I don't understand why the confrontation would be with Donte

was he in-bounding and DMC thought he should get the ball?

Tyreke Evans missed a three-pointer in the final seconds in a loss to OKC. Seems clear Cousins thought he was open.

My recommendation

Go to sleep. Don’t make too much of this. None of these guys are used to losing so much for the first time in their basketball career, and all these close losses get to be a bit much, especially for a passionate guy like DMC.

I’m going to sleep. We’ll see what happens.

after watching

Tyreke screw up close game after close game, and then having PW be harsh on him once only to retract that stance the next game (where Tyreke pulls the same stunt), I can really understand his frustration.

It doesn’t condone his behavior, though.

It was not a bad play. It was a missed shot.

With 5 second left, no one was very open and passing the ball and rushing a shot was not the right play, IMO. Missed shot, nothing more, nothing less.

I think suspending him is the wrong choice

Fining him may have been more appropriate. But in not letting him play the team risk’s alienating him. That won’t stop him from speaking up, but it may stop him from learning to speak up in an appropriate way.

From JA Adande (ESPN)

Cousins became upset after he didn’t touch the ball on the last play, which resulted in a missed three-pointer by Tyreke Evans. According to the Sacramento Bee’s Kings blog, "Westphal said the final play wasn’t drawn up specifically for Evans and that Donte Greene had options inbounding the ball. Evans became the best option because he was open and the Thunder away DeMarcus Cousins in the post."

One source said Cousins and Green argued in the locker room, with Cousins telling everyone he wanted respect, regardless of his rookie status.

So 2 teammates fought

I dont see the big problem… Anybody who has played sports in H.S. or beyond has either been a part of a fight or witnessed a fight between teammates…What we had tonight was a young emotional player get into it with a struggling (cant get minutes on a horrible team) player. That alone is a volatile situation . To suspend DMC over this is going to put a major strain on his relationship with Management IMO…I hope Petrie knows what he is doing, because from my angle, he may be out the door before DMC is.

I definitely agree

that athletes are going to fight with each other. It is the nature of the beast. It doesn’t mean that the organization should turn the other cheek when it happens. Just watched the reply several times

If donte would have been a bit more patient DMC had position on Nick Collison but not to terribly deep into the block. Tyreke had the hot hand and an ok look. I assume DMC would have shot a turn around (like the game winner he had in the summer league). I think both were not very makable shots.

No, he said Collison was holding his arm so he could go up for the rebound of Evans miss.

His dispute with Greene, may or may not be due to Green not getting him the ball off the inbound play.

Curious thought, DMC said that he was the 1st option, when the play was called.

I love this kid

I think he has the potential to be the greatest Sacramento King. His immaturity drives me nuts but his fire is just unquenchable and he’s smart. You can grow out of immaturity but you can never get past stupid. His actions aren’t justifiable but they are understandable. If he’s still doing the same things in 5 years…..too bad but I don’t think he will. DMC is going to take this team farther than Donté ever could. Our sad sack franchise needs a kick in the ass and if it takes a little heat from Cuz I’m OK with it. It’s going to be on the news cycle for the next week or so and make the Kings look even sillier for a while but crap, how much worse can we really look?

The talk of trading Cuz is so overblown and premature I can’t believe that it was brought up here. If this FO and coaching staff can’t handle this kid they shouldn’t be in professional sports. If the Kings decided they wanted to trade Cousins I would instantly become a fan of whatever team they traded him to.

It is better for team morale if the decision came from Petrie.

Petrie isn’t really part of the “team,” so his decision is less likely to make Cousins feel alienated from his teammates. It’s ok to hate your boss, but it sucks if you hate your coworkers. Hopefully, Evans, Donte and Cousins will apologize to each other, and maybe Evans will make better decisions late in games now. The players can say that they did not want him to get suspended, but the decision came from above so there was nothing they could they do about it. I think that this will bring the team closer together.

Perspective

Man-child acts childish. Man…

New guy calls former ROY on his predictable end-of-game tendencies. Fan-boy behavior reflex to defend Evans apparently extends from fanbase to teammates. Why Greene got involved is an interesting story, I imagine. And imagining is as close as we’re going to get to the details, because we will never get the facts of this incident.

I’d still rather have this sort of thing once a week than have some seasoned pros who don’t give a shit whether they win or lose. They can play with black eyes and busted lips, as long as they keep playing.

When the dust settles, this ain’t gonna add up to shinola.

This does not “lower Cousins’ trade value” because no one is stupid enough to consider trading him. If this is your main concern, I’m not even certain that you’re a basketball fan.

Evans is not nearly good enough to be the go-to guy at the end of the game night-in and night-out, especially when the other teams all know he’s going head down into his shot, open teammates be damned. It’s not entirely his fault; the team lacks offensive weapons. But if Cousins was open and in position to do damage, he should have gotten the ball.

I believe I may have said this, but this really is a lot less meaningful than you’d think, given the 140-character freak-outs I’m seeing online.

Relax. They’re pros, they are teammates, they will sort it out, behind closed doors, and the season will continue.

It's too bad the team decided to kick DMC off the plane

Just because league officiating imposes BS on rookie players doesn’t mean the team management needs to. Seems like kind of a sissy la la act. This team needs leadership – sometimes you have to act fearlessly to get your point across. This team has had nailbiter after nailbiter loss. Kings bosses should take time to think of a calculated response when they are fresh in the morning – not make a hasty decision close to midnight when everyone is exhausted from another defeat.

I disagree

Donte and his punk ass purple shoes are the problem. He hasn’t done dick for this team and walks around with more false pride than any other guy on this team. His false bravado needed to be checked.

Hasn't done shit for the team? Bull shit.

Donte isn’t the greatest player in the world but he still contributes. And he definantly contributes too getting involved with the fans and his team mates. He’s proud to be a Sacramento King and is a great guy.

Punk ass DeMarcus bitches up all the time and acts like a punk in general as well. Treats my homegirl like shit n ask her to give him head and fuk him n shit. The dude has no respect for other ppl and apparently not his team mates. Punk ass purple shoes? Thats the team colour idiot u gon diss a mans shoes? What a fuckin joke.

Hate to break it to you, but EVERY NBA player treats women like that.

Okay, not every, but many including a lot of the younger guys in the league that I’ve had the misfortune of meeting at a club or somewhere else (CJ Watson is a huge huge huge douche and JT tries to get at whoever looks at him).

This needs to be gold.

Well said, Ed.
