Look again
His career FG% is .423.
He had one crazy year from 3, averaging .441, but in all the other seasons, he never averaged more than .370 3P%.
He may be better than Sloan (probably) and may regain sonme shooting touch with a change of scenery. A long-term solution for our coveted long range backcourt player, he is not.
Dunking Dutchman
No need to look again, friend
I stated fact. He shot much better than 39% one year, and from much worse to slightly worse in other years. You’ll notice that for most shooters.
I agree he’s not a long-term solution — just a shooter to plug in, which is what the team has wanted.

I like Luther
I liked his maturity coming out of Illinois, he showed some promise with the Rockets and has that shooter’s mentality of knocking down some clutch/dagger shots. I think he’s a much better fit over Sloan, especially w/ Pooh as the 3rd PG. Great fit IMO.
Dannyboy
he's good.
surprised he’s out there and available unless there is an injury or other circumstance I don’t know about
Dannyboy
Actually....
He’s also been a pretty good distributor for a 2, and is an okay defender as well.
He compare favorably in almost every category to a STR fave Roger Mason, Jr.

Head > Pooh
In all aspects
Cousins is good but he's no mana from heaven.

They're different players
Head is better than Sloan however. Probably much better.

oh yeah, gimme some Head
It ain’t Wright, and we aren’t talkin’ Pooh, but the Kings aren’t Sloan’ down in the backcourt.

He might make the team
Or he might get a better offer to play overseas once he shows what he can do in the preseason. I think he could contribute but I don’t really like the way he plays. From what I remember of seeing him in Houston, he’s got kind of a frantic style. He always seems like he’s in a rush with the ball, whether it’s looking for a shot/pass or getting to a spot on the floor. He wouldn’t be needed for much but I would be worried about an emergency situation where him and Garcia would be on the floor together.
I think he can make the team.
They usually like to run 14 deep, and thats where the Kings are with Sloan, and I doubt Sloan beats out Head, especially when Head’s shooting fills a big need and now Jeter on board.

To piggyback
The camp depth chart would be:
Udrih / Jeter / Sloan
Evans / Garcia / Head
Casspi / Greene / Wright
Landry / Thompson / Whiteside / Jackson
Dalembert / Cousins
I think Jackson is an early cut, which takes it to 14. If you want to go down to 13 or keep a different camp invite (or sign another team’s cut — like perhaps Ryan Thompson), it’d be between Sloan and Head, the two unguaranteed contracts.
Is carrying 13 better for trade flexibility?
A trade may not come, and with unguaranteed contracts maybe a guy can get cut at anytime, but with the Kings overall low pay scale – bobbing barely above the minimum – they can accept more money than the give out but can’t hold more than 15 players.
Any suggestions on roster strategy?

Doesn't matter too much
Even if the back-of-the-rotation guys have guaranteed contracts, you’ll eat a few hundred thousand to make a major trade.
You’d probably prefer to hold 13 if you think you’ll do Maynor-like trades.
In the Beno is not a SG camp
If Cisco starts, Reke is the PG.

In all honesty...
With the lack of backcourt depth this team still has, combined with the overall lack of outside shooting, Head has a VERY good chance at sticking and maybe even getting some minutes.

i remember him
when he was on the rockets with aaron brooks. the rocks stuck with aaron because he had more of a pg’s game, compared to head’s

Head was a 4 yr man at Illinois where Mrs Tops went to school, so we know a little about him
the 1st three years he played along with Deron Williams, so was able to to play the sg. In his senior year with Williams gone, Head had his best season shooting 75% of his shots from beyond the arc at a better than 40% clip. He was an above average shooter with above average athleticism. But, he is a catch & shoot player rather than a put the ball on the floor and create a shoot off the dribble. If he did put it on the floor he was more than likely to take it to the rim because of his amazing leaping ability.
On defense he was a very good defender because of his athleticism. Good quickness, good wingspan . But because of his 6-3 height, he didn’t do well against bigger and stronger SG’s.
He really didn’t show any real pg skills but he did play behind Williams for 3 years, so. Then he got drafted by Houston who really didn’t need another pg, so. I don’t see him at anything other than a undersized shooter with no pg skills so he’s not going to beat out Jeter. But, I can see him replacing Sloan. He’s a better defender than Beno, but doesn’t have Beno’s ball handling skills, and there’s no way he beats out Cisco who’s better in every sg category plus has size.
With Cisco, Beno and Tyreke able to play minutes at the 2, I don’t know where Head gets any minutes barring injury. If it were up to me to decide I’d rather see Beno get the minutes at the 2 over Head, and let Jeter pick up Beno’s minutes at the 1. I see him as a cheap 3rd string backup against the possiblity of Beno reverting to his 2008 form. But, he really isn’t the multi positional type player that GP likes on his bench.

Ha ha!
To a non-guaranteed deal. Meanwhile, you guys are trying out Mustafa Shakur(!) and paying Emeka Okafor $52 million – no wonder CP3 wants out of NOLA.
Thanks for checking in.

Pretty sure
That’s exactly what “way too bad” means.
Anyways, looks like I wildly overrated the impact of Head’s failed New Orleans physical on the collective psyche of the blogosphere. Rookie mistake. As you were, gentlemen.
Actually, there was an article about it on the front page for over a week and we all had a lenghty and often heated discussion about it.

Sophomore season highlights of Luther Head
Link here. Solid signing for the team, especially for a non-guaranteed contract at the minimum which feels a certain need.
Pooh-Head
Best signing possible.
Considering we already have half the Rockets team we might as well sign another ex-Rocket player. Head had some good moments in his rookie and sophomore seasons.
For the price...
For the price, it’s worth a look. I think he’ll do well in the Kings offense.
Landry
And did Landry have something to do with this? They did play together..
Can we stop with this already.
NBA players get around. They play a lot of places. A team is composed of players with completely different backgrounds. Thus, when two players share a history, and end up on the same team, it is almost always a coincidence. But to assert that the fourth most valuable team asset is influencing roster additions is asinine.
Not to pick on you in particular, Hapasan. But the “Hey Omri got Pooh signed because of their Maccabi connection” and “JT got RT on the summer roster b/c they’re brothers” and “Brockman wasn’t resigned because Hawes was no longer here” and “We gave Garcia a big extension so that we could sign Al Horford when he becomes an UFA” and the “Cousins was signed to talk Wall into stonewalling the Wizards into trading him to Sacramento” and… okay, I made up the last two. But wouldn’t that be sweet?
What am I doing? I’m continuing the trend I intended to stop. This is not good. This is terrible. Turrrible. Speaking of which, didn’t the Kings hire Bill Walton in order to sign Luke when his 6 year deal is up? And isn’t Gray on the roster to get Lebron to do an interview in Sacramento with Arnold?

The funny thing is
I think there’s truth to a couple of those. I’m pretty sure I remember reading about Spencer wanting the Kings to pick up Brockman in the second round. And, JT being on our team really helped Ryan’s chances of landing a Summer League roster. JT may not have been directly involved, but his presence probably helped.
Also, don’t forget the beast that was Daniel Artest playing for the Kings Summer League team thanks to his brother Ron’s demands!
I blocked that out of my mind.
