The US is blowing by Tunisia

late in the second half.

The Tunisians actually kept it close until halftime (49:43).

Now it’s 82:55 with about 2:30 left in the game. Eric Gordon leads all players with 21 points.

Nice to see the bench play better

Gordon finding his touch again and Curry getting some time will help in the next round.

That's a way to look at it

It would have been embarrassing if the US bench couldn’t get on track against Tunisia, with all due respect.

They have been pretty crappy IMO

For the firepower they have on the bench they have been pretty flat. I am just trying to find a positive with is since not much else happened in the game.

Spain beat Canada 89-67

In other games played

Ivory Coast surprised Puerto Rico (88-19) and Australia are on their way to beat Angola.

Was it 88-79, or perhaps 88-69?

Because 88-19 sounds like a tough game to watch.

LOL

88 – 79. Sorry

This Greece-Russia game might be a game you want to lose

Winner gets Spain. Then again, Spain has been playing like crap.

How about that Greek pride?

Don’t they want to win every game?

I’m not sure it’s a smart move. Spain hasn’t looked that great yet.

I'm expecting a low scoring game

Hahaha

Cousins is good but he's no mana from heaven.

Moral couldn't be lower in Greece

it’s the first time in years the team looks so disconnected, unorganized. The players seem to realize it game by game.

Doesn't help that Greece's economy is in the crapper

Low morale in that entire country.

OK this is embarrassing

Russia’s coach just said in the press conference that he’s ashamed of Greece and they way they lost intentionally.

One more reminder why I don’t watch local Greek and European basketball and I’m all about NBA. At least in the NBA they call it tanking :P

by ZenBaller on Sep 2, 2010 10:53 AM PDT reply actions

Did they really do it on purpose?

Cousins is good but he's no mana from heaven.

Probably.

Yes

The coach denied it at the press conference but later said that the team was pressured by the Greek Confederation.

And as always, cowardliness leads nowhere. New Zealand made a huge upset against France and now Greece plays Spain in the next round. LOL!

by ZenBaller on Sep 2, 2010 1:17 PM PDT up reply actions

Great win by the Tall Blacks...

who aren’t that tall (their starting centre against France would be 6’6). Somehow New Zealand always gets it done at these tournaments (making the round of 16 the last three times, coming fourth in 2002).

Greece is probably going to lose too.

FRA-TUR
ESP-GRE
ARG-BRA

should be interesting

And on the seventh day

StR took a rest?

Spain up 37-31 at the half.

In the early game, Serbia beats Croatia 73-72, in a game were no team managed to take a big lead. Very tight game. Nenad Krstic lead Serbia with 16 points along with 3 rebounds. Popovic kept Croatia in it with an outstanding game, 21 points, 5 rebounds, 5 assists.

I watched this game

lots of whistles. It seemed that this was more about the FTs at the end.

by betweentheeyes on Sep 4, 2010 1:24 PM PDT up reply actions

In both games

one team had a smallish lead in the final minutes. So the other team fouled to stop the clock. It happens in the NBA as well, I believe. Under FIBA rules the shot clock is 30 seconds, not 24, which makes fouling even a bit moe important.
