My name is Al and yes it is my real name. I am one of the hundreds of folks who read this blog daily and while I never post I feel like I am a part of the family.
I just made the biggest mistake of my life and decided to check in on the live feed of the Anaheim City Council and watched as the cheers erupted at the 5-0 vote in favor of the bond. My first reaction was one of horror, then immense sadness, then to anger and then just plain sorrow. It reminded me of a combination of losing my first love and when your favorite pet dies. It is awful.
While I know the Kings haven't left yet and there is still a glimmer of hope, I can't quite shake that this is the first nail among many in the coffin. I watched the good folks of Anaheim in all there joy of getting there hands on a real live NBA team and I couln't help but think that they had no idea how their happiness was ripping our hearts out. To them it was just another toy for them to play with, a place to take the kids on a Saturday night, a place to go instead of the mall.
What they don't realize (and most likely never will) is what they are doing to a great group of loyal die hard fans. They are stealing away a huge part of our lives, without so much as a thankyou. They will never understand the sheer excitment of Arco in the early 2000's, watching Vlade skip pass another to Webber for a dunk. They will never understand our undying hatred of Bob Horry and how much we will all remember the agony of that loss. They will never understand what they just did to the great Kings fans and this great community. To watch their joy as they stuck the knife into our hearts and ripped it out with out so much as a fleeting thought just made me sick to my stomach.
Just like we tell our kids that they will never understand what it is like to be a parent utill they are one, the folks in Anaheim have no comprehension of how many of us in Sacramento feel tonight. Maybe many years down the road they will look back and understand what it is like to be a true fan, most likely they won't, but tonight I guarantee as the tears seem to want to creep into my eyes, they have no idea the raw gut wrenching emotion that is sweeping over many of us tonight. Thanks for listening
