46

And yes, I remembered Evers Burns. But I tried about 13 names for Jason Sasser (never did get it right), and the pre-Petrie 2nd rounders is where I fell short.

darn you

I got 45 because I spent too much time writing Olivier St Jean and thought I spelled it wrong. I admit to guessing a bit because you can get by with last names (which I didn’t figure out until there was just over 3 minutes left and while writing williamson it got Walt’s name before I could finish it) so I started smithing and johnsoning. My personal triumphs were bodiroga, dickau and pendergraph. The draft numbers helped in some cases, confused in others.
In tribute to Section I did write Joe’s name first and will give him the credit for my getting Mr. Burns.
MIssed Sasser, Minard, Roberston, Edwards and some others that if I re-took the test I would probably miss again.

Thanks Aykis, Thanks TZ for some challenging bit of fun.

Tariq. Abdul. Wahad.

But his French name was Olivier Saint-Jean. Yes, I’m that big of a doofus.

Okay, I resorted to Google-ing

and I remain confused. Wikipedia has the 1997 draft as Tariqu Abdul Wahad but basketballreference.com has Olivier Saint Jean. The bte Rumor Mill has it that when he understood that the Kings might draft him he would be thought of as the past Kings GM, then Warriors GM’s son and so he found religion and changed his name.

He was Olivier Saint-Jean when he was drafted.

I got 41

Missed Jeffers and Edwards from the left side, and then a slew of errors on the right. Big brain fart missing Simmons and Funderburke.

I should have had alternate spellings for some names

Which one you mess up on?

Did pretty awful

I’d like to blame it on my son, who started throwing a fit halfway through. That wouldn’t be fair, though, because there were only 10 more I might have gotten. Maybe. Perhaps.

It wouldn't let me get Jeff Pendergraph!

But I deserve no love after forgetting Peja. I got 15/54. I only would have gotten like 4 more if I would have eaten the breakfast I WANTED! THANKS WIFE! NOOOOT!

I will always remember Minard

Because I remember the day of that draft, the Bee was touting Minard as the guy the Kings would take in the first round, so I thought it was funny when we passed and got him in second

And besides, “Martin and Minard” has kind of a catchy flow to it.

Because I’m not old enough to remember anything older than ‘07. It wouldn’t let me enter Brockman, though. I thought it was just screwing with me, so I tried Jon Brockman, Brockman, Brockness, and Pancakes and it still wouldn’t take it. That made me sad. I would’ve had a whole eight people right. What’s your quiz got against the Brockness Monster, Aykis?

by PurpleLoco on Sep 12, 2010 12:37 PM PDT reply actions

Technically the Kings drafted Pendergraph and traded his rights to Portland for Sergio Rodriguez and Jon Brockman.

So in the annals of history Brockman was drafted by Portland then traded to the Kings on draft night.

Yeah. It's sort of a tricky one there.

Quite a few guys we drafted that didn’t play for us after we drafted them. Billy Owens traded for Mitch Richmond, Dan Dickau traded to Atlanta, etc.

I don’t remember the details of Owens for Richmond, but it seems to me like Dickau and Pendergraph are different situations. In Dickau’s case, we drafted him then later decided to trade him. In Pendergraph’s case, we decided to trade down earlier the same day, then chose Brockman knowing the pick would be ours. I’m guessing that if we hadn’t agreed to trade down earlier in the day, we wouldn’t have gone through with it once we saw that DeJuan Blair was still on the board at 31.

by twasserm on Sep 13, 2010 12:45 PM PDT up reply actions

Dickau

I believe what happened there is that the Hawks(?) had the rights to a present/future pick, and when Dickau was available, the Hawks had him selected on their behalf.

Got 44 outta 54. Mostly missed 2nd rounders in the 80's and early 90's.

Randy Brown, Mike Peplowski and Vinny Del Negro (all players I knew played for the Kings) were the worst ones I missed. Oh well. No 1st rounders of note were missed and that makes me a bit happy.

Only been a Kings fan since about 1992, when I was only about 9 years old. So, most of the 2nd rounders/picks prior to 1992 were trouble for me.

by CloudyEyes on Sep 12, 2010 5:54 PM PDT reply actions

I managed 33

and I lucked into most of them (thanks to common last names and Section’s time traveling).

I wasted most of my time trying to spell Ricky Rubio.

This.

i dont spell names well lol

i know who they are but remembering how to spell their name is a different task all together wow i did real bad because of that

Got 17

Only 18 years old so i don’t have much memory of the early to mid 90s teams so i only got one right before 1995..Pervis Ellison. I think i remember Jerry talk about him once and never forgot the name because i mean really, how can anyone forget a player with a name like that?

by Josh L on Sep 14, 2010 12:19 AM PDT reply actions

Got 41

The only one I feel dumb for missing is Funderburke.

My most obscure one right was Evers Burns. I only remember him because my old basketball coach was a D1 prospect till he blew out his knee and after we drafted Burns, he griped that even with 1 bum knee he could still make the Kings roster over Burns.

by SPTSJUNKIE on Sep 14, 2010 12:22 AM PDT reply actions

Can't believe I missed

Corliss, Hurley, and Hedo. For shame.

Tried for a while to input “Del Negro” but it didn’t work for me.

Also felt bad missing Randy Brown, as I always liked his defensive hustle when we had none.

On the plus side – EVERS BURNS! Thanks to section214 for reminding me of that one.

Tom from Woodland is my hero
