Here We Rally at Cesar Chavez Park Today!
Today from 5-8 PM, the city of Sacramento, in conjunction with the NBA and the Kings, will be holding a big rally in downtown Sacramento at Cesar Chavez Park. Former Sacramento Kings greats Doug Christie (aka the man who punched Rick Fox in the face and did some other things too) and Scot Pollard (aka the man of a million hairstyles) will be there, coach Paul Westphal will be there, along with several other special guests.
If that isn't enough for you to come out, just to boot, there will be a live performance by Sacramento's very own TESLA, followed by fireworks!
This will be the last Kings-related celebration in a while before we get back to work on winning this war and getting an arena built, so make sure you come out and be a part of it. Try to wear Purple or anything Kings related, and most importantly have fun. This event is for you guys, the fans, and you deserve it.

Enjoy the celebration Sacramento. You've earned it.
Alas, I can’t get out of the Bay Area to celebrate with you all. But I’ll be ringin’ the cowbell in spririt and solidarity with all my Brothers and Sisters in Purple today. Congratulations to everyone and great work! Let the construction begin!

Pookey has it right though :) Also my son loves the Kings as much as I do so on top of feeling bad for missing his game I’d also feel bad I left him behind. I can’t pull him because he’s their ace pitcher & today is a battle for first place. His team is really depending on him. I’m going to try to go straight there after though just hope it’s not too late.

I'll be there.
It had to meant to be, because I’m in a league tonight and it just happens to be a 9 PM game this week when on any given day it could be 6, 7, or 8, on the contrare…. But…it’s a 9’er..so I’ll be there! And ready for an inebriated softball game with the good folks from my church afterward.
Damn, wish I could be there!
On another note, HAPPY BIRTHDAY DALLY! 30 years old today.

The Maloofs are going to be there?
How do you go to a rally to celebrate that you were forced into a decision to not stomp on the hearts of a city?

And if they didn't show
Everyone would say how they were cowards and should’ve come.
I’m not saying to like the Maloofs, but I think showing up is a better decision than not showing up.

Dammed if you do, dammed if you dont.
I certainly don’t like the Maloofs actions the last 6 months, but I feel like its best to put that ill feeling aside at a rally celebrating the Kings in support of trying to get a new building.
Doesn’t mean I have to cheer for the Maloofs, go up to them, smile, and say thank you for keeping the team in Sac. In fact, I’d probably try to stay as far away as possible from them. I just wouldn’t want anything to happen to make the fans look silly from a bigger perspective. Stay classy Sacramento.
by chenp22 on May 10, 2011 11:20 AM PDT up reply actions 2 recs
That's my point
Most fans who attend the rally may not be in the loop as far as what has really happened over the last 6 months or so, and they’ll just be attending to celebrate the Kings. However, there may be knowledgeable fans who attend who may start chants or boo the Maloofs.
We’ve discussed on here how the Maloofs are emotional guys that make decisions based on those emotions. To quote Anchorman with advice to the Maloofs:
“Take it easy, Champ. Why don’t you stop talking for a while? Maybe sit the next couple plays out, know what I mean?”

Agreed
I think that it has been pretty well chronicled how I feel about MS&E at this point in time, but I would still welcome the Maloofs at any event like this, and I would refrain from vocalizing any negativity in their direction, as these events are neither the time or place for such actions.

I won't be able to make it
Due to about a million things, including class, the 90 mile drive, and the fact that I “get” to dress up and sit through a several-hours-long banquet thing tonight because my sister’s getting some kind of award. On the plus side, Aaron Rodgers might be there (if he’s still in town..he was last week, cuz a friend of mine ran into him at La Salles) so that would be something. Still, I’d rather be able to go to the rally…someone be sure to take pictures/videos so the rest of us can live vicariously through you :)

Wpw what a fun night!
Pollard and Christie are such class acts… they walked through the entire crowd shaking hands and signing autographs.
I was 5 feet away from Joe Maloof and was shockingly able to restrain myself from a profanity laced tired. I will tell you though, he looked VERY uncomfortable when he was up on stage. Gavin looked genuinely like he was having fun though… either that or he’s a good salesman (lol).
Best part of the night? The crowd reaction when they showed Christie uppercutting Fox. Runner up? C Webb video!

Man what a fun night to be out there with fellow kings fans
I was proud to see the efforts of STR and social media campaigns be mentioned. Nice to see Ed and Jimmy Kimmel Aykis16 on stage. Way to go guys!
"For five decades (and counting), these fans have been blessed with West, Baylor, Wilt, Kareem, Magic, Shaq and Kobe. Seven of the 15 best players ever. At some point, the gravy train will end. The Lakers will bottom out like the Knicks did last decade, submarined by bad moves, poor signings and unlucky drafts. Their fans will flee in droves. Jack will pass away. The buzz will be gone. That's how the NBA works -- in a 30-team league, you can't always get lucky, not even if you're a big-market team with deep pockets. I don't know if that day is three years off or 30, but it's coming." Bill Simmons
That rally was off the hook!
Such a great time…
So many great points: Especially when Webber’s video popped up! The place exploded. Another was when Kevin Johnson was offered to go represent us at the lottery. Another was Tesla’s music. It was just all really awesome.
