The Internet rumor mill mentioned the Kings as a player in the sudden trade drama surrounding Carmelo Anthony of Denver drama. The Kings have salary cap space but have not made any trade inquiries, according to Kings president Geoff Petrie.

In a related story,
the Kings made no inquiries prior to trading for Samuel Dalembert, Carl Landry, Donté Greene…
With the exception of the Artest/Stojakovic deal, I can’t recall a KIngs deal being discussed in the media before it actually happened. Maybe there was a little forecasting that Bibby could wind up in Miami or Atlanta, but that’s about it.
There is no way that Petrie is going to confirm or deny conversations – or least you can’t take him at his word. Interesting that Petrie wasn’t actually quoted here, though I’m not sure that a direct quote would be more/less belivable.
I think that the Nuggets will begin the season with ‘Melo, as they will find out that the offers for an expiring player looking to break the bank prior to what could be an NBA lockout wiil be less than what they were hoping for. I see the Nugs loading it up for one last try at the title, with the default position of unloading the roster at the deadline if the season isn’t panning out for them.

This is true re: Petrie
If the Nuggets do put ’Melo on the market, the Clips will be willing to give up Eric Gordon, most likely. And the Nets will be willing to give up Derrick Favors, probably. A package with those players will be more than the Kings will want to do. Unless the Nuggets want cap relief first and foremost, which could be the case, we are long shots. This does not even address the possibility of an extension.
I do think the Nuggets would be foolish to enter into the season with Melo on their roster, though, if he refuses $65 million that was available to him all summer. If he gives every indication to management he’s not there for the long term, they need to move him before season starts.
I predict JT puts up 7/5 next year.
thats true but its not like the trades have been totally out of the blue and unexpected
when the Kings were trading away Bibby and Brad Miller and the others, was it not apparent that they were rebuilding and looking to get rid of their veterans and their contracts.
I
t also seemed like Ron Artest would have to be traded and was expected to get traded
On Sactown Royalty it was widely believed and discussed that Kevin Martin would get traded some time sooner rather than later.
I know that these trades maybe weren’t discussed by media and we didn’t predict that that exact trade would happen. But you had to expect some players to be traded
Per Kevin Martin
That trade caught everyone off-guard (including, if we’re to believe league rumors, many other GMs who had been told Martin was not available).
There were a lot of people who wanted to trade K-Mart on StR and there were even more who didn’t. But we’re not Geoff Petrie.

thats really true, 214
the kings are really good at keeping that trade talks out of the media’s hands. whatever they do, im happy with it. but be sure that if we do somehow get anthony, their was a lot of foresight and caluclation involved in making the decision. im sure a lot of people were shaking their heads at the artest/23rd pick/greene/jackson a few years back, but its looking like a good trade now
You should really go back and read some of the 10 other mello threads..asking that is a loaded question because everyone thinks different.. What it mostly seems to have come down to is
Jt or Landry, Casspi or Donte, 1st rounder and 2nd rounder…At least thats what i have averaged everyone elses out to be. Now if the trade we
Landry, Donte, 1st non protected and a 2nd rounder- Bring on the mello for me..Landry is a bigger name for teams and especially I think the nuggets want him over JT for the scoring
BTW here are the other threads:
It’s worth exploring, at the very least
Founder of team Omté Caspeen
No offense at all just letting you know..I know about 1/2 people want him and 1/2 dont and the half that want him it depends on what we have to give up

I didnt think you came across as harsh at all.
And you pretty much summed it up.

Give up any Hope, of signing him.
Denver has no power to force a deal. Melo is the one who’s going to dictate where he goes. And, if that team has nothing to offer, Denver will ask for as much as they can and take what their giving. Cle got squat and Tor got two 1st round draft picks that will surely be only slightly better than first pick 2nd rounders. And, Utah & Phoenix got nothing at all for their stars.
If Melo for some unknown reason decided he wants to come to Sacramento and only Sacramento, the Kings would have to give up something to get the deal done this season. But, they’re not going to give up much more than a young talent, next years 1st rounder and cap space. Melo isn’t going to want them to rape the team of talent to bring him in and end up making Denver the better team. If were to happen, what’s the use of coming here. He’d be better off signing the contract extention from Denver.

I'm not hoping they trade for him
Because i really doubt he’d want to come here to Sacramento. I was just asking a simple question.
You've been around long enough to know that I don't give simple answers.
I think Melo is one of the few stars that I would consider adding to our young team. I don’t believe Melo has said specificly why he hasn’t accepted Denver’s extention offer. Although there is the situation where his wife wants go get back into TV. But, maybe he’s looking for a longer extention prior to the new CBA or maybe he just wants a ring. If it’s the ring he wants probably going to the East right now wouldn’t be the best choice. Because no one there looks to be as good as Miami. At least in the West he can make it to the championship game. But, if this move is dictated by his wife’s needs, look for him to end up in NY or LA.
There are only a few teams in the West that would be a good fit for CA. In the Northwest, Denver & maybe Utah if they could afford him. But, OKC doesn’t need a SF, and Por style of play is too slow and is more defensive in nature. In the SW, NOH for sure, alone with Houston and the Spurs. But in the Pacific there’s probably only the Clippers & Kings. If you look at who’s most likely to win a championship right away with Carmelo on the team, I’d have to go with Utah, the Rockets and the Spurs. So, if getting the ring is his top priority then he should go to one of them. But, if you look at who has the talent to dominate for years to come, I’d say the Clips and the Kings.
