Why?

Is Bleacher Report SBnation too?

by Doubl3Dos3 on Mar 21, 2011 10:45 AM PDT up reply actions

Bleacher Report is a content farm

which gives anyone and everyone the right to write an article so that search engines see their results first since there are massive amounts of so-called “articles” on the web coming from the site, so the dumb search engine formula thinks “hey, this website must be really knowledgeable so lets have it higher in our rankings” which gets their site views and advertisement money.

Bleacher Report is essentially an entire website dedicated to Fanposts, with most of those being “slideshows”. Their work is so tainted in my mind that even the rare good article gets lost among the muck.

Websites like Bleacher Report are the reason a site like FanHouse with its excellent bloggers and reporters was sold to SportingNews. It just wasn’t worth it to AOL to continue to pay for the quality when they could get the same or more amount of views off of lower quality but higher quantity.

Gotcha

It was written by a buddy so I linked it. But after exploring BR I see what you mean. Guess I just need to get him to write articles here.

by Doubl3Dos3 on Mar 21, 2011 11:29 AM PDT up reply actions

Well stated. This is without a doubt the best critique of BR that I've seen you write.

I suggest you keep these few paragraphs handy and copy/paste them in the comment section of every BR fanshot. “ADSFK’NAV[OJWENAWEJFAL;BNJNF;AEB” is great at conveying frustration, but it’s a pretty lousy deterrent.

Just say we need an arena or we will relocate? They were already being accused of blackmailing the city without ever threatening to leave. I am sure the public would have said “well they told us upfront and truthfully, lets go fund an arena”.
The article was interesting right up until all the crap in the conclusion, then it just became a waste of my time. It was well written crap though, so thats a plus.

In my quest to set the family record and live to 103, I am beginning to get pissed at the amount of body parts falling off along the way.

He lost me at...

The Washington Bullets drafted CWebb.

Had to check because you said that...

Former No. 1 overall pick Chris Webber was brought on board to be the face of a new era in Kings basketball. Webber was apparently unaffected by the long-running jinx the team had on lottery picks—probably because he was actually drafted by the Washington Bullets.

by HeuristicLineup on Mar 21, 2011 1:52 PM PDT up reply actions

Webber was actually drafted by the Magic.

They traded him to Golden State for the #3 pick (Penny Hardaway) and 3 future 1st rounders.

Shit on the Bullets error all you wish.

Ain’t a great deal about this piece out of line.

Nope, not out of line.

Its an opinion. I just think the Maloofs are something tangible that Kings fans can direct their anger/disappointment. This wont be the last thing I read about how the Maloofs did not wanna stay in Sacramento.

its really a polarizing issue amongst the people I have talked with. Either you blame them, or you sympathize with them. and this is all about business.

A mismanaged business.

Changes nothing as to where the blame lies, in regard to the declining product quality, angst toward the market, or any ultimate choice as to where the franchise calls home.

The community has not been as proactive as it should have been in regard to an entertainment complex, but even on the rare occasions when it has stepped up, the Maloofs undermined it.

I'm confused about why the Webber trade has anything to do with the Kings moving.

Butterfly effect!

In all seriousness, I think the author was trying to say that Webber was the most well-known player of our golden era and that once he was traded, that pretty much opened the door to let go all of the other commonly-known guys like Christie, Bibby, Divac (yes, technically, we didn’t let him go), Peja, even Brad Miller. To fans like us, this made sense because these players were on the downside of their careers, were expensive for their on-court production, and probably would’ve been unhappy as a King anyway. But to the average Kings fan, the Kings they knew became the Who-Are-These-Guys-and-Why-Did-We-Trade-A-Championship-Team-For-This?

The economic bust of the late 2000’s and the suckage of the Kings on-the-court performance led to a loss of identity with the average fan and created an indifference to the team. That indifference may have led to not wanting to publicly fund Arco III, which is now leading to the Kings pondering a move.

At least that’s what I think he’s trying to say.

by clicc916 on Mar 21, 2011 2:40 PM PDT up reply actions

Well....

…Christie was traded before Webber that season and Divac was let in Free Agency prior to trading Webber. So, again, they were all in the same overall time period from say the beginning of the 04-05 season to the end I guess.

I just don’t see how that had anything to do with Q&R in 2006 or anything else. I don’t buy that building a new arena would have happened if fans had a strong identification with the team. It’s about tax dollars, and too many people in Sac don’t want to see those kinds of tax dollars spent that way.

This is right on

Who cares if he got some transactions timing mixed up?…. That is not the point… The point is this has been a plan of the Maloofs for many years and we were blind to it for way longer than we ever imagined…. The brothers are probably amazed the farce lasted as long as it did…… You ever notice the Maloof name was more prevalent than the Sacramento Kings were in anything they produced…. The Maloof brand I guess….. Nice brand the boys created….. One that represents a complete void of loyalty, business failure…..(beer dist/ Palms)…. And a recipe to alienate some of the best fans in all of sports.

Here's where this doesn't add up for me -

We call the Maloofs idiots for pissing away daddy’s fortune, yet they were brilliant enough to lay this scheme out years in advance? Sorry, but it just doesn’t compute.

I really want to make a joke about

how they’ve been planning this since 1951. That’s why the Royals won it all that year and why now in 2011, the Kings had to wear those jerseys for the hardware classics thing. So they’ve been planning on making fun of us ever since 1951.

I’m just not good with such narratives.

I wonder how successful George Maloof Sr...

…would have been if he put a lot of money in a casino and the economy in Vegas tanked about 10 years after significant dollars and 2 major expansions happened.

Didn't say it was brilliant

That won’t be determined for years to come once they move and become a 3rd team in So Cal…. At the end of the day they are the majority owners and can do what they please…. Their ego and image are very important to them and is what drives many of their decisions…. That is one reason they counldnt move the team earlier… Blow to image… Plus NBA would fight them due to David Sterns obsession with image over substance…… But now they have systemati
