Kirilenko
I’d be happy with AK-47 — he could help the team in a lot of ways on both ends. The Kings could probably compete for a playoff spot with him. If not AK, then I’d probably pass on the rest of the bigger-name FAs and just sign a cheap vet to round out the roster.

Agreed
I wanted Marc Gasol but it doesn’t seem like that was ever a real possibility. Kirilenko is a perfect fit IMO.

Dalembert?
He’s still out there and technically a possibility too…

Really kind of surprised
he hasn’t landed somewhere by now. With Nene, Gasol, et al having already agreed, Sammy D is probably the premier 5 left on the market. All that said, I voted Kirilenko.

If I had to spend $27 mil over the next 3 years...
I think I would rather spend it on Dalembert than Kirilenko…..
Voted Kirilenko
He’s the one on the list that brings the most needed and lacking skill set to the current roster – defensive length. But at one year and $6.5m, I would go after Crawford, too. And if that meant pulling the amnesty trigger on Salmons, so be it.

And if that meant pulling the amnesty trigger on Salmons
Was under the impression it was Garcia who was looking at the amnesty trigger

Salmons is the better player, but with the worse contract
Salmons would stand to be paid $12m more (albeit over one more year) than Garcia, and that includes paying him in Evans’ QO year. With Thornton and Crawford at the two and Kirilenko and Garcia at the three, there is no reason to keep Salmons around for his inflated price tag, in my opinion.

okay
but I thought the team was discussing amnesting Garcia, hence my confusion.

I think if it came down to it, the team SHOULD amnesty Salmons
But I don’t see how they do that, considering how they acquired the guy (and the price they paid).

How is it not AK47? His ability to play defense and be a factor without the ball in his hands would make him a perfect fit for us.
Plus, if Crawford signs with SAC then that means less minutes for Jimmer. I’d much rather see Jimmer get the experience versus sitting on the bench.

Ron Paul! Oh wait, this isn't the Iowa straw poll?
Nevermind! AK47 all the way to the 8th seed. Crawford would help though with the shortened, compessed season.

Although by all accounts Putin is a stud. Maybe we should see if he's available.

I do not understand
why people think Kirilenko is going to be good for the next 3 years. The guy hasn’t averaged more than approximately 5 rebounds in 5 years. I get back that he was really good back in the ‘05/’06 season, but that was a long time ago. Has he been anything but mediocre since?
I get that he would be a better fit than Salmons, given that he doesn’t need the ball or like to pound the rock, but I don’t want this guy sucking up 9-10mil of our cap three years from now when he’s essentially Chapu.
He's alot better as an all around player than Chapu
His stats don’t show his worth. Chapu was a good 3 point shooter that’s it. Jason Kapono basically with a little more scrap

Kirilenko is one of those guys that is really hard to chart statistically
Kind of like Shane Battier or Scot Pollard. He does a lot of those little things that don’t always show up on a stat sheet – deflecting passes, altering shots, denying the ball to his assignment.

...also forcing the guy he's defending into tough shots, exceptional help defense, etc.
And he doesn’t demand the ball like Crawford would. I think even Dally demands the ball more than AK. He fits what we need.

Kirilenko’s rebounding hasn’t dropped as much as you think. He’s playing less minutes than he did five years ago, and though his per 36 minute rebounding numbers are down, they’re down 1-2 rebounds per 36, not three or four. The bigger drop off is in his blocks. They’re down about half.
I have concerns about him too. I wonder if the problem is minutes, age, injuries, motivation or what. Interestingly, Kirilenko’s numbers actually dropped after Sloan retired this year. I’m for signing him though, because he does things like Doug Christie did – very good man defense, gets his hands in the passing lanes and moves the ball. Kirilenko can also rebound and block shots, though not as well as he used to. He’s a disruptor on defense, and isn’t someone who needs the ball a lot on offense. Those types of players are undervalued, especially when everyone else wants to shoot the ball.

His rebounding percentage the last few seasons would put him in Omri Casspi/Carl Landry territory
I think the prime benefit of Kirilenko is he’s a high energy defensive type who doesn’t require the ball a whole lot, and is a pretty efficient scorer (career TS% of .571, .588 and .567 the last two seasons). He’s a decent assist guy and can block shots and steal the ball at a high rate.
His three point shooting percentage is suspect, and it looks like it swings pretty wildly from year to year, but he doesn’t take very many of those shots.
He’s just a good, solid all around player and brings good energy on both ends of the floor.

So can someone weigh in on what this means prospectively for SAC?
More effort to sign AK? SAC still has to spend money to reach the salary floor so there IS another move coming.

If the Kings sign AK47
we need to get Marcus Thornton to change his number to 16. Then we’d have both AK47 and M16.
