Note: This is a semi-joke post. Semi.
The Hawks vs. Kings game marks the 5th time that the legendary Bill Walton has joined Grant and Jerry at the commentator's table, and the second time at ARCO. Now I've always loved listening to Walton and the unfathomable amount(that's for you, Bill) of wisdom he possesses. He is a joy to listen to.
Now I typically watch the Kings games with my dad, and when the second quarter started, my father yelled several expletives at the sight of Walton joining the T.V. broadcast. I asked my dad what the problem was and he responded that every time Walton is doing T.V., the Kings do absolutely terrible. I told him that Walton is great to listen to and most people enjoy him being there. He then told me to do a plus/minus of Walton, so I decided to.
Now for those of you that have been paying attention, which since this is StR, is everyone, you know that Walton always does the second and third quarters on T.V. and the first and fourth on radio. So by checking out the box scores, you can see the plus/minus for the Walton quarters. Here's what I found:
November 12th, 2010 - Kings @ Suns - 1st/4th = -11 points , 2nd/3rd = -3 points
December 3rd, 2010 - Kings @ Lakers - 1st/4th = -8 points , 2nd/3rd = -25 points
December 6th, 2010 - Kings @ Clippers - 1st/4th = +13 points , 2nd/3rd = -20 points
December 11th, 2010 - Heat @ Kings - 1st/4th = +2 points , 2nd/3rd = -23 points
January 4th, 2011 - Hawks @ Kings - 1st/4th = +4 points , 2nd/3rd = -10 points
So with all five games added together, the first and fourth quarters come out to a plus/minus of 0 points. Not bad, not good. But with the second and third quarters, its a whole other story. The plus/minus is -81 points. Let me repeat that, -81 POINTS!! This is obviously a trend that needs to stop. Should we keep Walton on the radio? He has to be good to have around as a teacher and mentor, but the T.V. doesn't seem to be the right place for him.
I love ya Bill, but you're killin' us!
