WAKE UP SACRAMENTO AND BUILD A NEW ARENA!!!!! - Me
I have a feeling
That there will be limited player movement until there’s a resolution with this CP3 trade issue (right now it appears that the three teams involved in the trade are appealing the NBA’s decision).

I hate the Lakers as much as the next guy but you have to feel for all the teams.
I mean New Orleans got some value for a guy who was leaving after a year, the Rockets got the center/pf they always wanted and now every team is just going to have to lie to the faces of all these players and say oh we were just joking we love you.
There now I've met the 75 word count. -pookeyguru

There are reports that Howard
will ask for a trade today to the Nets. I know it’s just a rumor but I would be confused if he does so. He’s said time and time again that he wants to win a title. If he really meant it wouldn’t it make more sense to stay in Orlando this year because they are a better team right now? Even with Howard I don’t think that makes the Nets a conteneder this year.
by StevenG on Dec 9, 2011 7:59 AM PST via mobile reply actions
Howard and Williams
Is about ten times better than Howard and the stiffs on Orlando.
by Lotusprime on Dec 9, 2011 8:17 AM PST via mobile up reply actions
So he should expect a 520 win season with the nets.

If the magic
With Howard win 40 games this year I would be flabbergasted.
by Lotusprime on Dec 9, 2011 8:34 AM PST via mobile up reply actions
I guess we can wait to see what their roster looks like
when the free agency/amnesty dust settles…I was merely referencing their 52 win season last year, with a majority of the same said stiffs.
According to the espn crawl
Brandon Roy is going to announce his retirement.
by Lotusprime on Dec 9, 2011 8:35 AM PST via mobile reply actions
In that case
Would it be better for them to let him retire, or to amnesty him first?
I suppose if he gets amnestied, then whoever picks him up (assuming at a fraction of his contract) would get the cap relief when he retires, with most of his salary being paid by the Blazers. Is that how it would work?
I think
It would be better for him to retire because the blazers get the cap relief and they would get paid because of the insurance. If they amnesty him I don’t think it would be as favorable.
by Lotusprime on Dec 9, 2011 8:44 AM PST via mobile up reply actions
If he medically retires his contract stops counting against the cap next season
If they were to use the amnesty clause on him it would start now.

Such a bummer

chauncey billups
He is going to be amnestied today. Kings should go for him and Jefferson. Both will be great mentors for the young guns and billups has only one year deal.

Does anyone know if there is a restriction on trading amnesty pickups?
I doubt it can happen but it would be a nice wrinkle to be able to have a trade lined up and essentially bid for another team. I think that avenue would be better than picking up any of the names mentioned.
Good grief, even I know this is boneheaded:
Sheridan:
Dwight Howard met with NJ owner Mikhail Prokhorov & GM Billy King Thurs night in Miami, sources say. Orlando was unaware if meeting
So let’s suspend our disbelief and say that Prokhorov doesn’t understand the whole tampering thing. But Billy King? I know he’s not the greatest GM in the world, but come on!

Dumb dumb move.
Right on about Billy King. I guess the desire to get him will cloud your judgement.
Ridiculous.
The Nets would have been better off sending Deron Williams.

What will happen/has happened in past situations like this?
It seems pretty bad.
"We're like Tim Duncan and David Robinson. But a younger version. I really feel that." - Charlie Villanueva about himself and Chris Bosh.
Found this on the Orlando site:
Tampering penalties “range from ‘suspension of the offending person, prohibition of the offending team from hiring the person being tampered with, forfeiture of draft picks and individual and/or team fines of up to $5 million,’” according to an ESPN report regarding a memo the NBA issued to teams in 2010 when the New Orleans Hornets accused several teams of tampering with Chris Paul.

Thanks
I also remember something about Joe Smith and Milwaukee, I think.
"We're like Tim Duncan and David Robinson. But a younger version. I really feel that." - Charlie Villanueva about himself and Chris Bosh.
From Wikipedia:
Following the 1999–2000 season, it was discovered that Smith was involved in a salary cap–tampering scandal involving Timberwolves executive Kevin McHale. Smith was allegedly promised a future multi-million dollar deal if he signed with the team for below market value, allowing the team to make some additional player moves in the short term. The league later found out about this violation and voided the last year of the contract, also severely punishing the Timberwolves by taking away five first-round draft picks (though two of the picks were ultimately returned) and fining the team $3.5 million.2 The move hurt the Timberwolves in the long run, as while the team still found success, the lack of draft picks set the team up for their eventual failure in the mid-2000s.

Rockets might have tampered with Howard too.
McHale just doesn’t learn, I guess.

McHale never came across as a smart guy to me.

Oh crap.
They lost a total of 3 first round picks. I may need to invest in some vodka stock, becaue I think the Nets’ new owner may be going on a binge soon.

Funny too
Howard said today that he wants a trade to Nets. I don’t think that’s happening now.

Chandler to sign with NYK for 4 yrs/$58 million. Billups to get amnestied.

Thad Young staying with 76ers
Means Andre Iggy is leaving. Can’t think of a small forward better fit for us.

Looks like Nene's gonna get 4 years, 60-65 million from the Nets
"If you can’t make a profit, you should sell your team." - Michael Jordan (Owner, Charlotte Bobcats)
Which means Dwight Howard ain't coming to the Nets.
Not a bad thing for Orlando, but not so for Dwight Howard.
No mistakes in the tango, Donna. Not like life. Simple. That's what makes the tango so great. If you make a mistake, and get all tangled up, you just tango on.....
Why?
Nene can play PF. The Nets still have Lopez and the firsts to offer for Howard. Why does this doom Howard?
by LightningStrike5 on Dec 9, 2011 11:21 AM PST up reply actions
I doubt there is any way you can pay Deron Williams, Nene and Dwight Howard all at the same time at max salaries for each.

With a lowered cap?
Not sure the Nets can pull it off. Still think what happened with Miami is an outlier anyway.

Cap hasn't lowered yet
Still at $58
by LightningStrike5 on Dec 9, 2011 11:46 AM PST up reply actions
Right I know that.
But I meant with a lowered BRI% to the players. Signing 3 max guys like MIami did will be exceptionally hard, and I don’t think the Nets can pull it off in any way shape or form given that Miami signed their whole team after signing the Big 3. The Nets can’t do it that way.

Well, regardless, Miami didn't sign them to max contracts.
They all took less than max — trivial but also something the nets trio can agree to as well.

For a comparison
Jason Terry signed a six year $57 million contract in ’06.
I think Thornton would be great in a similar type of role.
Line up..

JJ
DMC
I really don’t hate this lineup at all.
