Quick Core Poll
As you know, there has been a lot of discussion involving, what we should do regarding, FA, Trades, and our draft pick.
Just wanted to get a quick consensus on what STR thinks regarding the below scenario.
If one of the below players(or other I may not have specified)
Rudy Gay, Danny Granger, Andre Iguodala, Gerald Wallace, Manu Ginobli, Luol Deng.
Russell Westbrook, Chris Paul, Rajon Rondo, Deron Williams, Eric Gordon, Steph Curry, Monta Ellis, Kevin Martin, Ray Allen, Tony Parker .
Dwight Howard, Pau Gasol, LeMarcus Aldridge, Zach Randolph, Al Horford, Kevin Love, Andrew Bogut, Nene, Andrew Bynum, Tyson Chandler, Joakim Noah, Marc Gasol, Al Jefferson, Chris Bosh, Luis Scola, Andrea Bargnani.
were to become available in a trade to the Kings, but we had to include 1 of Tyreke, Demarcus, or Marcus.

I think it goes beyond that
If you can trade Tyreke or Thornton or Cousins and you think in doing so you upgrade the team, you do it. There are no untouchables on this team or just about any team for that matter.
The other thing I would say is we need to bring in players who will push the players we have/keep, and maybe it’s better to take a chance on younger guys like Thornton who can get a better opportunity on the Kings than they are getting where they are at. Let’s add a guard who has the potential to be our best guard and better than the guys we have, not just take minutes from Beno. Maybe a guy like OJ Mayo whose playing time has bounced around fits that bill.
"His D was a difference at the end."

Upgrade the team next season or for the next 5-10 years?
I voted none
Reason being all 3 of these guys as far as we know like being here. The guys I like on the list(Dwight Howard, Rondo, Westbrook just to name a few) have already tasted success & would want more of it FAST.
Let these guys grow together & see what the become. Similar to what OKC has done. Durant & Westbrook are clear stars/superstars while Jeff Green ended up just being a role player. So they traded him for someone they thought could make an impact.
(I actually wouldn’t mind us picking up Jeff Green & playing him at small forward. Which I feel is his natural position)
I love beating dead horses.
I’m ok with the situation at present right now. We don’t really know what we have yet. These guys are still growing, adjusting to each others games, fighting through injuries, etc. They could develop a nice little core for all we know.
That being said, If we were able to get someone that was a similar age, or maybe a little bit older like Steph Curry, Eric Gordon, or Rudy Gay, I would consider trading one of our guys.
I’d prefer no on Jeff Green. I don’t see much more out of him than we are currently getting with Omri or Donte.
I voted Thornton,
because he is the guy, per the poll instructions, that I would be most willing to part with. That said, there are some exceptions. For example, if Westbrook were available, I’d probably be more willing to trade Evans.
Also, there are only a few guys on this list where I would want to trade any of the three when I consider contract, health, etc. Of this list, I would only part with one of these guys to obtain Westbrook(Evans or MT), Paul(Evans or MT), Williams(Evans or MT), Gordon(MT), Curry(MT), Howard(any), P.Gasol (MT), Aldridge(MT), Horford(MT), Love(MT), Nene(MT), Noah(MT), M.Gasol(MT), and Bosh(MT).

I like the Reke/MT23 suo over the Curry/Ellis duo
Would a Reke/Curry duo be better? Curry is a better distributer than Thornton as of right now but I’d say scoring they’re a wash. The one thing I like about MT23 over Curry is he’s a little bull. Curry to me looks frail & Kevin Martin-ish. Can he take a pounding year after year?
I love beating dead horses.
Yes, I think a Reke / Curry backcourt has a chance to one of the NBA's best.
very complimentary players I think.

I kinda agree
Thorton just played his second year, and he is a bull and his shooting is good and gonna improve, you can see that. I know it may be crazy, but I think I’d rather have Thorton too, but its close. Thorton also has that clutch, leaderish personality about him too. Im simply thrilled to have him

Yea I can see that
They both seem to be hybrid point/shooting guards. So I guess it works well.
I think Marcus even played some point guard in High School, or college. I think he’s good at distributing.
If we drafted Irving
would you be willing to part with Tyreke in a deal that brought in a big like Nene? I think he’s the only big on your list that could be available if Denver decided to continue the blowup.
"His D was a difference at the end."
Giving us a core lineup of
Gs: Thornton, Irving, Beno.
Bigs: Nene, Cousins, Dalembert.
SF: Omri, Donte, free agent?
"His D was a difference at the end."
That's an interesting question
A couple unknowns obviously. How good is Irving going to be in the pros? and Nene has some serious history of injuries.
If the Kings somehow, someway draft Irving I would expect them to play it out and decide who to ship out later.
"Children want what they want when they want it." ... Andy Sims
Isn't Nene an unrestricted anyway?
Hmmm, I guess he’s a ETO, it’s up to him.

Given that Nene would be earning five digits,
I would not do Evans for Nene straight up. That is, Nene would be a palpable talent, but at fair value. Evans, due to his rookie scale contract, is a very good value. Also, you’re banking an awful lot on Iriving’s rapid growth, because a Beno/Thornton backcourt is a bleh backcourt at best.
SACTOWN ROYALTY - Try our thick creamy shakes!
Beno may be gone in two years, maybe less
And I don’t think we’ll be playing for a title next year, so Irving would have some time to grow.
Would you trade Tyreke for Kevin Love, assuming the T-Wolves were game?
And how much better is Tyreke than Beno? If “a Beno/Thornton backcourt is a bleh backcourt at best,” is a Tyreke-Thornton backcourt that much better?
In time, Irving would likely be better than both Tyreke and Beno, at least at playing point guard. Maybe not at chucking up prayers.
"His D was a difference at the end."
No, I would not trade Evans for Love
Love is a rebounding machine, but I think that he is a man-to-man defensive sieve.
Regarding Evans vs. Beno, it’s a matter of growth potential. Udrih has likely capped out, while Evans still has a lot of room to grow.
I find it interesting that you think that it is “likely” that Irving would become a better PG than Evans or Udrih, given his very small resume. Time will tell.

You could say the same thing ...
I find it interesting that you think that it is "likely" that Irving would become a better PG than Evans or Udrih, given his very small resume. Time will tell.
… about Tyreke vs. more experienced and accomplished point guards. As you say, time will tell. I’d love to see him take a giant leap in Year 3.

Than why aren't you grading Irving against those players?

It's kind of like the old joke
I don’t have to be able to outrun the bear; I just have to be able to outrun YOU. Moot point now, but if Irving had become a King, he would have had to beat out our guys for PT.
I do think Irving has a better chance than Tyreke to become an elite PG. That’s my “grade.”
"His D was a difference at the end."
No.
Hell no would I ever trade Tyreke for Nene. That’s just……I’m not even going there. That’s silly beyond belief and then some.

Thank you!
I was wondering if I was out of my mind for feeling this way.
"The Kings have nothing to lose but their games."
So if Reke, Thornton, or DMC
were included in any of the Iggy, Gay, Granger trades, you’d be unhappy?
Yes
Because you are obtaining those guys at no better than fair value. In fact, if any of those guys become available, it is because the teams that currently have them feel that their contracts are not justified by their talent. Adding any of those guys and losing ‘Reke, MT, or DMC is a net gain talent-wise, but now you are in a position where you cannot afford to get much better. Unless you can hit a homerun (acquiring a top 10 NBA talent), you don’t include any of those guys in the deal.

I was one of the lone votes for Cousins
But I’d hope to keep that group together at least through next season to see how they mesh.
Burklemaniac
What part aren't you sold on?
I mean sure he doesn’t get back on D all the time, is slow on his drives, turns the ball over, and fouls a lot. He also lacks maturity.
He’s also 20 and I can see his natural ability with regards to his shooting and passing. I’m guessing you can see that too. I think/hope the other things come with time.
I want to see what kind of shape he comes in this next season
And he was the 4th best rookie (IMO) in a fairly weak draft class. So I’m just not as high on him as some.

Griffin wasn't really in his class
and talent -wise? I think he’s #1 or #2.
But I too am more than a little curious as to the shape he comes into camp.

I'm not sold that he's not going to end up being Benoit Benjamin
But the talent is definitely there, as you noted.

He's already rebounding better, scoring better and assisting better
Benoit’s had plenty of skill, the head . . . .? I understand.
I just don’t believe in worrying about worst case scenarios this soon.

And I don't think he had as good a year as many here
So in essence, I’m not going to assume best case scenario either.

Cuz was very much a mixed bag across the board any way you slice it.
That’s the good and bad news.

I voted dont' trade any of the three..
…on the basis that unless you get a real improvement over one of them, that’s the trio more or less Petrie is going with.

Yup me too.
If Tyreke gets back to form, and DMC makes strides watch out. I know we are Kings fans and live with perputual hope in our young guys, but these three should make things interesting next year, I may be alone or crazy but god willing we stay healthy, re-sign Daly and MT, I think that squad alone could be .500 or better. And I have a sneaking suspicion Petrie will make one big move this offseason. I really, really hope we dont lose any games to a lock out

I think we would have won 30 + if jst the lineups had been stable earlier in the year
and Thornton is good for a few more wins over a full season for sure.
