmas chances are influenced. They roughly seem to fill the same needs.
I’d like them to give Ryan Thompson a chance.
Dunking Dutchman
Pooh Jeter is a 5'10 PG, Dionte Christmas is a 6'5 SG.
I would say they fill different needs.

Patty Mills and Pooh Jeter do fit a similar need. Don’t argue about it.

Rather have Pooh though.
And the reason is he’s likely to be more productive in a 3rd PG role than Patty Mills.
