Chauncey Billups and Amnesty... WOW
Reports out there that Knicks are pursuing Tyson Chandler and will amnesty Chauncey Billups to get Chandler. Do the Kings make a bid for Chauncey? He is clearly a top free agent. We need to do everything in our power to play keep away from LA.
Since Billups had just a one year contract, I think the Kings should make a very competitive bid to get Billups and have him mentor the Kings and provide leadership.
Come on Geoff, get it done if Billups will indeed get amnestied.

Chauncey's pissed right now
His agent is rumbling that he isn’t going anywhere he doesn’t want to go. This should be pretty interesting.

His agent just wants him to clear the amnesty waivers so he can sign a second deal...
he’ll show up wherever he goes.

Caveat Emptor
Per Adrian Wojnarowski’s twitter:
Just spoke to Andy Miller, agent for Chauncey Billups, who describes his client as “irate” over possibility of Knicks using amnesty on him.
Agent Miller on Billups: “He has no intention of being open-minded about any possible situation where a team would claim him off waivers..”
More agent Andy Miller on Knicks exposing Billups to amnesty waiver wire: “….unless it’s a team he chooses himself. Buyer beware.”
I understand the "buyer beware" threat
But Chauncy has to be feeling very underappreciated & disrespected. If GP can get ahold of him and make him feel wanted maybe we can get him here. I would love to have him on this team. He still has game, leadership qualities, & balls.
Maybe say “just come for a year. If you like your role we can offer you some money after if the fit is right. If not go to Miami & win a championship” he’s 35 but he’s not falling apart.

If this happens,
I see a certain ball club from So-Cal making a serious bid on Chauncey’s talents. Why trade away talent to get CP3 when you can rent Chauncey for a season…and maybe more.
Don't get me wrong
I don’t think the Lakers wouldn’t take a look at Billups, but they’re certainly not going to pass up CP3 in lieu of Billups.
I look at it as a matter of win now... within Kobe's closing window.
They can keep the talent around them, maybe amnesty Walton, and pick up Billups for a high bid. CP3 will most likely still be a free agent next season, maybe even Howard. Even thought Billups is 35 five, he’d be a starter on roughly 25 teams. He gives the team the shall no be mentioned a defensive point who can spread the floor. A major upgrade over Fisher.
I think we should offer
a second round picks to take Billups and Fields, which will allow them to use their amnesty on Turiaf. We just need to talk to Billups, ask him to be a leader on the team for a year, and see if he can help our young guys. He is smart enough to see the potential.
I think that is much too expensive to give up Fields for that.
But Fields would look good coming in at SF/SG.

If I am Billups I am looking at Boston for a number of reasons
One particular reason would be to play the Knicks as many times as possible.
Such an old lineup
A great one, but man that’s old. Ray Allen is 36, KG & Chauncey are 35 and Pierce is 34.
can the lakers (or even Boston) bid for him off waivers? what is their salary cap situation? i thought i read here in one of these threads that teams at or over the cap can’t claim amnestied players. accurate or not?..i say claim him; let him stew for a week or so (ALA webber) and be stoked to have a professional and seasoned vet in the mix.
Can we take Billups off the amnesty wire and then trade him to a contender?
Even if it’s just for a lowish pick and cash, it’s getting something for nothing. This is assuming that Chauncy meant it when he told his agent he wouldn’t play for a rebuilding team. I’m sure there’s rules built into the amnesty situation that prevents teams from exploiting it like this, but no one seems to have any idea how the amnesty stuff is going to work, so for now all kooky schemes are on the table!

after 90 days.
That likely is after the trade deadline. Maybe there will be an exception to that rule for this season?

If they don't Amnesty him...

Anyone? Anyone?
I would claim him and let him retire.
Too bad for him if he wants to play in the NBA follow the rules.
