KIngs played some outstanding D in the second half
Even though the Lakers made the big run, the Kings made them work for just about every bucket and it wore them out in the end.
I also like how Tyreke took it to the hole late after he got trapped in the corner instead of trying to burn clock. He got two free throws and a charge, but better to be aggressive than try to play not to win.
"Remember now, patience and stop the whining. This is something we have to endure to get better. We have no choice. Stick with Petrie, stick with Westphal, stick with Tyreke, stick it to the fans."
Cousins had some terrific defensive moments
Its perhaps the most surprising area of his game to me. I thought he’d be a complete sieve, but he uses his length and feet well. He just needs more experience.

I am absolutely in the same boat as you
I seriously thought he was going to be like Al Jefferson on the defensive side. And I knew he had length. I knew it but at the same time for whatever reason I didn’t really see it. The guy doesn’t even look like he is exerting himself half the time but he just soaks up space and for whatever reason seems to use his leverage really well. I dunno if it’s because bigs today can’t score down low like they used to or if he just has some secret 6th sense down there and just uses the freak arms but whatever it is it’s working.
Very surprising.

and that D is frightening when it’s going, it worked.

Omri isn't bad
when he completely focuses on his man in man-to-man defense.
It’s when he leaves his man to position himself for help D when things get problematic (and fighting through picks).
Dunking Dutchman - betting that Omri will have at least 12 games with 85% TS% this season.
The Kings in the second half
did a great job generally of doubling Kobe and clogging up the middle and making Shannon Brown and Steve Blake be the guys that beat you. They made some shots after they started making combo passes, but I think they had to work to get those buckets and they got pooped out in the end. Not sure why Fisher was not playing for the Lakers in crunch time.
I thought Westphal did a good job of mixing Cousins in and out of the lineup in the fourth to keep him fresh for crunch time. His D was a difference at the end.
"Remember now, patience and stop the whining. This is something we have to endure to get better. We have no choice. Stick with Petrie, stick with Westphal, stick with Tyreke, stick it to the fans."

That's the single shocking thing I've seen from DMC.
And, I gotta give the coaching staff a lot of credit for that. They are doing their best to get him to be a high level defensive big on that end. If anything, where DMC has underwhelmed is on the low block. Didn’t think that would be his problem in the NBA.

It’s called ‘’Jack and Jill.’’ This is the second time I remember something like this happening. When they were filming “Be Cool” the Kings also won that game. Two Kings wins immortalized in two mediocre movies.

And FWIW Rhondda
I thought this was Cuz’s game well beyond the numbers. He changed shots inside, grabbed tough boards out of traffic, changed several shots by Bynum and Gasol (not easy to do), and in general played “big”. He hit a lot of outside shots, but many of them were so wide open it was really worth him taking them in a lot cases.
Fun game to watch as the kids start to put it together. This is the type of payoff for all the tough losses I guess.

No mistakes in the tango, Donna. Not like life. Simple. That's what makes the tango so great. If you make a mistake, and get all tangled up, you just tango on.....
If Omri has 12 games with 85+ TS% (20+ mins only) on the season, I will send RikSmits a slice of Cherry Pie with real Californian cheese pasteurized locally in Washington state.
what I find interesting....even tho' I didn't see the game & only heard some parts on the radio...
Is when things come together when the players seem especially motivated to win. The Kings at the garden, an example. Tonight an LA example.
If the Kings played every team like the Knicks & the lakers, heck & gosh darn, all the sudden you might have yourself a pretty good little team.

These could be the two cornerstones
"Remember now, patience and stop the whining. This is something we have to endure to get better. We have no choice. Stick with Petrie, stick with Westphal, stick with Tyreke, stick it to the fans."
Cuz & Reke are the cornerstones.
I’m not going to fight you on your agenda anymore. Waste of both our times. You don’t like Tyreke which I find ironic given all the energy you devoted to Artest. But that’s your deal and not mine.

They all have to prove themselves.
If we get one TRUE cornerstone, we’ll be lucky. A lot of it is luck, getting the opportunity, staying healthy, etc.

So they overcame bad shooting nights from their starting guards
and still beat the world champions.
Shows just how much we were dominating them in the paint, plus Omri was outstanding. And none of his buckets was more key than his tip-in of Tyreke’s miss late in the game. His rebounding is really improving.

I really don't want
the kings to make a deadline deal unless it obviously improves our team. I will be really pissed off if they do a move to lower their budget. This team is really coming together, and I am interested to see how they finish.

Just so you know Rygo
There is a minimum salary cap, and the Kings are barely above it (about a million dollars right now). They risk losing out on a lot of money by going under that minimum cap line, and thus won’t make a deal to take them below it.
In otherwords, you can’t just trade Landry for a draft pick. That would take the Kings below the minimum line.

I volunteer to be paid the 3 million to keep the Kings above the minimum.
Glad to do it.
This.

Got back from the game a little while ago...
and just wanted to say that this was the 1st live Kings game I had seen since last year at Arco, Kings .vs. Magic…..
And wow, OMRI and DeMarcus looked very very good tonight. I also kept getting confused as to why Dalembert kept taking shots, but they seemed to be dropping for him as well tonight. Great game all around.
2 thoughts:
1.) What happened to Jason Thompson, did he get hurt or something? I actually ended up loving the rotation Westphal ran out there during the start of the 2nd half…hope he keeps the rotation tight and lets them play.
2.) Sadly, Kobe moved past my favorite player of all-time tonight on the all-time NBA career scoring list. … 8.) Kobe Bryant 26,972 9.) Hakeem Olajuwon 26,946

AAAAAA!!!!!
::still happydancing::
I noticed a severe case of rampant something or other tonight…Garnett’s backhand to Channing Frye’s bits and the ensuing almost-rumble, the Hawks and Knicks’ duelling Williamses, and Gasol trying to get his snippy on with DMC. Moon phase?
Any time the kings win – especially over the Lakers – I’m a happy, happy girl!!
I believe we should credit Shammy Sammy D
I was watching him at about 3 possessions , jumper after jumper, for a while i was like " nooooo, don’t take that jumper, but he prove me wrong coz all i see was “Swooshhh after swoosh” ….please duplicate the wins by BEATING NEW ORLEANSSSSSSSS HORNETSSSSSSSSS TONIGHT!!!!!
I liked how Casspi wasn't taking no crap from Kobe.
Love his aggressiveness!
Omri's personality was built for this kind of game
Dude is seriously competitive and doesn’t feel the need to genuflect to anyone on the court.
