I know the Maloofs are in an impossible situation now, kind of like when a spouse cheats, is denied a divorace, and now has to get back in the good graces of the angry, bitter other half. Not an easy task to say the least. But that's what they did, they wanted to leave and in the end knew they couldn't.
So during the interview Grant Napier did, Grant presented a very good question of (paraphrasing) everyone pretty much knows you wanted Aneheim but you couldn't get the votes, was that the main reason you decided to no file? Maloof said no, we stayed for the fans.
How can you take anything else he said seriously? I apprecited he flatly said they will leave in a year if the arena is not built. But to say you stayed because of the outcry of fans is an out and out lie. I guess he felt he had no other choice. Kind of like if the spurned wife asks if you enjoyed sex with the girl you cheated with, it's death to say yes, so the guy always says, "no, no I was always thinking of you". When if he was really thinking of her he would not have cheated (and no I have never cheated, I just thought it was a perfect comparison).
I just hate being lied to I guess. I may be reading into this but Grant did not sound pleased with the answer either. But what can he say? Sure he says he is objective on his show, but you can't speak to badly about your boss if you want your job. So while Grant can speak freely about the players he can't say, "I think you're a liar boss" on radio. I did appreciate the questions he asked.
Sure winning will help people forget a little but I somehow doubt the wounds will ever heal in regards to the Maloofs and the fans in this one. I can admit I hated hearing Maloof say in regards to Burkle buying the team, "We will never sell." A new ownership group would be in a way wiping the slate clean. Even if the new arena is built no one will ever confuse the Maloofs with helping the process in this one now. And I know many people are having a hard time buying tickets now just for the reason they don't like having to support the Maloofs.
I also question they will actually spend money in free agency, not that it may be a bad thing. Resigning Thorton and Dalembert would be better than signing almost anyone else that is set to become a free agent at the moment. I still think that what the Maloofs will do and blame the new CBA as why they don't do more. I think the future is bright for the team without adding free agents anyhow. If Tyreke, Cousins, and Thorton all improve and have a full off-season, pre-season, and regular season together I think we could definately make some noise at least. I liked how they played at the end of the season. Not to mention what draft pick we get (why do I think we might actually get lucky in the lottery this year? NBA conspiracy?). Anyways....that is my ramblings if anyone wishes to comment.
