Best win of the season IMO. While "The Shot’ was more exciting, and the Phoenix comeback was great too, this one was a wire-to-wire win against a good team.

Been awhile since I took an English class. I thought parentheticals were used when you don't directly quote but you reference.

So is it …

I say man up, take care for your fabric and get wooden hangers (carlsbadace, 2011).

Or is it …

As carlsbadace has already explained (2011) man up and take care of your fabric and wooden hangers.

I'm not in the video

though I did high-five with the guys in purple (3:09) walking through the mezzanine after the game.

I counted it down from 35 with the guys sitting next to me (all Bulls fans). At first, they were like, “yeah whatever” and then they were like, “wtf” and then they were like, “oh no” and then “oh shit no way, are we really tied” and then “no frickin way” and then I was screaming and they all went home quietly.

I waited afterward for the team bus to pull out and gave them a standing ovation as they drove out and away.

As far as Tyreke I think it's two things

One, teams are now having to defend DeMarcus which makes it much more difficult to key in on Tyreke as they were before. Two, whatever was weighing on him mentally is pretty much all that’s gone. Three, his foot’s gonna be an issue until it no longer is.

Obviously, 1 & 2 are the important factors here.

Suffice it to say that Pete Carrill disagrees with you.

Oh please.

That was hyperbole coming from Pete Carril. Whether it’s actually what he thinks makes little difference.

How the hell do YOU know what Carril meant?

Jesus you are full of yourself. Is it really so hard just to answer my questions without being a jerk? It isn’t even like I disagree with you all of the time. I don’t even disagree most of the time.

As Webber SAID that Carril called DMC “THE most talented individual he has ever encountered in basketball,” I’m not sure where you read hyperbole into that. I only raised it because you have an OPINION. I was just wondering what you based that opinion upon. Carril also has an OPINION. It is just one that most King fans hold in high esteem.

As to your question of where you raised your opinion as fact – you stated:

Indeed.
And, well, it’s worth reminding people since the Cuz hype will drown it out eventually: Tyreke is still the better player.

Sounded pretty definitive, thus my initial question regarding how you could know that at this point.

somehow turns into how irredeemably terrible the Kings are?

I’m usually not the type of guy that gets butt hurt over things, but seriously? The Kings won the game. Who cares if the Nuggets rolled over, how is that the Kings’ fault?

But upcoming road trip should give us a better idea of how good the kings are. Hopefully these last five or six games aren’t a fluke.

the thing that Westphal knows and Chuck won't acknowledge

is that the Kings are,‘t necessarily a really bad team, but that they are really young team. Westphal is definitely an old-school coach and most of the coaches from his generation hate playing rookies and young players. In Sacramento, Westphal doesn’t have any choice.

Which is the way you effectively rebuild and get that talent where it needs to be.

This is a young team that can and should get better. It’s all there for them depending on how bad they want it, and if you believe the media nonsense, Reke & DMC are those kinda players. You can build around them.

I don't see the team as becoming truly good until they get a floor leader.

DMC could grow into it, but Evans won’t. Free agency or a trade may be the only way to get this team on fire consistently.

Still time to sort that out.

I agree that the Kings still need a point guard

But Evans with 12 assists and 1 turnover is very encouraging

We just need another guard that can handle and create for others, no doubt about that

We can scream about this all we want (and this is a reply to sj & Eddie)

but positions matter a lot less. Duncan is a PF on the ballots and in reality plays both C & PF. Webber did the same thing. Yet, universally for a lot of people Duncan is a C and Webber is a PF. Does it really matter?

I think the same issue with Tyreke exists and worrying about whether he’s a 1, 2 or if you’re Ailene Voisin, a 3, is a matter of semantics that probably serve the purpose of how limited your scope on the game is.

Oh and on positions.

It matters how you play on the court, but what position you’re written into in the starting lineup is what position people quite often think you should “play” like.

I wouldn’t be mad if Reke & Beno were slated as the starting PF & C and DMC was the starting PG. It would piss a lot of people off at the very least.

I agree

It’s more of a mix of skills needed to make a team successful IMO. Don’t really care where Tyreke ‘plays’ as long as he has others on the court that complement them. Same with Cuz

I wrote something about this in a thread a while back. Using the numbers doesn’t make sense for this team — is Tyreke a 1 or a 2? is DeMarcus a 4 or a 5? imho you’re spot on that it’s totally irrelevant — what we need is complementary pieces: a guard who can shoot and play shutdown defense on the other team’s star pg, and another rebounding big, preferably with passing skills. then the 3 can be a 3. or whatever. ;)

Championship teams usually have unique players and players who don't fit into these narrow definitions.

Remember the Bulls teams of the 90’s? Who was the PG? Realistically it was Scottie Pippen. Yet, when you look at his position, he was listed as a SF.

This is why I don’t trust position titles and haven’t for a long time. MIke Bibby & Doug Christie were yet another prime example of why I don’t trust them.

It's the passing that has surprised me the most.

The fact that he is very cerebral helps a great deal too. I’m glad the Kings took him. And I’m glad he isn’t a ballhog in the Al Jefferson mold. That’s why I can’t stand Jefferson even a little: He just simply has no feel for what’s going on around him on the court. DMC does.

I also know that because the amount of data I get is incomplete, it can lead to total and off-base inaccuracies. It helps in moments like this.

thing that first surprised me about DMC in summer league was his passing

the next thing that surprised and impressed me was his footwork on defense. He had better footwork coming into the league then JT has after 2 1/2 years. Once I got past his immaturity, he started taking his game to the low post rather than the mid paint was how quickly he’s learned. He is a smart and driven kid who wants to get better and despite his problems with Westphal is really starting to get it. I thought the last game was huge, I still think it was the first game where Reke and DMC realized how good they could be playing together.

The last couple of games he has looked like what I’d expect him to.

He is finishing with authority and he looks worlds more confident. It seems weird that his demeanor has so suddenly changed. I hope it is resolution in whatever off-court issues have been occurring.

by Hoops Mike on Jan 6, 2011 11:15 PM PST reply actions

I don't think that is all that has been going on.

His PF was diagnosed as not very severe. Many good players have played through much worse. To me it has appeared like a mental thing. The foot partially explains his lack of first-step explosion, but not his decision-making, shooting, lay-up missing.

Regardless of the reason, I’m glad to see him coming back. A few more of these games and my fears will be greatly reduced.

I hope that we can win before every game.

I think any game is winnable. I think we can be neck-and-neck with anyone, if we play well and to our talent level, on any given night, including the Heat, and especially the Fakers, and certainly it would be fun to be in the arena during a close one regardless of whether we win or lose. It’s always more fun to be at the close games than the ones we’re getting destroyed at. I’ve been to a few of those, and it sucks. But really, I hate going to the great teams for two reasons: the bandwagon fans [I was surprised that Denver fans were there tonight, by the way], and, as of this season, the higher ticket prices.

I know that the Kings are still early in their development process

But based on potential alone, you can’t really get much better than the Kings. Petrie and the Maloofs have really done all they can to turn this team around, despite their reluctance to spend money (which has given them a ton of flexibility). I almost wish we could fast forward to next season because the room for improvement on this team both with their current players and cap space is huge. I was hoping to see a little more of Whiteside by now but I guess I can wait til next season hehe

was almost as important as the win. the win was fantastic and will only help build confidence the learning to get stops and not give up,playing tough and fighting back is a huge step for the team to take. You have to learn that lesson a bunch of times, but the fact that they can learn that lesson after what’s been a miserable season so far is one of the most important things they can learn from my viewpoint.

I was just reading the recap over at Yahoo sports and this was Westphal's 300th career win

and on that note, good night

Nice to see Beno working his way out of a slump

Only shot 40%, but did earn 8 free throws and hit them all, for 17 points on the night.

6 Kings in double figures scoring, nice, balanced attack tonight. Cisco’s 12 1st quarter points gave us the confidence to pull this one out I think, those threes were huge and the timing couldn’t have been better.
