Six months after someone painted a swatiska on Omri Casspi's image, someone has stolen the portion of the Sacramento mural with his face.
--
SACRAMENTO, Calif. -- Sacramento police are investigating who vandalized the Kings mural at 16th Street and R Street downtown.
The painter said someone ripped off a portion of the panel with Omri Casspi's face on it.
It's the third time someone has defaced the painting and targeted Casspi specifically.
The first two cases of vandalism occured in September last year. Someone painted a swastika on Casspi's face.
Casspi is the first Israeli-born player in the NBA.The painter has now written a message on the mural.
That message says, "Someone stole my face." That message also offers a $5,000 reward and asks anyone with information to email the painter.

I’m pretty sure it was stolen by a contending team’s city, who saw his talent and felt like they could give him more of a role on court.
Anyone who believes that is a Nazi.
Rocks are free, and slingshots easily stolen. And for a limited time, every third person who follows me on Twitter (andy_sims) gets a free ice cream cone.
Which I will eat.

More coherent thoughts...
Wasn’t this mural painted on a wall? How do you steal part of a wall? And probably in broad daylight, too, because this was only reported a half hour ago.
This is not going to help our case for keeping the Kings in Sac, or keeping Omri on the Kings if they do end up staying.

I think it's painted on a wood fence
And I hope Omri realizes that he’s going to be a “target” of certain segments of the population no matter where he plays.

And what makes it worse..
…is that he hypes his being an Israeli up. It only cranks the anti-Semitic idiocy up just that much more. Why I have no idea.

So that I understand what you're saying
He hypes up his being an Israeli. Almost as if he’s born, raised, and imported directly from Israel right???
Sorry to call you out, but that’s a ridiculous comment. No one should be afraid or care about hyping up who they are for worry of what others will think. And the Anti-Semitic idiocy that he is faced with is not his fault.

I think he understood perfectly fine
what you said. Maybe you intended to say something else, but then it was worded very poorly, pookey.
When you write: He hypes up his being an Israeli, it sounds very much as a reproach, certainly in the context of the preceding comments.
And even it wasn’t meant as a reproach, and I believe you didn’t intend it that way, it is a wrong statement. He was hyped by others, and just rides the wave. You can argue that he could distance himself from it, but you have no idea what a public outrage in Israel that would spark.

you have no idea what a public outrage in Israel that would spark.
I think that’s really the key. I remember he’s – very carefully – said in the past (I think right after the first swastika, actually) that he wants to just be known as a basketball player, and a good one, and that he doesn’t want to just be known as the first Israeli player in the NBA forever. But that kind of thing is hard to get away from. If he says just one wrong word, there’d probably be a media firestorm in Israel.

No actually he didn't.
That’s all I’m gonna say. Kiss my ass if you think that was an anti-Semitic sentiment. I got better things to do with my time.

For the record
In no way did I or do I think you were/are being anti semitic. Absolutely not. If you were, quite honestly, I probably wouldn’t of even taken the time to respond.
I’ll put it this way, say you moved to a mythical place where there are no Kings fans, and you were known as THE Kings fan over being just Pookey. If you were caused some sort of harm or disrespect because you were THE Kings fan would you then play down being a Kings fan? Would you tell others to cool it with the Kings fan talk? Maybe you would, maybe you wouldn’t but it should be YOUR choice on whether to do so, and not up to comment by someone else whether you do or dont. If you want to be proud of your fandom then you should have the right to do it without others saying that you shouldn’t play up being THE KINGS FAN over just simply being Pookey.
Again, I apologize for calling you specifically out. I don’t want to knock you as much as I want knock the fact that a person can be caused harm due to either themselves or someone else playing up their own heritage.
I took no offense, pookey,
because I know you and I knew what you were trying to convey. Had it been someone else, however – someone that I did not know – I would have likely taken offense.

Read my comment closely pookey
and you’ll know I wasn’t accusing you of writing something anti-semitic.
And instead of going on attack mode, accusing Auggs of not understanding what you’re saying and me of labeling you as an anti-semitic, you could just concede that you worded something poorly.
I think we knew each other well enough (even if only through this site) to call one another out on certain matters, without taking it to such levels. I’d really think you’d know I wouldn’t accuse you of being anti-semitic.
Have a good day.

I don't think that was what he was saying
he wasn’t saying that hyping it up is a bad thing, just that this kind of stuff comes with the territory, as unfortunate and fucked up as it is.

I don't think that's what Pookey meant at all
What I think he was saying was that Omri is not just a basketball player from Israel. he is THE ISRAELI basketball star. The fact that he is Jewish is as big or bigger than the fact that he is an NBA basketball player to many people. This paints a target on his back for the kind of punks who would pull this kind of crap.
Not a knock on Omri at all. But a statement of fact that wherever he goes, there will always be some lowlifes who try to pull him down, just like there will always be people waving the Israeli flag. It’s disgusting and sad, but unfortunately it will probably not be the last time he has to deal with bigotry and hate.

Agreed there
And I think that’s what you meant Pookey. But at the same time, whether he is THE Israeli bball player or not, he should have a right to be proud of who he is and where he’s from. Not try to play it down for fear of others.

Good thing we have Wally's opinion
because I was completely unaware that the word “Agreed” had changed meaning from 11:27 to 11:30 this morning
The sad thing is
is that Sacramento is actually probably one of the less hateful places he could be and still has this crap happen.

I think the number would be lower than other places
Sacramento is known as a very diverse and accepting city, unfortunately there are still hate-mongers everywhere.

well I have lived in a few places on the West Coast that could either be characterized as accepting or not

What is so bad about being from Israel anyways?!
Israelis are just regular people, like us. Same with Jews. They just have different opinions and beliefs, but they are still normal people at heart.
"Keep a positive outlook, even when things are looking bleak. Remember, nothing is impossible."
I was OK with this conversation,
right up to the moment where you accused me of being normal. :)
