SWEEEET! Let’s get a nice amnesty player.

Ten years is a long time - there is much calamity ahead for an NBA team. Keep this in the bank and be patient.
For a team like the Kings – the amnesty players available today are not desirable. Baron Davis, Rashard Lewis, Luke Walton, Gilbert Arenas hey, All I am saying is – I don’t even want to – give (MW) Peace a chance. There is a reason a bad contract is a bad contract.
Given the League’s GMs history there are too many bad contracts in the future to give away the amnesty clause at the first opportunity – unless it is a player you really want or a deal you can’t pass on. Let’s just wait and see. Heck, who will be the Kings GM in 5 years?

Great point about patience
Amnesty could be an incredible tool if used correctly. The Kings lack an ideal candidate (which is a good thing), and should save it. Imagine if the Kings had an amnesty exception in their back pockets when it became clear that Webber’s knee was never going to allow him to be the player he once was.

Oh great basketball gods
If you see fit, please please please oh please have the Memphis Grizzlies amnesty Rudy Gay and let us get him for a bargain price! And if not, please allow Minnesota to amnesty Darko so that your mana can fall to us. This is our humble prayer.

The Memphis Grizzlies would be absolutely insane to amnesty Rudy Gay
Particularly when if they really wanted to get rid of him, they could trade him for a young, cheap asset + a bad contract that they can amnesty. And they probably won’t even do that, since they almost made the WCF last year without him, and might’ve gone farther with him.

A real SF is what we need, our biggest (only?) hole
Although John Salmons is a good defender . .
John F-ing Salmons is back?!! I’m still having problems coping . . . . .

Salmons is a good defender
He’ll do a great job of keeping the ball away from Evans…and Jimmer…and Cousins…

two words
Brandon Roy
Phil Jackson, after treatment for a kidney stone "When the anesthesiologist leaned over me, he said "We named your kidney stone Kobe because it's not passing."
That's actually four.
Just say’n.
"We're like Tim Duncan and David Robinson. But a younger version. I really feel that." - Charlie Villanueva about himself and Chris Bosh.
If he gets cut loose
and we dont take a shot at him, I will take that as a sign that our owners dont want to win.
A short list
of likely amnesty players:
Baron Davis
Gilbert Arenas
Rashard Lewis
DeSagnia Diop
Brandon Roy
Travis Outlaw
Mike Miller
and maybe Marvin Williams
I’m usually just a lurker on this site, I often feel a bit out of my depth with some of the human basketball encyclopedias that frequent here, but I had to know if anybody sees any value for these players on the Kings. Personally I’d be happy if the Kings stayed away from all these guys. At best I guess I could see Outlaw or Diop making some solid defensive backups, the rest of these dudes just seem like major headaches though; a lot of egos that don’t quite match their value on the floor or in the locker room.
I would consider Rashard Lewis at the right price if he wanted to play here
Considering our two best players dominate in the paint, I would see value in having a stretch 4 on the team. Matt Bonner has certainly helped the Spurs and I still think Lewis > Bonner. For 2-3 mil for 2-3 years that could be a nice chip to bring off the bench.
The caveat being that I wouldn’t want to bring in an unhappy veteran who would complain about his role. So I would want to make sure Lewis could be happy playing 10-20 mpg on a up and coming team.
I can't see him being cool with backing up John Salmons.
I don’t even think I would be cool with that.

I just came up from the D-League
So I don’t think there’ll be any need to use amnesty on me. Consider me the Othyus Jeffers or Reggie Williams of StR. Though I’d rather be the Magnum Rolle, if I were basing this on the coolness of names alone.

You wouldn't want Marvin?
At some discount – I would in a second.

I'd have no objections to Marvin
I added him to that list sort of last minute. He seems the least likely to be amnestied in that group, but yes, you’re right. If he were available the Kings would be fools not to make a bid for him. He’s also the only one there besides Baron I could see starting.

I'm not sure I agree on the 'least likely' comment
That team roster makes no sense and I think someone would bid him up to close to what he’s making now, probably no worse than a $2 mil a year or so loss.

Wouldn't mind making an offer on Brandon Roy
I know he is a major injury risk but when he’s healthy, he’s amazing. He could bring some good leadership as well and would play well with Greg Oden when we pick him up too. I know maybe just pipe dreams but basketball is back!

Roy will never be healthy
This isn’t to say he can never be a good player again, but he’ll never be the player he was. His career now depends on his ability to adapt his game and be the player his body will let him be.

I Agree with you..
I think even the player Roy is today is better then a good chunk of our team. The big question would be for what price and how many games can we really expect out of him. Last year when healthy he still put some good games together. Just wouldn’t want to waste a lot of cap if he’s just a more talented Francisco.

Grant Hill
is a great example of this
Phil Jackson, after treatment for a kidney stone "When the anesthesiologist leaned over me, he said "We named your kidney stone Kobe because it's not passing."
No, Hill did get healthy
he was just older by then.
Barring some new knee miracle Roy will never be that good.

I think Roy should take the Grant Hill route and take a whole year off and completely heal.
Big Z and Grant Hill did that, and wound up having very solid careers.

Agreed that his leadership could be exceptionally valuable
But personally ionno what his leadership style is and what type of leader our team really needs

Agreed
Seems if there’s a guy who could figure out how to be productive with a decrease in athleticism, it would be Roy.
"If you can’t make a profit, you should sell your team." - Michael Jordan (Owner, Charlotte Bobcats)
I think he could pace himself in a good rotation.
But we all know how PW plays his rotations. One game Roy would be in for 30+ minutes the next it would be 10. Im thinking it can’t be good for the guy. But with a solid routine might be able to keep him self healthy.

I can't wait...
Until Kahn is the highest bidder for Baron Davis and Gilbert Arenas. Have fun Rick!
