Sacramento Kings, but for how much longer? After the Maloofs came out and said all offers are on the table everyone jumped to the conclusion they are listening to offers from other cities. I heard that statement and took it a step further, I think they are listening to offers to sell the team. Looking at the financial situation the Maloofs have taken the last three years it just makes sense to sell a sports team that quite honestly will be lucky to break even.

Moving the team for owners that are struggling financially makes no sense too. The cost of moving is believed to be $150 million (give or take) (including the other costs of location rights (if they move to LA or San Jose because of the other teams in those areas) and the general cost of moving a business). Then consider they also have an outstanding 68 million dollar loan with the city of Sacramento. That is not chump change, especially to people who are having to sell off a lot of their other business ventures.

So while I guess it is possible that they move the team I just don't think the move makes sense. However when you have a billionaire in the bay trying like crazy to buy a team in Ellison, then there is a scenario that makes sense. The Maloofs may even keep a small percentage in the team if Ellison took over. But what would that look like? Eveyone immediately thinks "San Jose Kings". I say not so fast.

It may even be a good think for Sacramento. Just because Ellison buys the team doesn't exactly mean he will move them down the road. If Sacramento pulls out an arena deal in the late hours it may make more sense for Ellison to keep the team here. A new arena, less competition from the Warriors, a fan base that in the past supported the team. It's not a long stretch for Ellison to come north from the Bay to watch the team play. Plus Ellison is a guy with deep pockets. He's a guy that would pull deals to land good players, not cut salaries, which of course make Petrie's job much easier.

So although I think we all worry a bit about the potential of loosing our team, the fact the Maloofs are listening to ALL OFFERS could actually be the best thing for this team.
