Marcus Landry Trying Out for the Kings
Add Marcus Landry to the Sacramento Kings' massive audition at the wing position, as FanHouse's Scott Schroeder reports the small forward is in town and will break camp with the team Monday.
The second-year free agent out of Wisconsin, who happens to be the younger brother of Kings forward Carl Landry, played for Sacramento's 2009 Vegas Summer League squad, and played well. He played with the Knicks and Celtics last season, spending a spell with the Maine Red Claws of the D-League as well.
He's billed as a physical defender and a spot-up shooter. Those happen to be qualities the Kings are looking for with the wing vacancy. Landry will compete with Donald Sloan, Luther Head, J.R. Giddens and Joe Crawford for what would assume to be the final roster spot available. (The Kings could keep two of the players, or even three if Darnell Jackson is waived. I doubt the Kings will carry more than 14 players, though, and Jackson is No. 13.)

Geoff Petrie must be reading Carl Landry's tweets
"Titanic. When DiCaprio is trying to save the young lady, that was dope. When she tries to save him, and he dies, that was dope too. That whole situation was tragic. When I saw the baby in the water, frozen? I cried a little, but mostly I was pissed. I'd just had my daughter, so when I saw that frozen baby, I was like, "What the f -- !? That's bull -- !" -Ron Artest talking about his favorite movie.
A family affair
We should have had both Jason Thompson and Carl Landry’s little bro’s.
I didn't major in Common F-cking Sense, but ...
Training camp starts on Monday?
That means the season is just around the corner! I can’t wait to watch the kings again.
"For five decades (and counting), these fans have been blessed with West, Baylor, Wilt, Kareem, Magic, Shaq and Kobe. Seven of the 15 best players ever. At some point, the gravy train will end. The Lakers will bottom out like the Knicks did last decade, submarined by bad moves, poor signings and unlucky drafts. Their fans will flee in droves. Jack will pass away. The buzz will be gone. That's how the NBA works -- in a 30-team league, you can't always get lucky, not even if you're a big-market team with deep pockets. I don't know if that day is three years off or 30, but it's coming." Bill Simmons

Maybe a couple more "high rollers" dropping a couple of bucks trying to impress some ladies at the craps table?
Not a bad idea for the Maloofs, actually.

Landry and Giddens have a history, of sorts
Landry was signed as a free agent by the New York Knicks. September 25, 2009
Then after playing in only 17 games, on February 18, 2010 New York Knicks traded Nate Robinson and Marcus Landry to the Boston Celtics for Eddie House, J.R. Giddens, Bill Walker and a future conditional second-round pick.
Now, they’re fighting each other for the professional lives.
Side note: Boston has this listed under Landry’s Scouting Report:
Assets: Brings a high-energy, high-motor approach to the floor. A good leaper who takes high-percentage shots. Hustles and does the little things. Can hit the three.
Flaws: Not a big scorer. While a solid defender he’s not a big stat-sheet guy.
Career Potential: Solid swingman off the bench.
Sounds like a solid third string backup, who could develop down the road into a decent defensive backcourt mate for Evans. And, who knows, having his brother on the squad might be an added incentive for Carl to resign with the Kings.

Being a diehard Wisconsin fan
I was a huge fan of his during the college years. But he fit very well into that system (lockdown defense, low scoring = wins). He played C/PF primarily in college so I don’t know how the adjustment has gone to swingman.
While a solid defender he’s not a big stat-sheet guy.
I think this is even underrating his defensive performance (at least in college). He play great D in the post, but again, the swingman role might be a challenge.

“AHA! See, I’m not the only one who thinks it’s a good idea to hoard wing players!”

“Non-guaranteed? You can do that? Training camp… I see… consider my ‘AHA!’ withdrawn. Carry on.”

I'm on Team Bowler Hat
Heck, I was for adding Landry last year after that Summer League performance.

Yeah I remember.
And you weren’t alone. I still don’t think it matters unless someone just blows up on a ridiculous level and there is a completely unpolished gem the Kings manage to get lucky with.

Wouldn't be surprised if they did.
And I wouldn’t be too upset if they kept him on for another year.

Ime is listed as a (FA) Free Agent with no number assigned
ShamSport is showing the the Kings are charged with a Cap Hold of $850K for Ime which is probably why he’s still listed on the roster for now.

He's trying out with the Bulls
Not sure if he’ll be in Bulls camp or is just working out there in advance of camp, trying to get an invite or a deal.
So, any family members of players left to invite?
I heard Greene’s uncle once hit a half time show midcourt shot, somewhere in the 80’s. Maybe he’s the solution to ouroutside shooting problems.
