What Kings Starting Line Up should really look like

Starters

PG- Tyreke Evans- He is the distributor and needs to become that elite pg and help get the offense started

SG- Jimmer Freddete- He is great outside shooter, let him play off of Evans so when he drives he can kick it out and let Jimmer do his thang. He guards the pg or the weaker guard while Tyreke guards whoever is more dangerous

SF- Travis Outlaw/John Salmons- This is hard really to say. I pick Outlaw over Salmons gives you more size and length. Also he can shoot the corner three. Salmons can be a boost of energy off the bench with Thorton

PF- JJ Hickson - Energy, Athleticism, and Great Rebounding what more can you ask he doesn't need plays ran for him he a Hustle player thats how he makes a impact. Rebounding, Garbage Points, and Put Backs

C- Demarcus Cousins- Need to be put at center not Hayes he is the future. Need to go up against the Great Centers in the league if he ever wants to become a Elite Center

Second Unit

PG- Isaiah Thomas- Knows how to run the Team

SG- Marcus Thorton- The X factor, Instance offense

SG/SF- Francisco Garcia- When he is hot he is hot will knock down the three if left open

SF- John Salmons- Here he can be the ball hog with Thorton and take all the shots he wants

PF- Jason Thompson- Pretty much gives you the same thing as Hickson, but can hit a occasional jumpshot

C- Chuck Hayes- Gives you great defense, but his size knocks him out the Starting lineup

Not seeing it

I think it’s possible that Jimmer could crack the starting lineup sometime this season, but right now, I prefer MT with Jimmer coming of the bench. MT is more of a true 2 guard, and I’d like to see Jimmer playing more PG when he comes in. He doesn’t have the NBA experience to start yet.

With Hayes, I don’t ever want to see Hayes coming off the bench unless something really is broken. Hayes is a much better defender than JJ. We can put him on any 3,4, or 5. In addition, he doesn’t need the ball offensively. He is a great match with Cuz, because Cuz will be a big part of the offense and won’t need to get into foul trouble guarding the toughest 4/5.

If you think Hayes’ size knocks him out of the starting line-up you have studied much about him. He gets assigned to the other team’s best front court player.

I am actually quite excited about the line up as PW has set it. bringing Jimmer and Hickson off the bench is going to give us a huge energy and they can light up other team’s second units. I’m confident Jimmer won’t have a problem coming off the bench. I hope JJ is the same way, but I’m not so sure.

JJ came off the bench in Cleveland and can do so here. Whether he will adjust to that I don't know.

JJ will get more minutes off the bench than he did in Cleveland with those LeBron teams when he was a bench player. I tend to think of it as minutes as less than who starts/finishes. Nobody really cares that Kevin McHale came off the bench for the Celtics teams. (I know, very different circumstances.) Unless you think JJ Hickson is getting less than 1600 (prorated for the 66 game season—2000 in an 82 game season) minutes this season, I think this is an issue. Assuming you play 3 big men equal minutes, that means you have 96 minutes at 2 positions up front. That’s 32 minutes a piece. Or 2112 total minutes in a season assuming you average that kind of minutes and suit up for all 66 contests. Therefore, I’m not worried about minutes.

I agree with you SB. I’m excited about Jimmer/JJ off the bench if only because of their abilities to create offense and energy.

Did Hickson come off the bench last year

For some reason I thought he started in the post LBJ lineup. Good to know.

Regardless if he started last year or not

I don’t see us taking the Chuck Wagon off the bench after we named him team captian.

It doesn't matter.

Minutes are what matters and guys that deserve the minutes will get them.

Paul W.

We know you already want to change the lineup, and will. You really don’t need to pass it by us this year. Just carry on.

I don't agree I am willing to bet he will stick with this line up all year.

The only real change I can see is Jimmer starting and Thornton coming off the bench.

Surely we will see multiple lineups this year

Depending mainly on injuries or other reasons, but remember, this is Paul Westphal. Switching up lineups is mandatory.

I also agree with PW on this

This is the first time in the PW era that the Kings have five legitimate NBA starters. A real team for the first time. That’s why he’s going to give this group a chance to stick.

I completly agree

The only thing I would change is Thorton starts over Jimmer, Salmons over Outlaw, and out team captian the Chuck Wagon over Hickson.

Well, at least we agree on Tyreke and Cousins starting…

If it weren't for the b2b2b's, I believe PW would have a 9 player rotation for the entire season

Reke, Jimmer, Marcus, Salmon, Outlaw, Hayes, DeMarcus, JJ and JT

We’d see Reke, Jimmer, Marcus and Salmons playing at the guard spots
We’d see Reke, Salmons, Outlaw playing at the SF spots
And, we’d see DeMarcus & Hayes starting and JJ & JT rotating in as backup with JT playing the PF because of his outside shot when on the court with JJ.

But, to me, the best starting lineup would be Reke, Salmons, Outlaw, Hayes & DeMarcus. It provides the most experience, defense and scoring mix. Not necessarily the best offense, but good offense without bad defense.

I’d have Thornton off the bench at the 2, because he’s a guy that needs a lot of attempts to get his points, and won’t get them on the court with Tyreke unless Reke evolves into a pass first guard. I’d have Jimmer at Point because he has the best mix of ball handling, passing and outside shooting. And, I think he has shown the best skill at shooting off the dribble, which is critical for your play makers.

Based on what my starting lineup would be, I think this team is a solid PG and starting SF/stretch PF away from having a solid roster at both ends of the court. I would love to see AK47. Eventually Jimmer could fill the PG spot which would allow Tyreke to move to the 2 and Salmons to the 3. But, in lieu of another starting caliber SF, we’re going to have to rely on improvement by Donte or the quick development of Honeycutt.

Thorton needs to start, JJ cant shoot FTs

Thorton comming of the bench would be a travesty of justice, and JJ cant shot FTs, so I dont see how he could be an effective PF, especially down the stretch if all it takles is a foul to ensure he doenst get points.
